Couldn't an existing 3D engine be used to make an isometric-ish game. Is it not a simple thing to put the camera (viewport) in a position that accomplishes nearly the same effect as an isometric engine?

No
It does look bad, but that is the isometric view right? Plus I wouldn't have really small rooms like that.
There's an exception with NOTLD.PlopperZ said:EDIT: Are we going to run into legal problems because of that NOTLD picture? I'm just remembering that whole Dead Rising thing
I doubt it would very good at all.xnopasaranx said:Can I get a little update here? Has the game engine discussion progressed any further? I am still in favour of a quake2 port and setting it up so the view is isometric but done with nice polygons and effects.
I believe NotLD is in the public domain now through some odd series of coincidences where everyone thought it was someone else's responsibility to renew the copyright.teh_programerer said:EDIT: Are we going to run into legal problems because of that NOTLD picture?

So....does that mean we can download it legally? h34r:
Not only that, I believe you can download it, burn it & legally sell it to your heart's content.PlopperZ said:So....does that mean we can download it legally? h34r:
MediaFire is good, simple, and freeBenT said:On the document - it IS progressing, but with Mother's Day this weekend and a busy end of week, not yet ready for public consumption. Does anyone have a website on which it can be stored & downloaded from? While I know there is RapidShare & the like, I tend to avoid them wherever possible.
