I've just finished playing the World of Warcraft european beta. I have been glued to the PC every spare minute of the day and have even had to fight my Girlfriend for access to my own PC as she created a character too.

Has anyone else with a GP32 played it? The retail release is Firday 11th. I am totally hooked on the game and will certainly be buying it on release day.

The world has an immersion level beyond anything I have ever played before. Part of this is due to the seamless loading. ie you can walk about for hours and not see a loading screen. The downside of this system is it's very RAM hungry. Altough it will run in 256mb you have to lower the GFX settings or it chuggs along in busy areas. 512mb is recommended but I bought an extra 512 mb for £54 to give me a total of a gig RAM so that the game is totally lag free all the time even with higher GFX settings.

Awesome game if you haven't tried the beta. (there were 400,000 european players at end of public beta) then I recomend buying the full game ,you won't be dissapointed.

Graphics are superb especially the water which just has to be seen to be believed and the sounds are cool too.

Check out some nice screen shots here.

EDIT:

Ooops meant this to go in off topic. Please move

The 400k people were across lots of servers. TBH there were times when I'd not see another player for several minutes at a time due to the immense size of the world. That was quite eerie actually, especially when many other places are quite busy.

I didnt like it to much
Its been out here for a bit now, and I dont think its that good

Its just.... not there.... i dont know, but something just wasnt there, a lot of something

Have you played it very much. I found the more I played it the better it got. I also experimented with three different characters to see which I liked best. A warrior, a mage and a priest. Believe it or not I played the priest more than the others.

Also what level did you reach. I found the higher you went the more the game opened out and the more there was to do. I only reached level 22 on my highest character but even by then I had journeyed all over the place.

I think Blizzard have more or less got it right with WoW. The fact they sold more copies on US release day than any other game says a lot about the game. It's gone on to sell 600,000 copies.

Obviously not everyone is going to like it but if you like RPGs at all then I think you owe it to yourselves to at least try it and even if RPGs aren't your thing you should have a look at it.

These are the charges from the Blizzard press release:-

After the initial free one-month subscription ends, players of World of Warcraft will be able to continue playing under one of three different subscription plans. The basic month-to-month subscription plan costs 12.99€ per month (£8.99 in the UK), while the three-month plan costs 11.99€ per month (£8.39 in the UK), and the six-month plan costs 10.99€ per month (£7.69 in the UK). World of Warcraft subscription fees can be paid with all major credit cards, many local cards, direct debit (such as ELV in Germany) and pre-paid game cards, the latter of which will be available in retail outlets where World of Warcraft is sold.

More content is added so the game constantly evolves and expands.

Besides let's put it this way. If I play it as much in the retail version as I have the beta it will probably be more or less the only game I'll play for the next few months so I see it as good value for money.

Edit: To give you an idea of the scope of the game:

I played the beta for several weeks and spent more time on it than Doom3 and Halflife 2 combined and I completed them both. I have probably seen about 10% of the games areas at most and about 5% of the content.

The game is simply huge. This Cartography site might give you some idea as to just how huge.

I have been following it for a while and would love to play it, but even as a uni student I'd find it to be too much of a timesink. I like playing lots of different games, and I need to go to lectures, and I think a game like that would take up way too much of my time.

Trust me. I am so glad games like this weren't around when I was a student. I find it bad enough having to log off for half an hour to log in to work and reboot the servers or whatever.

Me... addicted? Whatever gave you that idea ;)

On realm 4 there was an attack on Stormwind by dreadlords and a level 500+++ massive infernal. However they were killed at the gates by literally hundreds of players. I was at work but a friend played and has the screenshots to prove it. There were dead bodies and skeletons all over the place. He reckons the infernal would never have died except it ran out of mana.

Nothing else happended on realm 4. Iron Forge was untouched as were the Horde lands AFAIK.

When the shutdown came we were all running about looking for some kind of cataclysmic ending. All we got was server shutting in 30 seconds :(

Roll on the 11th I can't wait. :)

Could you get the pictures and post them? The one Vimacs put up was cool.

I think I'll join you guys, but a bit later than release date.

I've got some screenies at work that my mate sent me to taunt me because I was at work while everything was happening hehe. They Include one of the Massive Infernal with no mana left and very little health although there is no shot of it dead. I'll try to get some "dead" shots off him. The funny thing is it looks like the Stormwind Guard NPCs were running away in some of the shots but apparently they weren't.
I'll post them if I get time today.

EDIT typo.
