Hey, I just received information from playasia that a wiz power adapter is available. However I can not find this item in the accesoires section of the official wiz page.

also, look in this existing topic: http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?/topic/48073-ac-adapter-for-gp2x-wiz/

That topic is about unoficial power adapters. There is now a GPH adapter.

All you'd really need is one of those power -> USB adaptors that people use to charge things like their ipods, and the USB cable that comes with the Wiz. I think the little generic usb power dealies might run you $9 at a drugstore or Wal Mart... If you need something longer than the existing USB cable, use an extension cord with the adaptor. Edit: Here you go - http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/travelpower/9124/

The problem with the USB adapter is you need a PC or Laptop to be turned on for it to work.
It's not exactly an overnight solution, so an AC adapter is preferable.
The other reason I'd want an AC is I don't want to switch my USB cable around between PC and plugs, for my desk it would be a pain.

gamestop sells a car adapter that works as well. The input on it is that of a female usb port.

used it to charge my wiz when i went camping.

I meant USB cable, not USB adapter. :|
I'd still rather not use the USB cable to charge.

I don't see any other way to get power into the thing... there's just the one connector on the bottom. A cable is a cable... I mean, do what you want, but I don't see the purpose of buying anything special to power or charge the Wiz when a $9 AC adaptor and the existing cable you have will do the job.

Unfortunately by that picture there doesn't seem to be an official one for us in the States (that's the only one Play-Asia shows at least). Looks like I'll have to go the unofficial route.

To be honest that's the reason that I'm glad it didn't come with a wall charger to begin with--it's too hard to predict how many of each kind of charger to produce, which would end up with two different Wiz sets, which would probably delay everything further. Either that or they only make one charger like the one pictured and then people in other areas have to pay extra for this charger they can't use. USB on the other hand is something almost everyone has access to.

Wait, doesn't the system have a DC In like the GP2X did??
I don't have the system yet, and everyone has discussed using a DC mains.

Ah, anyway yeah I see it on Play-asia.com, it's a euro style plug though so I have no reason to use it.

I also noticed they have these new Gold and Silver Metal stickers, very nice.

yup, and on top of that, it just has a usb socket for your existing usb cable :)

Unofficial power adaptors are typically easier to obtain, configured to your country, and sometimes even cheaper.

If you don't want to use your existing usb cable, then the only adaptor I know is an unofficial adaptor: a Samsung E810 phone charger :)

Been using a standard USB power adapter (female usb socket in the adapter) and thats been good for me.
They don't cost much and you get them most places.

Somewhat related to this thread, I've been using this battery-powered charger to recharge my portable devices, including my Wiz, while on airplane trips:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290327925222

Just thought I'd mention this in case someone else was looking for the same thing. Not the seller, just a satisfied customer.

So basically if you have one of those wall socket to USB chargers, they will work with ANY device that charges via USB?

I have a T-Mobile Android G1 and that has such a charger - the wall socket section just has a female USB connection on it and you plug the USB lead in.

I guess the power output of these chargers is regulated to be exactly the same as a standard USB socket, right?

I know this all sounds obvious but naturally I want to be sure before plugging in my Wiz so I don't fry it ;)
