What's Wrong With My Math, Here?

Both Sony and Nintendo forecasted that they'll sell around 6 million DSs/PSPs in Japan this fiscal year. With the sales number from Japan for the past few months, it goes like:

[the week of June 12 - 18]
DS Lite - 141,487 [2,329,621] units
PSP - 24,653 [870,267] units
NDS - 22,748 [915,404] units

DSs: 150,000x52 ~ 7.8 millions
PSP: 25,000x52 ~ 1.3 millions

Where did my math go wrong?

What's wrong with your math is that you are basing your hypothesis on one week's sales records, rather than taking a number of weeks and finding the average or "mean" numbers sold in a week and multiplying that. Blaise Pascal, the mathmetician, called this the "law of large numbers" What if the PSP sold way more next week? Your figures would change drastically.

sony always announced the shipped numbers (to retailers) while nintendo announces the sold through numbers.

for the love of all that is good and holy

the psp is kicking the ds's arse all over the world outside of japan.

get an idea of what you're trying to refer to before you go spouting off utter crap

fucking moron

Just becuse its kiking ass doesnt mean its better
the psp is generally a better machine, but it sucks because of lack of decent games, controls are quirky on many games
and 1gb of memory costs more than 50£ in GB compared to 12£ normal 1gb SD cards
To be honest sony wouldnt make that many more sales if it brought out a sony lite, cos if you think about it, you cant make it any smaller if you dont shrink the screen.
Sony could mayby make it lighter and re-adjust the button layout - but to be honest the psp has a good look nd feeling
Also now nintendo is al wi-fi and play your friends online, its stilla dream for psp owners

[sarcasm]I have a handheld that's way better than a DS, a PSP, and a GP2X combined.

It starts with a p and ends in enis.[/sarcasm]

Seriously guys, it's just consoles... why are you arguing about this again?

I think we're only questioning the intentions and the information and the conclusion of the original poster.

I'm not a PSP or DS fan, but still, he shouldn't make assumptions based on a small bit of information.

You're all being a bunch of fucking fanboys.

You play with your toys and I will play with mine. If you happen to get enjoyment from one over then other, then that in no way affects my ability to enjoy mine.

Jesus. I don't understand these things. I have a DS and my buddy has a PSP. Neither is better. They're different. They were made to do the same but different things.

Except the figure didn't vary much in favor of PSP side, and it's been around that example numbers since last December... Anyway, I love my RPGs on PS2 (don't you remember my thread, "my PS2 is broken, what should I do?" ). If you think I was bashing Sony, you're wrong, man. If so, why would I buy a PS3 and a PS2 again 5 months before PS3 launch? :p
