What Are Your Top 5 Gp32 Mame Games?

Dunno about you guys, but playing emus on GP32 is far better than playing them on a PC. I should just go into my basement and fire up Galaga, but I'm too lazy :p

Yep, me too. I barely touch MacMame anymore. You just can't beat that fast easy start-up and portability. I must cram in the vast majority of my sessions when I have a 5-10 minute period of nothing going on.

I agree speed and sound is a big factor. You can play a lot of the same sames on MSX and other emulators at full speed etc. I would like to see improvement in having games run at full speed and sound as in Colo and other emulators. Not saying its easy but would be nice. If that and save states would be added then GPMAME would rock!!! I am sure GPMAME will get there some day...

Savestates in arcadegames? Ack!
You´re joking, are you? Its not as if you´d play RPG´s on it, so what do you need savestates for?

I will educate you since you are apparently ignorant.

These definitions are taken from www.dictionary.com and I chose the ones that fit in this case:

Save

3. To prevent the waste or loss of; conserve.
4. To set aside for future use; store.

State
5. Physics. The condition of a physical system with regard to phase, form, composition, or structure: Ice is the solid state of water.

Ok, so know that combine the 2. Here is it in it's basic form. you have a game like Bubble Bobble with a million levels and you would like to start at that level at a later time or you have to sue the restroom and want to pause the game just like with any other game on any other RPG on any other emulator. I hope this clears things up for you?? :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

EDIT: Fixed spelling mistakes to make a certain person happy.

Hey, Einstein ... lay off the insults, ok? Your post was far too riddled with typos and grammatical errors for you to be allowed to call someone else ignorant.

Edit: See ... I forgot a letter, so I fixed it

My post was not to insult any one and I am sorry if you took it that way. I can tell you are not on the same conscious level as me which is fine, you soon will find your own path.

To me the lack of sound is the biggest factor for me not playing many of my favorites. I know that many of these used samples but this port doesn't support samples :(

Games like Zaxxon, DK, DK jr, Berzerk, PepperII, Phoenix, Space invaders, Galaxian, and many more have no sound or incomplete sound.

I would much rather have sound in these games than save states. When I played these games in the arcade I couldn't save either.

We can have both it's not like he said sound or save states and that is one of the best things about emulators over playing the games on the real console is save states are very cool!! Am I the only one to use save states?????????????????

MAME doesnt have save states so no way will the GP32 version of MAME get them.

The only thing you can do on a lot of the games is keep chucking in 'coins' and continue but some of them you have to start again.

But yeah its a pity on the PC version either you cant save games, then again i think thats one reason why i play MAME games much more, if i could save it and after 3 days complete it i wont ever play that game again.

Speed to me is #1 , i know Dave mentions sound issues in a lot of emulators but i would rather play a game 100% speed without sound than 85% with sound. Obviously i would love sound but to me i love the playability of these games, back in the day in a lot of arcades i used to go to you couldnt fully appreciate the sound anyway.

But save states i cant see happening for a very very long time. If you said a year ago we would have a great MAME version running many games though you would say 'yep i'll take it'.

Dont agree with Fishbongs comment though, a lot of games where you cant continue it would be nice to save (but like i said earlier i probably wouldnt play them again once i completed them) so i do actually agree with Tattooman.
Save states are cool but i think for MAME its much more difficult than it would be for any other console/computer to emulate. Even the original MAME series on the PC doesnt have save states at all

You sure  ? I don´t have played with gpmame for a week or so, but i think i had it running...

EDIT: Hmm, it´s not in my GP MAME romset, but in my PalmMAME one... so this must have been on the Zodiac, then...

If you love MAME the next thing to do is to get a MAME cabinet built, because of space i got a bartop one built for me....

http://www.fwl.org.uk/arcade.gif

Has real arcade buttons/joystick, obviously just an old PC stuck in the box running MAME. The missus isnt happy with it in the basement but i love it !

I'll dip my toes in the savestate waters...
To me, old arcade games are all about difficulty. These games were never designed to be played for long periods. Back then, if a few of us got good on a particular machine (and by good I mean making a credit last more than 25 minutes) you could just about guarantee the operator would crank it up a notch before long. A save state seems kind of heretical. And to honest, if I got 20 levels into your typical early 80's arcade game and then saved the state I'd also have to save the state my brain was in at the time. 'Cause there's not way I could pick up where I'd left off, I'd lose all my men inside 60 seconds.
They just don't make 'em like that any more.
(Shuffles off muttering about kids these days)

I'll second this. I normally love save states. I hate PC games like "Brothers In Arms" that don't use save states. But when it comes to MAME, introducing save states would spoil that retro feel. We never had save states in the Arcade and we don't need 'em now..

I agree - savestates do go against the grain a bit with arcade games, however, I do think save states are useful in that they can allow you to experience more of the game than you might normally be able to. How far can you get in Ghosts and Goblins in a normal session? I managed to get all the way through using save states, and it was well worth it...
