What are you playing this weekend/these days?

Did not post much the last few weeks, so its time for another Post:

I know i should play the Game more likely on the Original Hardware, as i have the New2DSXL also in reach, but playing on the Anbernic RG Cube got the Advantage that you have also an Streaming Audio Player on Multitasking whit Youtube Music....

Fantasy Life (3DS Game on Citra Emulator)
My plan is as last time on the Original Hardware to make an Muilti Job Charakter, played now for about 10 Hours, i have Paladin, Mage, Miner, and Mercenary , at the Adept Job Level, did make the second Main Quest and did change my Job (Life) to Smith as i hope i can make myself this way a lot better gear ..
Quite Adicting Game, i like it ^^
On Emulation: Its runs the most time fine, but yesterday evening, its did cause some slowdowns for the Youtube Music while i had played it bevore whit simultane Musik Streaming where it did run fine..

Last night I used my old SNES controllers for MiSTER pi using SNAC, the low latency add-on that came bundled. I played SF2HF with my old Fight Stick SN and got to Ryu without being beaten. I got to Venom, the last level of Star Fox, effortlessly using an Asciipad turbo controller (then died). I seemed to be able to aim and dodge better. I also played Mario Kart 64 using my DS4 wired and it was amazingly fast and fun compared to Wii VC and emulation (mainly due to the fpga's cycle correctness). I'm kindof a latency junky, both in terms of my professional programming, realtime audio software and controllers too it seems. I have been a bit turned off by BT for a long time, especially playing Tetris and Mario I can totally tell the difference. I try to avoid my Brook XE PS3 adapter, it adds noticeable lag and makes games more difficult.

Do you guys nerd out on controller latency too?

I want to do my own tests buy my gopro hero4 can only do 240 fps, which means a resolution of 4ms. Maybe there's a way to get more granular measurements if I combine many results.

Incidentally I do own the lowest latency USB controller, the iBuffalo Classic SNES. I just picked it up randomly when I started gaming again in 2016. I'm concerned that soon I won't want to game using USB anymore, just SNACs. The ultimate test will be my scores. Maybe I'll play 100 games of Tetris with different controllers to find out if ultra-low latency really matters.

Goshdarnit alright I'll buy one :p

While I can't talk about latency for controllers, I recently picked up a DS8 pro stretchy-style gamepad and I love its hall effect analogue sticks. The movement range is good and the action is just so smooth - you don't feel any mechanical interaction except the force of the spring returning the stick to center position. A world of difference to my 8bitdo pro 2 which aged very quickly. I even played through a bunch of PC FPS with either minimal or no aim assist and it felt great. Took me weeks to find how to turn of RGB because it shipped with the manual of some prior version of the controller. Made a world of difference too in terms of battery life. And the distraction of color cycling lights right next to the screen is significant. RGB lighting in battery-powered peripherals is asinine.

Yes! You wont' regret it.

I'm leaning towards HORI wired controllers and selling my 8bitdo ultimate due incompatibility with everything: Linux, MiSTER and PS3. Maybe it's buggy.

Played Panzer Dragoon / Saturn / MiSTER Pi with a Hori Fighting Commander USB controller. First time I actually played this game but I always like the graphics since I saw it at my friends house when it came out. Great experience. I love rail shooters.

been a couple of updates on steam so i indulged in 3 or 4 hours pf House Flipper. i made a very stylish sauna i think... turned a parking lot into a playground... all low key stress free fun

Cause i had allready too much Fantasy Life (3DS) since New Years Eve i did decide to come back to the Game later and did start yesterday whit

GTA Liberty City Stories (PSP) on Anbernic RG Cube PPSSPP

Plays quite fine, i have also the PSP Original, but i think back then i did put an Savegame from the Internet on the Memorystick to have it 100 %.. , also at some point it was too difficult to continue ..
So i did play a few Missions, had to deal with too much cheats which let the Emulator Crash a few times.. .
Its like it was made for playing on an Handheld, too bad Rockstar never made an PSVITA GTA..

After I bought a Flydigi Vader 4 Pro controller, I picked up Borderlands 2 again on Switch, which I had left alone in frustration years ago with Zer0 at lvl 17, Gaige at lvl11, and Maya at some lvl inbetween. I can play it now, hey. But it's not just the better analog sticks, which are precise and rather frictionless. It's also the additional buttons on the bottom side, which I setup to mirror the buttons for crouch, run, melee attack, and jump. Aiming is still hampered, but less so and now not also because of the controller. The Switch software or probably rather the game deadzones the controller values, i.e. the controller, that reports the slightest off-center position and centers very well, I can configure however I want, the game will never effectively process very small values. Which is still very frustrating. And not configurable! It's an FPS game, dammit!
But it's playable for me, now. So, yeah!

And no, I'm not trying to make advertisement for that particular controller. I'm not one of those who bought all the models that claim to use better tech. I have now bought one and I found controllers matter and the first party ones have still (verifiably significant) room for improvement. With that Vader 4 Pro I do not like that the configuration sw is Windows only and that, while it does store Switch profiles on the controller, the Switch profiles are less detailed and the PC profiles seem to be handled by a service that needs to run on the (Windows) PC. Bad Flydigi, bad!
