But, Not everyone will have an internet connection when they need it, And some won`t have access to public wireless access points, Either because they don`t have a contract (too young etc), There isn`t any available in the area they are in (Crap uk coverage being a case in point) or just a crap signal in their current location (because of walls etc).

Those of us with amateur radio licenses and our own packet-to-Internet gateways will remain happy, though. B)

As mentioned by others, I'd love a PDF reader that meant I could read my PDFs as easily as I can currently read txt-based eBooks ie readable when set to "Fit to Width" so I don't have to scroll left and right each sentence, and I can just hit the right shoulder button (R1?) to page down as required.

That would so be teh sex0r.

Given that the Pandora can store up to 32GB, I'm considering putting quite a bit of music on it. An mp3 player with a decent media library interface would go a long way there.

Some kind of internet browser (hopefully with flash support). Youtube/Veoh would be awesome (I hope it's possible).

aMule/eMule so that I don't have to leave my power hungry dinosaur on all day just to download a few videos or some games (I'm not sure what kind of wear this would put on the SD though).

UnRAR so that I can extract the files that I download with aMule.

BIRT so that I can bulk resize images to my desire.

Timidity++ might be cool, I like listening to cracker/keygen themes and old game music when I get extremely bored (don't laugh, the original XP soundfont sounds fine, and it's only 4MB. I don't need Airfont or any of those other 400MB beasts).

Some kind of pixel art program (I really want to be able to do this with a touchscreen instead of a mouse).

That's about it, there are probably hundreds of other things I will think of later, but this is just off the top of my head.

I have a Nokia N800 .. a touch based media player called Canola for the N800 is absolutely awesome. Canola isnt open source but most of its components are. Perhaps we can build something similar.

You know, there are Linux-based NAS cabinets that will do P2P (mainly BitTorrent). Mind you, they are quite expensive. Possibly a Slug (Linksys NSLU2) could do it too with the proper software.

If memory serves, the source code for Personal Paint is available. Possibly an agreement for releasing a port could be arranged with Cloanto by some ambitious dev. I don't know much programming myself, but my impression is that it'd probably be difficult porting 68k/PowerPC code (which I'm guessing is to a large extent assembly code) to the ARM, though, but would give the most DPaint-like experience available today (save for actually running DPaint in an emulator).

I'd like to see

Firefox
Some sort of AIM client
a multi-console emulator like LJZ/LJP for Zodiac/s(nes,snes,gba,psx,genesis ect)
some sort of text program like ms word
a music program like fruity loops
some sort of graphics programs
a media player with the ability to add plugins (say you have a movie that isnt supported or whatever)
and a finger print identifier just for the lulz

Idea, how about a program for tapping into the PS3 to stream media, maybe with bluetooth under the ps3 game/OS using remote play, or more likely under ps3 linux by wifi.

I'd love to see Andriod bootable by a boot switch at startup.

It would be great if Pandora was the first to be bundeled with Andriod, and it could be released with the product at the launch, or even prelaunch of andriod. I know that devs are working on making 3430 work with Andriod right now. It would certainly bring a lot of customers to the Pandora, seeking the ultimate Andriod hardware.

  • PIM software (calendar, contacts, appointments etc)
Integrated with the RTC so it can wake on scheduled events
    (I need alarms for everything)
  • Web browser
  • Email client
  • PDF reader
  • Code/text editor with syntax highlighting
  • Basic paint program / graphics editor
  • Port of PSP LuaPlayer (or equivalent scripting environment)
LuaPlayer provides functions for easy access to the graphics & audio hardware (not a standard part of Lua)
Closely mirroring the PSP Lua functions would make porting a lot of existing homebrew trivial
  • Simple word processor
  • PictoChat clone -- would be awesome if it could also be compatible with DS, but I don't know if that's possible
