Weekly Pyra Preorder Stats

i'm not sure ED has had time to do anything like clearing out old preorders... (but perhaps the man himself can account for his whereabouts!!! jk, mostly.)

Almost a full recovery since last week! Mostly standard, non-cellular units this time around: one Tuesday morning, one Wednesday morning, one Wednesday evening, and one Thursday afternoon. The Wednesday evening one was even 2GB version, with the others being standard 4GB versions. We even got a pre-order for a 4GB EU version on Sunday afternoon.

The preorders were split as follows:
Non-cellular units: +2 4GB, +1 2GB units
US cellular units: no change
Euro cellular units: +1 4GB unit

It's unusual to get so many pre-orders for non-cellular units in a week. It's too early to base anything on this one week's results, but it's noteworthy nevertheless. This make-up of units doesn't correspond very well to those we lost last week, but whoever made them it helps get us back to where we were two weeks ago at the very least. In fact, as I'm writing this late, I can already see another order that came in which gets us exactly back, that came in on Sunday night, and there's still plenty of the week left to put us even further forward.

So 11 months have gone by, wow time has flown.

I wonder how many pre-orders there will be in a months time ie the anniversary of pre-orders commencing

I reckon it all depends on how much promotable news or material comes out. It surprises me going through the old press pack how close everything seemed then, which booting units, photographically complete cases and so on. I know that to create and edit videos takes time, and that's not something ED has at the moment, but I don't see more than a dozen or so preorders over the next month unless something broadcast-worthy comes out. I've not been in contact with my friends recently about the Pyra because there's not been anything to show to indicate progress other than words, and we all know how many words a picture is worth.

A new video would be good to keep momentum going

On a different note. I wonder if all the new competition both present and in the works is a good or bad thing for the Pyra.

They are certainly putting UMPCs back in the spot light, so hopefully that increases the market so everyone benefits. Otherwise, if that's not the case, then the others will be taking their small percentages from the pool of prospective UMPC purchasers

I think I'm leaning towards them increasing the market, I guess we will see.

Good question. I reckon initially it'll have a detrimental influence on pre-orders. Back when the Pandora came around it was pretty much the only way to play emulated games on the move, and even after the iphone and andorid came about it was still the only way to play Amiga games. You can now do a lot of that stuff in a Windows handheld, and in a way that's probably less exotic to people used to setting up WinUAE.

I think though that once the system is up and running people will see the quality and depth of the software offering thanks to our superb porting and hacking team. Really, if new CPU boards ever come out that'll enable us to be a lot closer to the curve, as ED won't have to develop a whole unit before releasing them.

As you say though, increasing the market, and making it easier to explain what a Pyra actually is will help.

I dunno really, but I suspect that given the thousand pre-orders we have already, it'll easily make what the Pandora did, and enable ED to pay back his investors and make a bit of a profit.

Yeah I think he only needed 3000 sales to pay off investors. Although that was said some time ago now, interest may have accrued to make that figure a little bigger.

i dislike non-pyra preorderers
You dislike anyone who pre orders anything that isn't a Pyra?

You dislike anyone that pre orders anything who themselves aren't a Pyra?

... thinking along these lines... It may have been a Pyra pre ordering itself Two Months before it existed to do so that led to the collapse (klapse) of the Two Month singularity and Opened Pandora's Box in the first place.

It's not too late - it's week 48!

To drag this thread back on topic, we've had two pre-orders since last week. Something of a case of two steps forward, one step back in all reality though; a standard 4GB pre-order was made on Sunday night, then an EU 4GB one on Tuesday evening, and nine hours later one was cancelled, and finally a standard 4GB unit was pre-ordered on Wednesday night.

The preorders were split as follows:
Non-cellular units: +2 4GB units
US cellular units: no change
Euro cellular units: no change (+1-1 4GB unit)

That marks two weeks where we've had mostly non-cellular orders. Perhaps that's not too surprising though - the excitement of people first hearing about this has mostly died down, and most people have phones that they're not looking to replace. They'll lose GPS functionality and perhaps others (I forget if the accelerometers are on that chip) which is the main reason I ordered a cellular unit personally, with only the possibility of being able to stop using my old phone somewhere down the line.

Some of us are waiting because we have a credit at ithic.com due to the iControlpad thingy and will have to buy directly from there as opposed to pre-order. I'm one, but I don't know how many others fall into that bucket.

Yeah I'm hoping the pyra can combine my 3 goto devices: Phone (Just for calling and SMS, browsing on the go), W10 Tablet (so I don't have to use my phone for internet, since it ACTUALLY has physical buttons + Doom), and PSP for portable gaming on long trips or when I'm out.
It would be a sweet all in one device!
So it has a lot of excitement for me but it's a pretty obscure device afaik. Perhaps when the current preorderers get theirs and make videos on YouTube etc it can get a lot of attention.

So 11 months have gone by, wow time has flown.
My phone that I have so lovingly cared for over the last 5 years of abuse and multiple drops onto concrete has finally developed a crack in the screen. They Pyra needs to arrive soon so I can replace it.

Make one mine - it's week 49!

A busier week than I'd first thought ;) First there was a preorder made of a 4GB EU version and a 4GB standard one made on Monday evening. Then a gap until Thursday night in the US, when a 4GB one of those was preordered, and on Friday afternoon another EU 4GB unit was preordered, putting us at the highest total of that week; fifteen minutes later two EU 4GB units were cancelled, than a couple of hours after that two 4GB standard units were refunded. On Saturday afternoon one standard and then one EU 4GB preorders were taken.

As above, the preorders were split as follows:
Non-cellular units: no change (+2-2 4GB units)
US cellular units: +1 4GB unit
Euro cellular units: +1 4GB unit (+3-2 4GB units)

That's more like it! Another week of the fore and back, so at least cancellations are getting processed quickly, and we don't end up with another glut like we had three weeks back now. There's no way to say if it's the same people cancelling who then re-order, or people who ordered months ago now getting cold feet, but there's no great indicators of people upgrading, or going cheap on us.

I wasn't double checking it, I check it for myself every week to let the IRC channel know right after midnight.

Finally, a week that really had no cancellations! The first of the EU 4GB units was pre-ordered at Sunday lunch-time. Then this weeks US 4GB unit preorder came in on Monday morning. To top the week off, two more EU 4GB units were preordered on Saturday night, just before the weekly deadline.

As above, the preorders were split as follows:
Non-cellular units: no change
US cellular units: +1 4GB unit
Euro cellular units: +3 4GB units

Possibly the first week where we only had preorders at the weekends, but we've long had slightly more preorders at the weekend than on weeknights.

@Lightkey Okay, you probably got the results earlier than I did. Thanks for correcting me either way!
