Release VCMI - A rewrite of the Heroes of Might and Magic III Engine

I have tried with the complete edition from GOG. When I run it plays constantly a "buzz" over the usual sounds, it's very annoying. The sound worked alright  running the game in a virtualized xp.

Has anyone this problem?
I never realy realized that until now...

Yeah there is this buzzing sound.

I was not able to fix this and it still persists in the newest version.

Anyone any hints on this?

Also commented in on the repo. I wanted to give this another shot to get it working. When I try to download the latest version form the repo the download does not start. Other things from the repo still work.

EDIT: hmm ok managed to download it in the office. Must have been a temporary hickup.

I was able to run this but after the two last updates it refuses to start. In the .out there is clearly an error but I have no idea what it means:

It complains about campaign movies and music. I copied the folder from the gog version. What are those files? Where should they be?

I have no idea what the other two errors mean, I could use some help here.

yay! mine works now. The error described way back in this thread(black flashing as if initializing) I managed to fix. My problem was putting the game folder in .vcmi as instructed however it requires you to put the conted of the game folder in there. Copying the whole "Heroes of might and magic 3 complete" folder is wrong. Might be a good clarification for the repo.

Pitty the music buzzes but I am sure that will be fixed at some point.

Have a 12 hour drive coming up at the end of this week. No guesses needed on what I will be doing when not behind the wheel! B)

@asimov

My first instinct is that you should make sure to clear all data and reinstall fully. Make sure that you don't just slam in a new .pnd.

I solved the music buzz bug (mostly).

I converted all mp3 files in the mp3 folder to ogg and the buzzing is no more!

Unfortunately the intro file must be located elsewhere as it still buzzes at the main menu, for the rest of the game though it is buzz free (only tested 5 mins play so far).

Awesome find David, i fixed my problem and a small addition from my side: the menu music is in .vcmi/mods/WoG/mp3/mainmenuwog.mp3

When I run the PND for the first time it says:

No initial free VCMI data files found!!! The free VCMI data files will now be copied to [appdata]/vcmi.yeoldegrove/.vcmi. Please wait for the confirmation!

I get confirmation and the folder is made but there are no files in there. When I copy the HOMMIII files in there and launch the PND again nothing happens. No errors either. EDIT scratch that, the screen goes black for a second so something does happen, just not a lot  :)

Anyone else run into this problem?

Where are you leaving the files exactly?

They must be inside appdata/vcmiyeoldegrove/.vcmi

Notice that .vcmi is a hidden folder you must enable "Show hidden file" in the file browser to view it.

That was exactly the problem, had them in the vcmiyeoldegrove folder and the vcmi one was hidden. Works like a charm now, only need to drop the ogg files in to stop the humming.

Thanks so much! If you ever end up in Amsterdam send me a pm and I'll buy you a beer.

On the other hand seeing as this is my favorite game ever and easily the best one in the serie this probably means bankruptcy, divorce, enstrangement of my children and the end of my study. So that would mean you have to pay for the beer then but I'd be just as grateful.

You're welcome.

Slowness is normal, It improves running it at 1200Mhz but it's still not the same as running in a computer.

By the way I take you word on that beer, my parents lived in Hengelo before I was born, I used to have relatives there and I love grolsch beer, isn't easy to find here in spain, I even have got a cup made out of a grolsch bottle.

I think fate has put as together then. I own a bar in Amsterdam and Grolsch is my house brand for lager. :)
