U. S. 2008 Election Thread

From the article I quoted - Palin is a creationist and Obama and McCain are 'on the fence' <_<
Neither want's to stand on either side and lose votes
Not a clue where they or Obama's veep actually stand
(But I'm sure that someone will enlighten me)

Creationists believe that evolution is a disprovable theory because they can't see it happening experimentally and think that a scientist's open mind to being wrong is a failing of the science where their closed mind view is the source of them being right, because they can't see a full and proper scientific explanation.
[Ask any scientist if they are 100% sure and they have to say 'no']

That is why creationists want it taught along-side evolution in science class. They want equality at a scientific level because proper scientific process has to allow their theory.

Creationists are an electorally powerful group that can make a candidate appear weaker by losing votes in some states, thus affecting the voting in other states, so candidates have to appease them.
Scientists, on the other hand, aren't.
Well any candidate for president has to be a Christian in the US or they wouldn't stand a chance. It shouldn't be like that but it is. It should be about issues and who has competence to run the country.

Actually you CAN see evolution happening experimentally. They run experiments using bacteria all of the time (because they reproduce fast and in great numbers) and it 100% shows evolution unfolding right in front of you (that is why flu germs become resistant to drugs). That is what a "strain" is. That is in real time. Then you have all of the historical evidence like fossils etc.

Creationists want creationism taught in schools because they want to further their agenda, which is to convert everyone to their belief. They want it taught along side science because science is a reality and they want to legitimize their belief. The big problem with that is the one fact: Creationism is not science it is a belief, period.

You know that, I know that. Creationists tend to believe they can't, because they want to see a whole new species. Their best question is 'Did a non-human give birth to a human?'

My answer is 'Are you exactly the same as your parents, or are you slightly different?' but they usually take that as an insult to either themselves or their parents <_<

This conversation reminds me of the book/movie Contact when the international committee to choose the first traveler to use the machine interviewed the candidates not just on their technical qualifications but also how much their views represented the majority of the planet. After all, the traveler would also be the first ambassador.

This is why as much as I would like to see an atheist or someone whose spiritual life follows no organized religious group be in office, I don't think it should happen. Any leader of a country this large has to not just understand the views of the masses but should represent them as well. As much as the candidates like to talk about experience in this or that, this isn't a job interview like other jobs. The job isn't just doing, it's representing.

Don't waste your vote on tweedle de or tweedle dumb.

Vote for a real candidate. Third parties deserve a chance to debate and get media coverage.

http://www.thirdpartyticket.com

Sign the petition if you believe in the following!
1.) A large number of people do not want a McCain or Obama presidency - collectively we are a political force, 2.) All four of his suggested third party candidates have 4 positions in common:

* bring the U.S. troops home
* protect our civil liberties
* investigate the Federal Reserve
* balance the federal budget

3.) the two party system is corrupt, limits the choices of the American people and must come to an end..

I admire those who vote for third parties. They are utilising the democratic system as it was supposed to be utilised; to be a means for the people to effect change. Democrat, Republican, Republican, Democrat - not a lot changes. With a third party candidate, there is at least that opportunity. Realistically, of course, they will never get into office - most democratic systems are broken in that regard - but voting for somebody just to keep the other guy out is not what the Founding Fathers whom you Americans adore so much had envisaged. Vote for the candidate you want to win, and be proud of it.

(Plus, when the other guy screws up, you can always say "Eh, I didn't vote for him!")

3rd party stands no chance. They RUIN elections, and RUIN this nation. You're the cause of our woes.

The problem with libertarians, especially that nut job Ron Paul, is that they believe in no or very limited government. These guys support deregulation on steroids. Deregulate everything, and privitize everything.

It is this laissez faire approach that has caused the current financial collapse. To many regulations were lifted.

Libertarian candidates also can only play the spoilers (Thanks to NADER we got 8 disasterous years of GWB). Even if somehow the eeked out a win (impossible) it would be a disaster even worse than we have now. Imagine everyone for himself with no regulations. The elite class would rule, everyone else would be in absolute poverty.

It would be wonderful if a third-party candidate had any chance of winning, ever. As it is, that's never going to happen.

(Note: the Whigs, Federalists, and Democratic Republicans don't count as third parties)

This debate was fucking hilarious. McCain is so old and senile that it's amusing.

Things McCain discussed:
  1. "Cronyism" is bad. This was mentioned at least 3 times. Add this to last debate's total mentions, and "Cronyism" is easily his favorite term.
  2. Obama and his overhead projector = bad
  3. He will "reach across the aisle and negotiate with Joe lieberman and Russ Feingold". One of McCain's all-time favorite statements.
  4. THAT ONE!!
Keep digging that hole, old man.

He's happy to and can't believe he got through it without dropping the n-word. He did not seem to raise much of a defense, thought the pattern was obama defends whatever mccain said and disses mccain, mccain disses obama, repeat. He strings his sound bites together much better than palin, she could have learned something tonight. Watched it on current with twitter running across the bottom, only way to enjoy it.

I actually think Obama is becoming more of a gentleman than McCain now. It seems more and more that Obama keeps insults and finger pointing to a minimum. He actually did that tonight, while McCain pretty much DIDN'T answer the questions, but instead kept saying how bad Obama is.

And ffs, all McCain does is reference war. Get the fuck over it already.

Barack Obama is a Marxist demagogue. Don't believe me? Go read either of his autobiographies. He advocates Socialism across the board, massive wealth redistribution, and a pacifist, reserved foreign policy that constantly consults the EU, a useless, post-Cold War NATO, and my personal favorite acronymed do-nothing organization, the UN. If you believe in this kinda shit, that's great, but there's plenty of countries that are already enslaved by their notions of "equality" over liberty and the contrived, immature notion that "war is evil". This massive federal government expansion and Socialized onset happens in a lotta places, but to shred the Constitution and disavow Federalism and every principle that this nation was founded on is sickening. In short, this should happen in Europe, it shouldn't happen in America.

This is all I'll say here, as I'll get far too outraged and end up making most of you reveal just how little you truly know about politics. John McCain is no Conservative, but he's the lesser of two evils. I just wish the majority of Americans could vote objectively, disregarding age, melanin, articulation, and "gentlemanness" and look at substance. In a community such as this, filled with pretentious college grads and foreigners, I expect no support for my sound ideology and only hope that there will be, at some point in my lifetime, a place on this earth that still holds the values of Liberty, Justice, sanity, and objectivity, because radical Leftism and Liberal Fascists (which is by no means an oxymoron if you're well-versed in each definition and the history thereof) have hijacked my once great country. Bye.

Barack Obama is a Marxist demagogue.
Marxism is a-ok. although, really, to say hes a marxist is pretty ignorant of marxism.

reserved foreign policy that constantly consults the EU, a useless, post-Cold War NATO, and my personal favorite acronymed do-nothing organization, the UN
As much as I hate the UN, you can't go around doing your own shit. This is a country, not the playground, there's no room for a lone wolf. (a 'maverick')

Ff you believe in this kinda shit, that's great, but there's plenty of countries that are already enslaved by their notions of "equality" over liberty and the contrived, immature notion that "war is evil".
Equality = liberty. if at a base level you aren't equal, then you don't have true liberty. also, war isn't evil, but it should be avoid at all costs. war as a theory or as a concept isn't evil, but 90 percent of wars have been.

This massive federal government expansion and Socialized onset happens in a lotta places, but to shred the Constitution and disavow Federalism and every principle that this nation was founded on is sickening.
People act like the goddamned constitution is some solid document. No, it's not, and it's obsolete. It isn't perfect and never was, that's why there were these little things called amendments. second, federalism sucks, whats 'sickening' about changing a nation for the better?

This is all I'll say here, as I'll get far too outraged and end up making most of you reveal just how little you truly know about politics. John McCain is no Conservative, but he's the lesser of two evils.
John McCain chose to enter the realm of partisan politics. Also, nice ad hominem there. (especially considering the rest of the post) guess I'll join in too, you batshit insane aspie!

I just wish the majority of Americans could vote objectively, disregarding age, melanin, articulation, and "gentlemanness" and look at substance.
I KNOW, same here, isn't that funny!

in a community such as this, filled with pretentious college grads and foreigners
so, are you now waging a xenophobic war against foreigners and scholars?

I expect no support for my sound ideology
you can't support something that isn't there

and only hope that there will be, at some point in my lifetime, a place on this earth that still holds the values of Liberty, Justice, sanity, and objectivity,
there never will be until humans stop being coy shitheads...

, because radical Leftism and Liberal Fascists (which is by no means an oxymoron if you're well-versed in each definition and the history thereof) have hijacked my once great country. Bye.
It is possible to sway either way and be a facist, of course. However, the modern republicans and conservative party including mccain & palin are draconian assholes who would have no trouble silencing any objectors, by force or by threat or by coercion.

have hijacked my once great country. Bye.
It isn't your country. it's the majorities vote, and guess what? the majority is going to vote liberal. this country was not "once great", it's always had its ups and downs. A single political ideology for a brief period of time that really doesn't have much effect on anything other than public relations isn't going to ruin the status of a country.

man, I wasted alot of time, but I guess thats what I get for debating a wii fanboy who gets his politics from fox news and his freshman history teacher.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Erm, I was merely referring to this debate. Would you like it if I called it "poise"? I will. Happy? I'm sorry that you support a candidate who beats around questions in order to point the finger at the other guy. I vote Obama because HE'S the lesser of the two evils. Oh, and I'm sick of fighting unnecessary wars.

I do agree, many Americans are voting based on skin color, etc. But I don't want a corpse in the White House, because I don't want that imbecile Palin running my nation.

Damn, every time I think of that I send BHO another $200. "Name a newspaper?", wow what a vicious hardball grilling that was, Katie Couric putting on the brass knuckles. Now, picture that under something approaching real pressure... one long pet goat moment. John McCain's judgment should be enough to put anyone in the Obama camp besides his being such a drama queen. Call a press conference, I'm putting country first. Barack this Barack that load of crap failing fact checks, same old shit. Vote for an end to The Rove Era big enough and everyone will take the high road next time and lift this entire country's moral character several notches.

Best part of the last debate; never having to take a, "maverick", shot, winner!
