Southpark 201 Censored? Wtf?!

Well, yes I get that you wanted to debunk the whole idea of a universal truth... that isn't the thing I am looking for. Creationism shall not be discussed here.
Are you trying to censor me in a thread where you decry the evils of censorship?
I'm just bustin' your balls, as the saying goes. Just a bit of fun. ;)

This is why I am calling religion fiction, because there is nothing more to base any of the ideology on, than collections of stories.
For the longest time, it was fact that the molecule was the smallest amount of matter.
The it was discovered that molecules are made up of atoms. Atoms were definitely the smallest piece of matter, though.
Then they smashed that with a hammer and a bunch of stuff came spilling out. Protons and neutrons and electrons. Definitely can't get smaller than that, though.
Then they smashed some electrons together and even smaller stuff came spilling out. But that's definitely gotta really totally be it, right?
Oh hai higgs boson! We don't actually know if you exist yet, but we have faith! :p
Would you say the scientists who believe the atom was the smallest particle of matter back in the 18th century were idiots, believing they'd solved the problem? What about the current researchers that insist dark matter exist? What if 200 years from now, there's still no evidence that it exists? Will future generations look back and call the scientists investigating it today fools believing in fiction?

this is a problem with one religion, not all religions.
And not even with one religion, but a small subset of people that follow that religion.

Also, the world wouldn't be all rosy if there were no religions and I doubt any better, people are people and kill each other. I mean, if its not a religion telling you to do something it's government, it's society, it's the guy that is a charismatic speaker. There would be just as much screwed up things happing in a world without religion, just no where to look to for comfort.
If you've ever seen a football brawl, you'd know this to be true. :D

Leaving most of the thread well alone, religeons also change. It used to be that the whole bible was "Divine FACT" (for example). Now some of it is allegorical (stories). "Women priests" used to be an oxymoron - you could no more have a woman priest than you could have a blue orange. Homosexuality has been accepted into several religeous factions that used to cry "No!" in a big way. The possibility of Alien Life, once totally denied, has now long been accepted by the Vatican.

Everything changes. What makes me smile wrily the most is that, from a certain point of view, religeons seem to have started as a way of taking the evidence one can find around us and trying to work out what's going on. Which is also a rather neat description of science. Both employ groups of people to "study" and "interpret" the data for us (google the definition of "theologian", for example). I find it interesting how very similar scientific zealots look to religeous zealots. "Ours is true, you must believe it, look at that stupid alternative that doesn't even permit for the possibility of other world views". Umm... sayign that "science is right and so MUST be taught and religeon is fiction and so must NOT be taught" plays right into creationist hands, when they can point out that science has, historically, mostly been fiction. Because most theories have been proven either inaccurate or just plain wrong at least once, and replaced or upgraded... Fiction scientists convince themselves of mostly by telling themselves some jolly good stories. "telling Stories" isn't an aspect of religeon and seperate from science, telling stories is an aspect of what makes a human, human. We live our whole lives by them - even athiests. Even agnostics! For exmaple, there's the story of the man who missed his bus, was later for work, and thereby lost his job. That's why we all pay so much in fuel costs - to avoid starring in a new edition of that story.

It's not even just a few people that follow a specific religeon that are the problem. Religeon is largely a scapegoat - it's a device, a mechanism and an excuse. In this case it's a few people who CLAIM to follow a particular version of a particular faith. Next time it will likely be a few different individuals who use a different faith as their excuse to shoot or bomb people. The time after it'll be other people. The problem isn't faith in some supposedly benevolent all-powerful being. An all-powerful being can kill anyone he/she/it likes, no need for foot soldiers. The problem is people.

Ban them from the schools, I say. It's the only way to be sure.

I can't comprehend reasonably educated people believing in any form of higher power. Also, comparing unproven scientific theories with religion is laughable.

I have a different theory for you then: we're a simulation being run on a computer. Is that laughable? I'm not the first to think of that. The computer simulation, or brain in a jar theories have come up before, and used to explain certain inconsistencies in quantum physics. Doesn't seem very laughable to me. The programmer of that computer would definitely have some level of control over the simulation. Some people, for lack of any other name, have labeled that programmer God.

QFT. I mean, it makes perfect sense: Why doesn't God help us out these days? Because he's got a few zillion other messages in his inbox and by the time he gets around to it, you're already dead. Oh, and his internet addiction probably isn't helping.

A sign of the times. I hope that maybe in 20 years we will laugh about it, but now it is just infuriating.
We're being told that terrorism is being fought against but by the looks of it, the islamists are winning pretty hard, imposing their stupid religious commandmends on us.

But i can't really blame anyone. I mean, would you go and draw a picture of Muhammed and then post it on a blackboard along with your address? Would you go into an arab coffeeshop and say: "I think your faith is based on outdated sociopolitical mechanisms, is discriminatory against women and holds back the advancement of humanity."?

I don't think so, even though it really shouldn't be a problem.

EDIT: Also i think Southpark kicks ass, though the last episode crippled summer was kinda crappy.

Yes I do realize that. That is again exactly what I wrote. Science is able to change from one paradigm to the next in a matter of days after someone has discovered something new or proven a different theory to be obsolete/false. Just because science is working with theories aswell, doesn't mean that there isn't a huge difference in reasoning and appliance. Have you ever heard of a physicist threatening to kill a christian or muslim or whatever because of the big bang theory?

Oh contraire... first, this is not a problem of the islamic belief. That is just really stupid to say. The Quran doesn't tell people to be anymore violent, obedient or to disrespect non believers than the bible. There are loads of christian fundamentalists that are equally brainwashed and dangerous. There have been decades of violent combat been carried out by christians against each other in Ireland, there have been several attempts to kill various important people and bomb various buildings by christians in the USA. This doesn't mean that every religious person is a potential violent fundamentalist. Violence is also only one aspect of fundamentalism that annoys me, more over their demand for respect and tolerance while not tolerating and respecting others. Read the Harry Potter examples. Seriously, google it to see what the pope had to say about those books. Find out what else they would like to prohibit, there is a lot.

Thanks... comparison is just not possible.

Of course I am not going to do that, but not because I could get hurt! It's because I don't give a shit what these people believe in and I see no reason why I should tell them their god doesn't exist to me. I don't care! I don't care I don't care I don't care!!! And that's what they should be able to generously grant me as well, the precious gift of indifference.

So do many religions, it just takes longer because of the "people" aspect. People generally dislike change, even in regards to science. How many people are still calling Pluto a planet? (rhetorical question, doesn't need an answer)

Yes, but not in any public media. Physicists getting angry isn't exactly the kind of big news papers are looking for. It's too personal, and we don't want people to start distrusting science. Crazy religious group threatening to blow up a building is just the right kind of news they're looking for.
I'd be willing to bet that for every terrorist group that makes a bomb threat, there's at least one scientist, computer geek, or sports jock getting angry (almost violently so) at a non-scientist, non-computer geek, or non-sports jock.
Right now, at this very moment, somewhere in the world, one guy is beating up another for the sole reason that they like different sports teams. This has nothing to do with which team came first, or even which is better; you can find statistics and scientifically prove that one is better than the other. This is about the fact that sometimes people are complete and total jerks. "My X is better than your X and I will kill you for it". You don't need to bring religion into it to realize that the human race is messed up.

Just so you know the Irish problem has nothing to do with religion. The two sides are (roughly) divided by religion but that's not the reason for the violence.

Everyone would have a much less stressful life if they simply believed in God, NOT RELIGION! These are two very different things. People get all up-in-arms if you even mention their religion in a negative way. And the funny thing is that more than likely, that lie, I mean religion, was forced on them as soon as they popped out of the womb. They're screaming about something that is nothing more than a way for a few to control the many.

I personally view organized religion as inherently evil. Sure, there may have been a couple of good things that have come out of it but compared to all the negative things, such as the cost in human lives particularly, makes it one of the most disgusting lies ever forced onto the human race! Muslims are no different than Christians, Jews, Hindues, or Buddists. Every religion has been extremely violent and bloody, not to mention judgemental, when the need arose. The religious concept preys on people's ego's, and what are humans if not egomaniacal?

Hey xnopasaranx, I hear and agree mostly with what you are saying.

But ... one of the advantages of being an athiest is not having to get worked up over the rest of the worlds 'religious' bullshit!

btw - that South Park episode was not censored in Ireland. I know Germany has very strict censorship laws for many forms of media (yet you bastards make some sick porn!) so I can appreciate you getting pissed off with the whole thing.

This has nothing to do with German law, more with Comedy Central being afraid for the safety of their asses. Also the episode wasn't even broadcasted in Germany because we're about half a year behind the Enlish version and season 14 has't even begun airing yet.

But its cool to see there is an uncensored version, maybe i'll be able to find it later.

It was actually broadcast on Comedy Central in Ireland, so don't think all the blame is on them for not broadcasting in Germany?

As our exterior minister recently pointed out, here in Germany, we speak german.
So, since this episode is yet to be translated, we don't know yet if the german version will be censored.

xnopasaranx was referring to the us version of course.

Yo xnopasaranx, I'm happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but Doctor Cox had one of the greatest rants of all time. OF ALL TIME.

your OP was TL;DR, but what I did read of it, I totally agree with.
I'm sick of our governments and big organisations bowing down to these superstitious assholes.

ANYONE who makes a death threat, especially to a well known personality, deserves to be in PRISON.

Hell for every terrorist that is put away, I'd be happy for a drug dealer to be let free, not that I agree with them being there in the first place unless they are connected with the mafia or any shit like that.

I hate religion, it is a rapidly spreading disease.

Agreed, totally. My take on it...

.

Couldn't resist this one... :)

science_creationism_timeline.gif

The irony of the whole South Park situation is that Mohammed was already in South Park aaages ago, an no one said diddly. It was only after all that danish cartoon crap got blown completely out of proportion deliberately by scaremongering newspapers, thats its now suddenly a huge big taboo. Utter nonsense. Matt an Trey say it best themselves...

.

Like I said before, agreeing with Matt and Trey, if everyone just went about normal life and didn't make a big deal out of making fun of Mohammad and re aired some of these cartoons and print cartoons made fun of him then this situation would disappear. The news outlets make you think that every person that lives in the middle east and every dark skinned possibly Muslim person walking down any given street on this planet is willing to strap a bomb onto themselves and blow up anyone who even mentions Mohammad. THAT IS NOT THE FACT! These extremists are a very very small minority and can only do so much harm. In fact, maybe if they were bombarded with targets they would realize there is just no fighting back.

Fear controls us and sometimes I don't think it's really the extremists, i.e. terrorists, that control us but it's who is having all this crap constantly reported and crammed in our ears that is trying to control us. One thing that leads me to believe this is all the political cartoons with images of Mohammad in them, these cartoons were not made anonymously, the artists are still alive. Mohammad has been made fun of for a long time and just now it's not ok? Doesn't anyone else think that is just a little odd?

EDIT: Did you see the Simpsons, it was one of the most recent ones, where Bart wrote something like 'Southpark we would back you up if we were not so scared.' I wish all these writers would get together like they did on the writing strike like they did when they threw a hissy fit about payment and just decide that every show is going to make fun of Mohammad. They banned together to get paid more they could ban together to force the networks to be ok with this issue if they wanted. The writers of Simpsons summed it up though, their just a bunch of pussies.

Hey fade you mind spoiler tagging that pic?

I think that religion should be mandatory in schools. These days our children are turning into devil-worshiping jewbag heretics and I for one will not stand for your "atheism" and your "science". I saw that you mentioned Scientology in your first post, but I can't stand you comparing it to a REAL religion, it is absolutely ridiculous. You have to be insane to believe in the ridiculous things they believe in. Everyone knows that God has a son but is also his son at the same time but really isn't because his son dies but they're the same person. Ignore all those liberal media scumbags who say that many bible stories come from ancient writings. At least I'm happy knowing that all those atheists, homosexuals, polygamists, the mentally incapacitated, and nigger-lovers will burn in hell in due time.

Some say that the goal of a terrorist is to cause enough fear to make us scared to leave our homes and that by censoring television and sending us through an hour of security at the airport they have already won - and I think it is time we take the offensive and carpet bag all those filthy brown towelheads. Islam is not only a threat to our country but also a threat to God-fearing Christians everywhere. Even though we basically believe the same thing those guys do not find Our Lord And Savior Jesus Christ and as such need to be brutally slaughtered in the name of Christians everywhere and burn in the fires of eternal damnation.
