Still Fresh
tl;dr --> Well just skip to the list of questions/statements if nothing else!
Hi Guys,
Longtime lurker. I first discovered this while deployed to Iraq in 2008-2009. At the time, I thought I had stumbled on a secret goldmine, and immediately began prepping my Wife for our next purchase. I backed off after reading the current shipping issues. After two months of detailed reading and research, I pegged it as something to come back to later.
Well it's later. I'm a huge handheld gamer. Bought (not hacked) 72 games for my two PSPs, and 40 more for my DS. Now between the PSP dying off while waiting for release of PS Vita (appearing to be March 2012) and my 3DS collecting dust until all the big Mario games come out in November/December. I'm hot on the Pandora's trail. Being on my second deployment, this time to Afghanistan, I have way more time than I care to admit to play games (when not at work) since away from my Wife and son.
First thing I did was jump on this 7-Day guarantee thing. Only to find out the link was broken, and have not received email response from sales. Also after further reading, I saw that the 7-Day guarantee deal was no guarantee at all. I'm glad I wasn't able to complete the order. Money is not an issue, but just throwing $500+ out there with no idea of shipment, IS an issue.
However, I see myself being a Pandora owner in less than 3 weeks. I'm seeking instant gratification through E-Bay or these boards. So we'll see! Since I see myself becoming an owner soon, I figured it was time to ante up, and make an account.
My intent is to confirm what my research has told me. Unfortunately a side effect will be some of you rolling your eyes at the same old stuff. Those that fall in this category, my apologies, just skip this post and move-on.
Here we go, view all of these as True or False statements.
1. Pandora's price in USD is roughly $300. Premium is roughly $500.
2. Only places to buy is E-Bay (or similar), OP Forums, or by luck through Sales@Pandora.
3. Can emulate GB/Nes/MS through SNES/GBA/MAME/NeoGeo near flawlessly.
4. Can emulate PS1 extremely well at this time. With a few exceptions, sound and frame rate no longer a problem.
5. N64 emulation still tricky, but great progress has been made, and now many N64 games run without sound/framerate isues.
6. DC, Saturn, 3DO, and NDS emulation still a dream. PSP emulation hasnt happened but still a possibility.
7. Only does 386 type games. So, I take this to mean no Baldur's Gate? In fact, I'm to assume that most late 1990's computer games will never happen.
8. Can play mp3's no problem.
9. Can watch movies no problem.
10. (Question) Can you use the usb to plug a DVD player into it and watch a movie?
11. (Question) Although unlikely. Could a linux MMO be created for this?
12. (Question) What else can this do besides game emulation, video player, audio player, and web surfing, perhaps it's easier to ask what CANT it do? To me it's a mini-computer meant to be my perfect "Handheld Retro EMU/ROM Player" I'm just looking for someone else to broaden my horizons.
That's all I got off the top of my head. I realize some of the stuff has been beat to death, and some of the stuff asked is very noobish. I assure you I've been doing countless hours of reading and research, but these boards are extremely active and comprehensive. I'm still reading/learning everyday.
