The Rabbit Joint

The second one. You used the first wordpress one in your forum ages ago, right? That sucked.
The second is more full-featured. Sure it doesn't look as nice, but you can probably theme it or something.

I agree more or less with this.

Yay.
I'm not positive this is a good idea. How do you know everyone anyone will come to your forums instead of here?

What I'd like to see is an 'open source entertainment' site that approves things based on license. So if Symbian is eclipse public license, in, if android is open source by some stretch of imagination, in. Not 'this is the form factor open source entertainment was in 2003 and so it shall be in the future'.

They tried that with the old openXile. It really didn't work, and the forums ended up having about 10 subsections.
I think (hope) that these new forums will serve as GP32X minus the Pandora section, basically.

Personally I don't think GP32x has yet become so intolerable that is is necessary to jump ship but maybe that will change in the future if GP32x does become very much more Pandora centric.

Nova and Peter, what exactly do you want me to post about on openXile? I'd like to start actually writing about stuff but I'm not sure what the theme of the site is now.

Yeah, I'd personally rather not leave gp32x. Hell, I spent a week or two on openhandhelds and while the potential was there, it wasn't home :) But I'd like to see gp32x expanded, further then dingoo and pandora. Probably won't happen, but I don't think I'm the only linux guy who doesn't want to go to newly-opensource phones forums to talk about emulation :)

Well, read what's already there and think about it.
There's nothing much to post about atm.

Edit: Oh, I see anyone can post. When I think of something I'll write it up. Just do a news post when you find something interesting, I guess.

Edit2: Nova how are you choosing moderators for the new forums? I'll be happy to help if you need me.

nah, 10 subsections sucks. It should be done with just 3 or so, one for each OS. Then when traffic around a device grows, just slap a OS-subsection for it. Mobileread is the forum I compare forums like this to. They've got a busy 'news' and a few generic discussion sections and about 10 subsections for various devices. The thing is, I'm pretty sure they didn't start with 10 or so device sections. And they certainly don't add devices just on the basis that it exists, forums with very few users are pretty much hidden from sight.

EDIT: that was a bit inaccurate. Mobileread.com has subsections for manufacturers, so it's irex, sony, amazon etc. With high traffic subsections there might be a subsub-section for a specific device or for developers. But anyway, I'd like to see mobileread for open source handhelds.

And as for gp32x-without pandora: aren't you guys overlooking the little + button next to the sections? I'm a bit annoyed that there isn't more to read, but that's because I don't follow pandora or dingoo at all.

I'd be willing to help with this as well if you'd like.

Meh, fsdaily.com is down. And since it is, it occurred to me that openXile might want to consider a social news service for all handheld news. For those who don't know fsdaily it's basically a digg for free software. Works quite nicely and I think you should be able to fill the niche for news with openXile should you decide to do that.

Personally, the more I think about it, there are so many useless forums in the world, that there's no need to have a new one, especially if it's just based on thinking that pandora news/folks are "lame".

Just my two cents.
