The Communication Cube

I spent far too long looking for a pic of her playing.  It would be great if I could find an animated gif, but I couldn't even find a normal one.  If you find any in your adventures please send me a PM with it.

There is a reason I stay in the other room while people watch that show...you bring that reason here.

What a great idea:

Playlist

Breaking up the hardened shell of a society where you live for work

with live handmade music all around you where you wouldn't expect it like this.

Ahh, I miss France.

I'm currently working on a shared repertoire of my session and when enough people can play the tunes, I'll try that in Berlin, although I'm sure Police here will end it quite early.

Lovely forum conversation:

Topic

Games you got to the very end of, then quit...

X:

Life. It just seemed a series of circles and I felt like I was pressing the same buttons over and over and was like "WTF?"
Klumpen:

Yeah, some time ago at least the graphics were good and only the gameplay was crap,
now not even the graphics can compete anymore and the effects are boring.
X:

I used to like the gameplay, now I just feel like it is a grindfest to get to the next level, and what is the point with difficulty scaling?

Once upon a time stories meant something, including my own. Now it just seems like a regurgitation of every story I've ever been told and what is the point since I know the ending?
Klumpen:

It needs some serious modding and decent hacks, maybe that's the point of it.
X:

And that is a wonderful reply, and one that could only be found in a gaming forum. Metaphorumtastic :)

John Carmack:
"Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important."

Boo John Carmack. You lose 20 respect points for that...

Actually, I partly aggree with him depending on which genre.

FPS like the old Doom and Quake have been (and still are)  so successful because of the gameplay and map design and more story would have been in the way.

Games like Bioshock Infinity and many MANY others build up some cinematic story (as if those were guys who didn't make it into the movie business and went to the video game industry)

although all you do is killing things. I'd prefer more gameplay and less bloated story for games like those.

Back then ID software used all the companies energy and users playtime for some revolutionary engine and excellent map design, so he got the right history for his point.

Well, I guess I'm no authority... but I'm finding it really hard to show any interest in games these days.

Games that appeal to me are those in which a story can be woven... and I guess I've always had the aspiration of creating a game engine that would be a preferable medium to creating stories than books or movies... that is my vision...

I lose interest in a game that's just a game.

But what do I matter?

meh quote is meh.

I agree with these quotes.

Stories aren't important in stuff like Tetris or most FPSs I like.  Metroid Prime, if you wish to call them FPSs, is an exception to me, but that is because of my past history with the Metroid series.

Games like Zork or some RPGs kinda need the story to keep me interested.
