Some might already know, as it's not really new, but the Dreamcast game PuyoPuyo apparently can give the Dreamcast a different 3D-style start menu:

I recently started playing Star Wars Jedi Knight Dark Forces II again, and it appears someone made it in Unreal. Looks much more fancy compared to the patched&modded original game:

Some covid-19 related news:
...

Source: Some random quotes from the WHO:
"At present, there is no direct evidence (from studies on COVID-19 and in healthy people in the community) on the effectiveness of universal masking of healthy people in the community to prevent infection with respiratory viruses, including COVID-19."

Topic: Physical interventions to interrupt or reduce the spread of respiratory viruses
TLDR: New research shows there is no direct evidence masking prevents the spread of respiratory viruses, just like WHO stated before and during covid.
Source: https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD006207.pub6/full
Quote: "There is uncertainty about the effects of face masks. The low to moderate certainty of evidence means our confidence in the effect estimate is limited, and that the true effect may be different from the observed estimate of the effect. The pooled results of RCTs did not show a clear reduction in respiratory viral infection with the use of medical/surgical masks. There were no clear differences between the use of medical/surgical masks compared with N95/P2 respirators in healthcare workers when used in routine care to reduce respiratory viral infection."

In the US the Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) collapsed and Silvergate halted it's operations due to financial problems. SVB is marked as the second largest failure for a financial institution in US history.
I wonder if this is the start of a much larger issue, just like in 2008 causing a financial crisis. This crisis hit Europe to, which would add on top of all the ongoing financial problems.

Btw. SVB was tied to the USDC (Stablecoin USD Coin) which backs some crypto currencies, which can also cause instability in those markets.

I hope @levi is well and just away from the forum for a while. I think he was interested in sodium batteries. I know nothign about metallurgy, and I'm not sure how much this reporter knows about it either, but if the article is roughly true, they've found a way to make steel at a third of the temperature, without CO2 as byproduct and cheaper, just by putting sodium in place of carbon.

Title: 2-year Treasury yield posts biggest 3-day decline since aftermath of 1987 stock crash
Source: https://www.cnbc.com/2023/03/13/us-treasury-yields-investors-assess-the-state-of-the-economy.html
Quote: "The yield has fallen around 100 basis points, or a full percentage point, since Wednesday, marking the largest three-day decline since Oct. 22, 1987, when the yield fell 117 basis points. That move followed the Oct. 19, 1987 stock market crash — known as "Black Monday" in which the S&P 500 plunged 20% for its worst one-day drop. The move was bigger than the 2-year yield slide of 63 basis points that took place in three days following the 9/11 attacks."

Next economic crisis coming up?

Finally the NAS asks for discarding race in science, as I once said.
On unrelated news, swearing makes good code. I think it's easy to explain, programmers who feel confident enough not to be fired/ignored/modded down censor themselves less, and those who feel more confident at something are the ones who write better code for that (if you only consider the code that was finally accepted).

Some covid-19 related news:

Topic: Adverse events for mRNA vaccines
Source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36055877/
TLDR: Risk of adverse event after mRNA vaccination is roughly 1 in 800 (Pfizer = ~1 in 1000, Moderna = ~1 in 650).
Quote: "Results: Pfizer and Moderna mRNA COVID-19 vaccines were associated with an excess risk of serious adverse events of special interest of 10.1 and 15.1 per 10,000 vaccinated over placebo baselines of 17.6 and 42.2 (95 % CI -0.4 to 20.6 and -3.6 to 33.8), respectively. Combined, the mRNA vaccines were associated with an excess risk of serious adverse events of special interest of 12.5 per 10,000 vaccinated (95 % CI 2.1 to 22.9); risk ratio 1.43 (95 % CI 1.07 to 1.92). The Pfizer trial exhibited a 36 % higher risk of serious adverse events in the vaccine group; risk difference 18.0 per 10,000 vaccinated (95 % CI 1.2 to 34.9); risk ratio 1.36 (95 % CI 1.02 to 1.83). The Moderna trial exhibited a 6 % higher risk of serious adverse events in the vaccine group: risk difference 7.1 per 10,000 (95 % CI -23.2 to 37.4); risk ratio 1.06 (95 % CI 0.84 to 1.33). Combined, there was a 16 % higher risk of serious adverse events in mRNA vaccine recipients: risk difference 13.2 (95 % CI -3.2 to 29.6); risk ratio 1.16 (95 % CI 0.97 to 1.39)."

Topic: UK government released data for 2023 on covid-19 vaccination to prevent hospitalization
Source: UK government (see attachment), link: https://assets.publishing.service.g...-19-vaccination-programme-8-november-2022.pdf
