Supported Emulators

With the actual Hardware in the gp2x, what emulators would be "technically" suported?
Here we go again!

Short answer is:

Everything upto and including Amiga/SNES is likely
Everything from Amiga/SNES up to PSX/Nintendo64 is maybe (but its a struggle)
Everything from PSX/N64 to XBOX 360/PS3 is not going to happen.

Arcades...
Everything upto System16/M16 is likely
Everything from System16/M16 to NeoGeo/CPS2 is maybe (but its a struggle)
Everything from NeoGeo/CPS2 to Tekken3/Soul Calibur is not going to happen.

There is always the brilliance of homebrew/emu coders adding a margin of error to this.

Edit:M16 not M32

i guess you mean what would be technically possible on the handheld. anything up to 16bit should be safe. check the other threads for more.

edit: ah, i was 2min late.

I guess contribution isn't your 'thing'.
Or yours. You could have updated the wiki instead of criticising me

I dont see the point in advertising a website as having a piece of information when it doesn't.

Its like saying "go visit this website, cos one day it will have your answer on it"

edit: spellig.. ranting

Apparently criticism is needed, as you 1.) Did not check the page after your comment to see the additions I made, 2.) Did not note that I am an active contributer to the GP2X wiki.

Calm down and move along.
Could you not have just made a comment that you had updated instead of taking a cheap shot at me?

...moving along

i will reformulate my question:

so, no NeoGeo arcade PLAYABLE emulators?

btw, those cadillacs and dinossaurs are MAME right? if yes, will be MAME possible? (in a PLAYABLE emulator)

The answers are not all that simple. Its first important to understand what MAME is. MAME is a multiple machine emulator. That is it emulates lots of machines with different motherboards/ chips/ controls/ screen orientation and size its by its own defination a documetation project. The fact that you can play the games is just an aside 3000+ originals at last count. Neo-geo(about 130 games although I would argo 6 franchises KOF/MS etc) was just one set of hardware in this project, and has been discussed all over the place. There is also another set of hardware CPS1 which your beloved "cadillacs and dinossaurs" is on, which is indeed part of MAME. MAME is slow slow slow, becuase its not designed for playability like say callus or raine(other emulators), Reesy(and I could be lieing I'm sneeky like that) has/is creating a dedicated CPS1 emulator, also I notice finalburn author has been mentioned before in connection with GP2X(system16 emulation + others although I'm not sure if CPS1 was added by someone else in the finalburnalpha project)

In conclusion I would expect better(as in playable) emulation on the GP2X than MAME

Playable CPS1 would make me ejaculate. Also, whichever board the G.I. Joe arcade game used.

Also, I forget his username on here, but I think the guy who made gngeo expressed interest in a GP2X port. That would be pretty sweet.

Ok, I've googled for system16 and all I get is the website system16. What base of software roms does this cover?

For instance, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles runs on a 68k chip. Is 68k possible? And what other factors would matter for this?

As far as my friends are concerned, having a playable pocket TMNT would be a MAJOR selling point. They always loved playing TMNT on my laptop at school.

Lots of systems use the Motorola 68000, including the MegaDrive/Genesis, Neo Geo and Amiga. Megadrive emu runs pretty good on a GP32 so 68k will definately be good on the GP2X.

The dificult part is usualy the (mostly) undocumented custom chips that improve graphics and sound in consoles so it is impossible to say if the system16 will be any good.

my major selling point would be if ssamurai showdown would work........but i dont think its going to happen :(
