Supported Emulators

but samurai showdown uses an old chip that should be way easier to emulate than the newer one.

If you look at the current Mame Emulator for GP32, it will give you a rough idea what we can acheive on the GP2X. as for Final Fight and newer games, it would be better to port an emu that is more specific to that particular type of arcade board (CPS1/2) since later revisions of mame are bloated to the hilt.

As for Neo Geo Games, a neo geo cd emulator is supposedly in the works so fingers crossed.

my major selling point would be if ssamurai showdown would work........but i dont think its going to happen :(
Well, there are already video clips available that show a NeoGeo CD emulator playing Aerofighters and Metal Slug on the GP2X with (what looks like) a very respectable framerate... There is a NeoGeo CD version of Samurai Shodown, so I think it's safe to say that you will eventually be able to play that version of it on the GP2X. As far as I know, the NeoGeo CD versions of these games should be exactly the same as the arcade/home versions except with load times. There are also versions of SS for the Genesis and SNES, which will also almost certainly be playable on the system.

However, I think it might be difficult to pull off NeoGeo AES/MVS emulation on the GP2X if only because of the memory constraints. Many NeoGeo games are over 64MB, and couldn't be loaded into the GP2X's memory, so it would take a lot more work to get those to run. I think Samurai Shodown 1-4 are all under 64MB each though, so we might be safe.

there are also many mvs games that will load fine with the 64mb of ram :)
i think we'd all rather play those games under an mvs emulator rather than neo cd(iso-mp3 takes a lot of space).
