'sleuth Slots' Fruit Machine Sim Released

Great game, Ruckage! I played it until I cracked the case! Very good presentation. This plays just like a real fruit machine. I work in Las Vegas on slot machine games, and my supervisor is from a slot machine company called Barcrest in the UK. Anyway, he brought fruit machines to the U.S. for us to have at my work, and yours is very close to the ones we have. My supervisor is going to get a real kick out of this game!

Excellent work! I look forward to the next game in this series.

im up to 250 with 6 wins..I guess it would be higher if I wasnt so stupid about the rules of things. Who would have thought that a read me is useful. :D

Anyone else?!

EDIT: 350

Great game, really addictive, even if you can't win real money :) The graphics and sounds are excellent!!!

Looks great, as always Ruckage :) Thank You

Just wish my 2x wasn't playing up so much at the moment.
I hope it's nothing major and you can get it fixed. I'd be lost if mine went wrong.

I delayed the release of this by well over an hour while I wrote the readme and while I was doing it I kept thinking to myself, why bother, no one will read it :D
If you're new to fruit machines I highly recommend you read it as It covers all the basics to get you started. Also explains how to solve the murder.

I'm really pleased that this seems to be so well liked. Is there anything about this you don't like or think could be improved upon? What about the odds of winning, do you think its too high as it is definitely in the players favor. (not that it really matters since no real money is involved). Let me know what you think as even if I don't make any changes to this game it could help make the next fruit machine sim better ;)

Wow! Congratulation (again)Ruckage.
"The murderer is in this very house". I didn't sleep too much that night because of your game. It is really addictive and have an awesome gfx design. It almost look like a pinball game... Except there's no ball and no flippers
Thank you for this :)

The only way, for me, to improve it would be to create more stages/screens, perhaps with some little bonus arcade games.
Winning or not doesn't seem to be the point here.

Excellent game! Solved it once then had to go to bed :p plus went bankrupt before that on my first go haha!

How hard would it be to make different skins/games for this?

Would love to see a few more different games. Btw, loved the little "dot matrix" screen, very close to the real thing especially when the words spin around, similar to pinball game's screens.

Thanks!

Really the only thing for me is this: every stage of the game has theme music playing behind it, or a lil looped sample, or something that indicates what current "state" the game is in (eg nudge, top screen, each lil top-screen sub-game etc)... except for the main game. No music, no sound effects for the reels spinning or stopping - very very little indeed. It just sticks out so much more because it's the only part that doesn't.

My personal suggestion would be to add sound effects for the spinning reels and the stopping of the reels (a nice "brrrrrrrrrrrrr... chk.. chk.. chk" sorta thing). I think music would dilute too much the contrast you seem to be going for (between main game and bonus games). It just sounds a bit starkly bare with nothing there.

In summary though, I hate slot machines. HATE.

I played this one for more than two hours straight before the wife wrenched it from my hands. Nice, nice. :)

(That being said though, I do question the depth and longevity of the game. Perhaps the addition (to this game or the next) of a nice lil bonus or subgame that happens rather rarely but almost happens quite a lot would keep people on the hook? Maybe add some sort of 'meta-game' that focus people's attention - like keep track of how quickly someone solves the murder, for example. Such a thing might actually motivate people to concentrate on doing so. Having each servant only know half the story was a very nice idea, btw.

Hating slot machines as I do, but often stuck with waiting for other people to play them, I study them quite closely - what makes them addictive and such. The above observations are born of that - if I think of any more, I'll add them. Coz, like, I know everything. :)

Great game though. Did I mention that? Your work is inspiring to any aspiring Fenixer (or anything else). Keep it up!)

Cheers, but I think its buggered, im thinking of buying a new one but I dread the thought of going back to the stick, after having the wonderful d-pad mod :(

I have download all your recent releases and can look forward to having a 'ruckage orgy' when I get a new one :D

I think I will get a new one when cluedo is released, but give me a bit of time to save up B)

I actually have an idea for another game with an approach similar to what you describe that would forget realism and have lots of bonus games depending on the result of the reel spin.

Skinning wouldn't be easy and would just result in the same game with different graphics anyway. However much of the code I made for this I can recycle which would make it a bit easier to do the next game (though still quite a lot of work)

I agree the sound is sparse on the main game but this was a conscious decision as I was going for realism and the real machines behave in just this manner (in the UK at least). I wouldn't want to add too much music on the main section but a 'brrrrr' sound while the reels were spinning would work well and some real machines use a sound like that as well. There should already be a reel stop sound though.

Fair point and I do think longevity and depth is limited but I guess it works well as a time waster. As I'm fairly certain I'm going to make a few more of these I think it would be nice if they could be selected from a frontend and all share the same accounts so it would be like a mini arcade. I think I will probably do at least 2 more realistic machines, adding more of the features found in the real machines and then maybe 1 which throws realism out the window and would allow for much more depth and variety.

Where I come from a "fruit machine" is a vending machine with fruit for sale.

:p Where do you come from out of interest? When I grew up my father called them "one armed bandits" :D I guess that's just as weird as "fruit machine" to other cultures.

Nice to know that I'm not the only one to suck badley enough for bankruptcy on the first game :D
Superb as always Ruckage.
I Usually don't do fruit machines (even though I own a real one), but this kept me busy for a couple of blasts tonight & I'll definitely be playing it again soon.
