OH FUCK NO!

they made the volume control a single button, this means it's screwed for vertical gameplay.

It's a rocker switch, meaning it is really two switches with one button covering them. How does that suck for vertical gameplay?

volume buttons will be configurable. you'll have two places to touch, wich means vertical games with 2 buttons are possible.

Look at the sun, not the shadow.

I think the problem with one button is that you can't be hitting both the volume buttons (which I think are configurable) at once for verticle games (MAME?).

Whats wrong with just using it the way you are supposed to hold it... nvm...
many mame games are played on a vertical screen, not a horizontal one.

Hey, two buttons are better than one even if it is a rocker switch. And personally I prefer buttons for volume control than a dial - the GP32's was far too sensitive and only had about two useful positions when using the speakers.

well couldn't you just awkwardly hold your hand up top, because that works just as well... oh well...

edit, I think this fake actually, like how the power light is on, well the screen is at leaste fake could bet eh real unit tho

I feel pretty sure the screen image shown here is fake it's far to vivid to be an LCD so it's probably just someone superimposing it over a real turned on system just to get a better visual.

The shoulder buttons could be an option too... or maybe hoding the system the other way and use the select and start buttons as action buttons. It's not a perfect idea but then again I don't care much about vertical.

I was bitching up a storm about the lack of real action buttons by the joystick for MAME. the start/select buttons and the volume could have been swapped too. I don't like buttons like that for volume. You need too sit there and hold down to get the desired volume and if you Are in an app that takes over those buttons you won't be able to change the volume. Kind of annoying. There may also be times when you can't get the volume you want either. one tap higher is too loud, one tap less and it is too soft, no in-betweens. I wish it just had simple old dial that you could change anytime. Everyone flamed instead of telling GPH they wanted it changed. Oh well.

I think the unit can be modded to add action buttons there (they would just be wired to the other action buttons) but will be a little dicey. I may do it when I get it. The volume button could be cut and separated into two also.

And yes the screen there is definetly fake. Look at the resolution, it is like 640 x 480, not 320 x 240, dead giveaway. I am starting to think they don't have any real launcher done yet.

Do what I did to prove that image is quite possible on a 320x240 screen. Copy that image to your favourite paint application. Select just the yellow screen area with a box selection, copy and paste into a new image. Now resize to 320x240. Not much difference and the text (except for the three lines under the heading) and icons look the same as they do in that image.

let it go. it's fake.
As for the volume button I wonder how it's shaped underneath? I mean for Dave's sake, technically couldn't a mod be as simple as cutting the button down the middle to make 2 separate ones? I dont quite recall how a "rocker" button looks, but the fact that it's still two separate contacts means it should be easy to mod if it's really that important... maybe volume functions can be switched to he shoulder or face buttons during that time.

Yes it looks to be possible to cut it in half. It seems so from Squidge's PCB photos.

Um... Would it really kill you to just play the veritcal screened mame games the regular way on the GP2X? Sure, the screen might not be quite as big(it'll be like widescreen, except reversed), but it's still playable, and you have plenty of buttons to work with then. Plus, it looks to me as though the joystick would be kind of awkward to use when holding it on its side anyhow.

And as far as the volume thing is concerned, I too proposed that change to GPH. And I didn't flame you at all, but I did tell you to just calm down, wait, and see what unfolds(not cuz of the volume thing but the constant bitching about how the GPX2 was gonna be a disaster). I don't really care about the vertical mame thing, but a dial would just have been much more convenient. And they could have given us some extra buttons too. The volume would be out of the way, and there would be a lot of extra space on whichever side they didn't have start and select on.

Yes it would kill him. He would explode and take out 20% of the surounding population.

He had a whole thread on this and his position never changed before, is sure wont change now.
