1. For those of us Americans complaining about the price, well that is what we deserve.
2. You voted for a war mongering oil industry president that cares nothing about running up the national debt to record levels to make his cronies rich, and you did it *twice*.
3. Next year when you elect Guiliani it will only get worse.

1. Not me.
2. I sure didn't, either time.
3. I won't.

The current b*stard tarnished one of my nicknames, the very least of his impeachable offenses. And the issues with the dollar are the result of many decades of foolish monetary policies on the part of both of the totally corrupt and OWNED (but not by the people) mainstream parties.
QFT.

i didn't vote for him either, so i dont really want to hear it.

Let's see a nice ad with Craig in a pair of 5 inch soled doc martins, denim jacket stuffed with pillows and huge shades coming back from the future to terminate the current console market with his Craiginator.

bad austrian accent: "Sony PSP?" breaks door down etc

On a related note, is there going to be some sort of compatibility layer to use GP2X programs which the author hasn't ported over because they're too lazy/an ancient martial arts master living in the mountains/dead?
Doubtful, as most gp2x programs are statically linked with code that attacks the hardware directly, whether for the frame buffer, blitter, etc. Things like that will not work as the new hardware is completely different.

Squidge has hinted already that Spot (the GP32-ifier) was likely to appear on whatever replaced the GP2x.

But as to a GP2x compatibility layer... I'd imagine that the archetectures are too different. Which is not a comment on the ARM9-->CortexA8 move (that's still ARM-->ARM) but more as to the specialised hardware in the 2x, and particularly the second processor and h/w accelleration features of the MMSP2 which Paeryn put into SDL.

Something tells me those might prove awkward in getting GP2x software across which uses them. Maybe one would surface for software-only single core programs, though...

EDIT: see above comment by Squidge himself :)

The publicity of a crime lord backing the "Craiginator"(the name would really fit then) could actually help drive sales.
You mean like the Gizmodo? Didn't work out for them... but maybe it was a little late.

I remember someone made a site with these dev guidelines for the gp2x and as far as I know no developer used it.
That's why I talked about official guidelines, ones we'd know about as soon as the console would start shipping

I just mentioned that very site on the previous page of the thread: GP2XStandards

However the longer the "Craiginator" delays the tougher the sell.
Agreed, but the openness of the device will sell to a hardcore audience even if there will something "better" in the market.
Of course the sooner it is launched the more likely it will be a success.

If the first plans of Craig weren't delayed because of all the criticism on the blueprint it could have been a sweet Christmas present.

The only way to eliminate the national debt is to stop buying things like the Craiginator from overseas. Actually though, the national debt is a good thing since it promotes commercial interest. Finally, I didn't know that we were getting free oil from Iraq, I'm not seeing any benefits if we are. My aim isn't politics though since there isn't any way to change your opinions. I'll save my stricter judgment for when the Craiginator comes out.

There should be an memory card formatting option, similar to the psp's, in which the card gets formatted correctly and cleared, first of all. Then, it automatically makes directories for programs and a separate rom folder. Something like this:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROGRAMS>
SNES9X
DrMD
MAME
ETC...

ROMS>
SNES>
Final Fight (U).smc
Super Mario World + All Stars (U).zip
GENESIS> Sonic the Hedgehog (U).zip
ARCADE>1942 (U).zip
ETC...

SAVES>
SNES>
Final Fight (U).sav
Final Fight (U)1.sav
ETC...

AUDIO>
MUSIC>
KoRn - Freak on a Leash.mp3
Ludacris - Southern Hospitality.flac
Missy Elliot - Hot Boyz.aac
PODCASTS>Attack Of The Show
ETC...

VIDEO>
MOVIES>
300.avi
Princess Mononoke.mp4
ETC...
SHOWS>
Futurama - Season 1, Episode 2.avi
The Simpons - Season 4, Episode 5.avi
ETC...
CLIPS>
Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc. (Music Video).mpg
ETC...

PICTURES>
NATURE>
Volcano.jpg
COOL>
F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.jpg
ETC...

TEXT/PDF/COMIC>
BOOKS>
Ender's Game.rtf
ETC...
MANGA>
Naruto.PNG
ETC...
ETC...

SETTINGS>
SYSTEM>
Screen Settings.cfg
Hot Keys.cfg
ETC...
BROWSER>
Settings.cfg
History.txt

ETC...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Note: The files won't be there when the card is formatted, there would only be the folders. This is just an example of how it would look...

This keeps everything easy and organized for the user. There would be no need to copy any roms for multiple emulators of a single console. For example: SNES9X and SquidgeSNES would recognize and use the same roms and save files.

The same goes for other programs. For example: the Craiginator's built-in media player will recognize the and use the same music files as OldPlay. All it takes is some cooperation from the programmers we have here.

Do you agree, guys?

***I'm sorry for the length of this post***

Ive payed at least as twice as much for all of my games consoles than you americans have so quit your moaning, put up or shut up ;)

even if you bust your but trying to do your part to help the trade deficit, bush is borrowing money hand over fist from china and japan to support the "war". billions and billions. $300 worth of video game equipment is not going to make a differenc.

here's the reasons for the usa debt as i see it:

1. shady lending practices, especially in the real estate market. (quit smiling sam, uk has this problem too :p). you will note that canada's currency is very stable. their laws about money lending are much stricter.
2. this has led to some abuse.
3. current fed chairman is trying to do these bastards a favor by allowing inflation to go up so the real estate market doesn't crash.
4. as a result, we basically have double-digit inflation.
5. it doesn't look this way on paper, because they changed the definition of inflation, to exclude things like gas and food (it'd be funny if it wasn't so sad)
6. our military spending is insane, and all of this is money borrowed from other nations. if china dumped all their treasury bonds tomorrow, our economy would shut down. period.

as a result of it's being spread so thin, as well as the continuing inflation, the american dollar sucks. even if we pulled out of iraq today, our economy wouldn't stabilize until 2012 or 2013. so you can blame bush if you want, for the military spending. but also blame the fed, and of course don't forget the people who voted bush.

remember that $300 tax cut? doesn't seem so great when $300 isn't worth shit anymore, does it?

look...it's a sinking ship. it's too late. i'm sorry. either we get out, or we sink with it, but there's no use complaining anymore, and no time for crying. but the dream is over.

but my point is, no one should be worried about impacting the budget by buying the craiginator. just get the damn thing, and enjoy it, and if you ever are within arm's length of our glorious leader, give him a good smack for me.

What if someone wants to use the device for something not to do with games or emulation? Say they want to use it as a simple PDA (Web brower, calendar, notes, etc). I think it should leave the card blank so it's upto the user how they wish to partition it. Remember that this isn't just an upgraded gp2x.

Now, thats what I agree with.

For stuff like photos, movies, etc, it should be left upto the user. However, maybe the built in player can save the last directory to the sd card or something, and other players such as OldPlay can pickup this directory.

Hi all, just signed up with my F-200 in the post as we speak.... well as i type anyway.... so be gentle

Been having a look at this new Craiginator dodad and it sounds excellent, got a few quickie questions though not sure if they have been asked before as 215 pages of posts is a lot to trawl through :D

anayways.

1. Seen as I have just splashed on an f-200, how far along is development of the craiginator. (The specs look pretty orgasmic so I probably will lay down a bundle of queens heads for one but I wanna get my monies worth out of the f-200 too.)

2. the wiki page says PS1 emulation full speed is a given, is this with sound?

3. Is mouse emu in games/menus via the rather cool looking slidy analogue controllers or via the touch screen? (probably a bit to early to say for this one and down to software dev)

4. Wiki states no 6th/7th gen emulation. Is PSP considered 6th/7th? ;)

Glad to see this thread turned into the ever popular/typical USA bashing fest. I'm sorry that all of you living in the USA like I am have such awful lives now due to your "worthless" currency. Having to pay over $300 for a top of the line portable is a crime against humanity. Maybe the UN will start a worldwide effort to fund our Craiginators.

Ha ha, I enjoyed reading that. But don't give up hope. I'm sure after a few decades of solid leadership, it'll be better. Honestly, I think Clinton will win next election. Just like I thought Kerry had to win the one before.

Australia is about to have an election as well. One leader has served 3 terms greatly improving the economy from the previous ruins and the other is a union back fool who will surely win.

Anyway, I'll be forking out the 350 aussie dollars needed before the economy goes to hell. :) People who complain about the high price can still get the GP2X f200 now which is aimed more at their market segment.

Craig is a fast and efficient businessman. Think of him as the Anti-GPH. This should *hopefully* not take as long to materialise as the GP2x did.

Edit: This post is a reply to one way back, that'll teach me to reload more often

1. Craig says we'll be getting moar pics and videos soon.

2. Yes. High/full speed N64 with sound will probably also happen.

3. Either.

4. Yes. Although DS, since it's about as powerful as an N64, might be emulated.

Normally things like this take much longer than expected, so if the promised launch-date is q1 2008 don't be surprised if it will be q3 2008. I don't want to sound negative, just seen it so much and not just from small companies.
