Yes I'm a little worried that the docking station will just be for video relay and charging as opposed to some sort of boost in process/gpu power.
I don't like that segmented dpad, although I do see why they did that and there is the pro controller.
I hope it will be backward compatible with Bluetooth controllers and possibly GameCube adaptors.
I do like the concept behind it so. Now I have this and Pyra to try and save up for O_O

My guess is that the dock has processing power in it , that works in combination with the SOC in the tablet when its docked. When you use the tablet, games probably take a resolution hit so they can play on it - maybe down to 720p or something.

It will be interesting if the above is true and also:

1) How long does the battery last in the tablet when gaming with it

2) What happens to the whole console if you damage the tablet portion, is the whole thing then cactus

3) Is there a 3DS successor planned , if so , how will the switch effect sales of it. Or is the switch meant as a console and 3DS replacement

4) When you remove the controller portions from the tablet, like in the ad when he is on the plane. Unless you also carry the central controller connector, the controller must be used as two halfs. Needing a central connector for the controller IMO is kind of crap, it affects portability by needing to carry it around. More importantly , its a pain in the ass to have to dig it out of your bag and setup the controller.

My favorite part is that Nintendo finally accomplished a mobile that can be comfortably used by two people. On top of that, and this is the part that sold me, using two mobiles to play local four player is an outstanding prospect. Thinking of all the times I had a handheld with me while hanging out with friends when I thought, "really wish I could be playing a Nintendo title right now but no one else can play." If EA finally opens to Nintendo and can pull off some really cool local multiplayer sports games Nintendo may have a chance at reclaiming a chunk of the market.

It seems to be getting buried but Nintendo has actually confirmed that, I'm afraid:

"The Nintendo Switch Dock has been created so that it is extremely easy to seamlessly switch from playing games on a TV to transition into a portable mode," a Nintendo representative told IGN.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/10...nintendo-switch-clarifies-additional-features

I'm honestly not really very surprised. Housing a second set of processing hardware + DRAM in the dock was pretty much out of the question, and I think people were overestimating how much the dock could really improve the thermal situation. Plus developers really don't want a console that has two different performance targets.

Another unfortunate realization: it probably won't have a touch screen because it wouldn't be available in console mode. And it'll need to have at least three parts with batteries that need to be charged. So you'll probably need to periodically slot the controller parts into the console when it's docked in order to keep the charge up.

The more I think about this, the less Im feeling for it. Look at the dpad, or should I say lack of, it's just 4 game buttons . I can see why they did this (so both sides of the controller are equal and be used by two players), but it's still bad.

Apparently the pro controller will have a proper dpad from what i've heard, if so, not sure how devs would deal with the difference . Are they really going to develop a game that works better with a controller that's optional - by that I mean, make use of diagonal movement which is achievable on the pro controller and not the standard.

Also, I can see now why Nvidia didn't release a follow up to the Shield Portable (or even Tablet) . Which leeds me to my biggest concern. The Nintendo Switch just seems to be a next level Shoield tablet with detachable controller (like the Ipega 9023 used with the current Shield tablet) . How is that innovative. . The only innovative thing I can see, is that the controller can split in two for two player use. That in itself , like with the Apple TV, suggests devs will code for the lowest denominator - a half controller ie a stick and buttons. It's seems a very segmented platform for devs to develop for.

Yes, I don't find the dual controller concept very compelling.. that's a seriously bad controller.. it reminds me of that iMpulse keychain controller. Looks very uncomfortable to use and very limited.

But I also don't expect there to be a big surge in renewed interest for local multiplayer on this thing. So I expect a lot of games just won't even bother supporting the dual controllers. A few major Nintendo games will I'm sure, but those have pretty simple controls anyway.

I think we should wait and see. It might turn out better than we think!

I could be wrong about this, but my impression has always been that devices that receive such a positive initial reaction end up doing pretty well.

I was a bit unsure, as long i ditnt know what NX now it, the rumors dit say its a Handheld/Console Hyprid, but i could also be a normal Console..
So i wasnt that much interestet until yesterday..
A Console, where you can play Skyrim on the big TV, or in Bed whyle there is a big snow storm out there, or to play Zelda in Garden, whyle you use a normal Controller,
And when you need a Handheld, you can use it also this way..

Its not that stationari as an Wii U or a PS4, and its also supports Lokal Multiplayer whitout the need of multiple devices..

2017 will be quite expensive

One thing I'm worried about is, that there are 3 accumulator packs, which have to be loaded at the same time.
There will be a high chance that every time you want to play, one of this 3 accumulators will be empty.

Mybe there will be some sort of a Balanzer, which make sure, that every Part of the Unit gots the right amount of energy..

Otherwise, you could give your enemy the Controllerpart of your Handheld, wich isnt full loadet, to make sure you win easely in Mario Kart :)

It looks like Nintendo hasn't announced everything about the Switch yet. It would make sense, considering that Nintendo has had a lot of problems with people not understanding the Wii U, that they would focus on one aspect of the new system for now (and also because they have previously voiced that they don't want to allow competitors enough time to copy them again).

So far it seems that backwards compatibility is out, as the DS has 2 screens, and this only has one, and while they may have a work around for that, knowing "N", it's doubtful. As far as battery goes, it will be 2-3 hours at best, as they have old tech that is the N3DS and it barely gets 4-5 hours on a charge.

The more I see of this, the less impressed I get. It really is a Wii U "slim" disguised as some great new effort in video gaming. There isn't one practical application I saw in that video, that I ever see my self using. "N" refuses to let go of this group gaming in the same room mentality. The friends I grew up with gaming, haven't been together once in the same room for 20+ years, and my current friends who live locally, enjoy playing PS4/ONE games online with each other on 60"+ size TV screens(that truly show off the HD gaming).

It's a bunch of stuff I just don't see many people wanting or caring about. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just want good games, and not another unique way to play them. So now, me and 4 friends can sit around a tiny screen somewhere, that is to small for 2 people to watch comfortably, but 4 of us are supposed to play together on this? Am I missing something here?

The DS was the last great innovation "N" had, as it did allow for an enhanced experience by having two screens working together. This "switch" gimmick, is just that, another gimmick. If this was truly Iwata's last great concept, I'm not surprised by it. I mean, it's always nice to get new tech from "N", as each system they produced is ages behind the competition, so when they finally catch up with 4-5 years ago, it's nice to see what can be produced. A nice HD 3D Mario game I'm sure will be killer, but that should have happened on the Wii U(and I'm aware of 3D World).

And overall, this should get some decent 3rd party support, but this is just more of the same in my opinion, as now there are several extra items that I'm sure will need to be purchased(and this is what their banking on for extra funds from consumers), but it's just extra's for the sake of making a buck. So I can now buy extra mini controls that look uncomfortable as all hell, and a bigger battery, as they will give the smallest possible, and then have a bigger one as an option(as they did with the Wii U).

I'm just not seeing a revolutionary gaming experience here, that couldn't be had cheaper else where. "N" I'm sure just loved selling wiimotes, and extra nunchucks to the masses, but that is just extra stuff that isn't necessary for proper gaming. How about a good online system that allows online play anywhere anytime? How about a proper account, that allows that a game bought yesterday, can still be played on the new system tomorrow? How about region free gaming, with no strings attached, so when you butcher or censor games, fans can buy the versions they want to play? These things may happen, but that is what should have been shown, and not all these uninteresting applications.

If this is sub $200, they have a chance, but if it's 300+, and you still need to buy extras, this will be the Wii U all over again, or the Wii U "slim" as I'm calling it.

Backward Compabilitie isnt a big problem, as it dostnt need 2 Screens for DS Games,
They also could put the 2 DS Screens on the 1 Screen of the Switch,
The same like on the Pandora, or the 2DS,

I didn't get the Wii-U so I may consider this, it still depends on what else I hear about it.

I personally don't see them doing that, as that is why I said it is "doubtful", although possible. That would mean consumers are playing games in a different way than they where intended(2 screens side by side, or top over bottom). That would also mean they would be taking an idea that is used in an emulator, and that would be a HUGE no, no for them. May it happen, sure, but unless they pull that holier than thou stick out of their asses, don't count on that.

Also it dosnt need to be backwart compatible, i plane to keep my New 3DS XL beside the Switch, so i have something to play the 3DS and DS Games,
I currently also use my GB Micro for GBA Games, and its much older than the diverence between Switch and 3DS/WiiU

Yeah, BC isn't an issue for me either, but considering how that has been a "N" staple for the last few generations, and when their systems are low on game releases, it helps to offer BC as it gives access to a HUGE library it wouldn't have otherwise. I guess if this system has tons of games and support, it's a moot point, but we all know that's not going to happen.

What about your GB and GBC games? The micro was just too small for me, and not being able to play my favorite games made it kinda useless for me. The micro and light are the only ones I don't have in my collection, and if I ever get rid of a few of my modded original GBs I will consider a Light (if I don't throw a backlight in my GB Pocket instead).
