Hi guys,
I created a first configuration for XFCE for you to test and comment on.
The Panel:
I have created a panel configuration in the most ergonomic way I could find for the Pandora:
etc_xdg_xfce4__next_panel_hmc.tar.gz
Simply untar this and replace your /etc/xdg/xfce4 contents with the contents of this tarball.
I hope it really contains all the settings that I have made.
Let me explain:
The panel is on the top. Easier reachable with the stylus than on the bottom.
The applications menu (notice the new icon
is on the right, where it is easily reachable for a right-handed person using the stylus.
It may be a matter of getting used to, that the sub menus open to the left. Let me know what you think about that. I think it's much better than having the applications menu in the bottom left corner.
Then, from left to right:
On the left:
- Shutdown button
- Reboot button
- Clock with weekday display (how often do I have a look onto the clock but also want to know the current weekday!)
- Open application buttons
On the right:
- Workspaces buttons; 2 workspaces vertically arranged to save horizontal space on the panel
- Show Desktop button
- Screenshot button (this may be a good helper in the .next development phase. May be removed later.
- Notification area containing full-size buttons of:
Pandora Configbutton
- Network Manager
[*]A launcher button with a dropdown for some often-used programs: File Manager, PNDManager, Terminal, Web Browser, Upgrade Pandora OS
[*]The applications menu button
Keyboard shortcuts:
I configured the Pandora button to open the applications menu.
However, this has a problem: If you longpress the Pandora button to trigger the "kill application" dialog, this is interpreted by the repeated keypress settings as a lot of presses that raise a lot of application menus. It seems that in current SZ1.54 this is solved by simply switching off the key repitition. I hope there is a more elegant fix for this ;-) Any idea?
Comments, critizism and suggestions for further optimization are welcome.
