New Unofficial Blog Feature: Live Chat

I'm liking pandorapress.net as well.
Although, for the lulz, pandoratheexplorer.info would be epic. If slightly childish.
And for some reason, the chat isn't working for me right now.

EDIT: On the site it says chat is over capacity, but I went to the chatroll.com site (which was really slow by the way) and I was the only one in the channel.

pandorablog.org is my vote. Because these kind of projects always seem to be .org anyway

I bought pandoramic.com a year ago with the intention of starting up a pandora fansite, but havn't gotten round to it yet, if you want to use it you can :)

.org makes it seem more like a small companies web site.
.net is more in tune with the way it all works IMO :)
I'm a bit of a TLD purist. .com is meant to be for commercial organisations and companies, while .org is for charities, collectives and other non-profit organisations. .net is for people and organisations providing network infrastructure, like ISPs.

That said, these days you can just buy whatever TLD you like, so it really doesn't matter than much. But personally I think .org works - as Kyosis says, these sort of things are usually .orgs. It's what you expect.

To me .net kind of means "independent" stuff: not a company, but not as official as an organisation.
Alternatively it can just mean "someone else got the .com first".

I'd go for pandorapress.net
pandoranews is good too, but you can't beat a good bit of alliteration. :p

http://java.freenode.net/ is the best solution. FreeNode has the most active channel (#openpandora) and they already have a solution in place. :)

Despite Java in your name, not everyone has Java installed or want it as a browser plugin.

Try ChatFox or whatever it's called.

Chatzilla? Or did you actually mean ChatFox ?

He probably refers to an IRC client. That's the advantage of IRC: you don't have to install Java to use it if you don't want to.

Also, Java is much better than the alternatives would be: Either Flash (which is buggy and laggy as hell) or some non-IRC based solution, which would suck just because. And Java and IRC are open source, which other solutions aren't :p

So we have a new domain, we have working IRC, and we're almost ready for the change over. Props to atomicthumbs for doing 99% of the work. Stay tuned! Oh, and apologies in advance to the Java haters. :p

Time to update your bookmarks and feeds! Like this says: http://openpandora.wordpress.com/2009/09/10/time-to-update-your-bookmarks-and-feeds/

Quick link to the new chat page: http://pandorapress.net/chat/

Still a few things to do, like getting a chat link into the sidebar. WP is being wacky. That aside, it's all systems go.

Nice! There's been an increase of idlers on the #openpandora channel already! Good to know that the IRC chat shenanigans finally worked out!

Also, I like the fact that you have a private server, but the domain name isn't really ideal...

.org would have been better, but oh well, this'll do, it's the inside that matters after all ;)

looks great! Thanks for all the hard work Gruso and Atomicthumbs.

Just a few points:

Is it possible to get a scrollback log somehow? It makes it a lot easier for users to join a conversation, and was something the old chat had.

Also the current default name is quite long relative to most IRC names, perhaps PPUserNNN or something would be better?

Question: Do I have to have ident running to go on pandora chat? It keeps dumping me out because I don't have ident (auth). And ident has just seemed to be such a hassle to me.

TLDs don't really mean anything anymore, at least for the big three

Do you or anyone else recall who setup the toolbar? Links there will needed to be updated, and the chat could probably be added.
