Great, a new joystick cap. Woo, woo. Big whoop.
Ok, this will mean that the joystick performs better than the stock one, but this doesn't solve any issues with the stick not registering right (when the user has used the stick a lot), being iffy on registering left as opposed to diagonals, and a host of other problems users have been having.
I am all for improvements, and at least this means that people can use an improved cap, unless they already use DaveC's, for minimal cost; but it would have been far far better if GamePark had offered its customers a D-pad option (even if it cost a few quid, as an upgrade option) as this is really the best way forward.
Hay, I don't mind, I made my own D-pad (as per my thread); but the vast majority of users are still using the crappy joystick supplied.
A bit of an improvement, but not the "perfect one". I would be happier if GamePark offered its customers an official upgrade pack, comprising of a proper D-pad, with new front case (to house it) and very easy installation instructions.
If people have a need to do an upgrade, they will brave it. I remember opening my original GBA with trepidation to install the Afterburner (front light assembly) - that involved removing the motherboard and case, putting a new anti-glare cover on the LCD itself, placing a new light membrane, cutting part of the unit, wiring and soldering. I suggest, if GamePark bring out an "official" D-pad upgrade kit, and charge for it, many many people will buy one.
