I just ordered my gp2x from www.gbax.com and within about 5 mins I got back an email saying:

There will be a delay of 3/7 days in despatching your order as we are
currently waiting for the new joysticks caps which will be fitted free
of charge to our consoles. If this delay is too long and you would
prefer a refund please let me know.

I said "no, that's fine." :D

last time i checked it was sayd that that is quite a possibility, most likely only postage or a very small price, non profit.

if its good i hope gp2x.de will stock them as well - the daveC cap i have always hits the left side, so i cant really press 'left' :/ so either i have to modify the cap all by myself or ima get one of these.

Probably an obvious suggestion, but have you tried rotating it 180 degrees?

It might be a slightly misdrilled hole coupled with a slightly misaligned joystick.

Hmm... this is the reply I got after ordering my GP2X earlier this week... it differs a little:

Due to the exceptionally high demand for the GP2X console we are now
temporarily out of stock for approximately 3/7 days. If this delay is
too long and you would prefer a refund please let me know.

Great, a new joystick cap. Woo, woo. Big whoop.

Ok, this will mean that the joystick performs better than the stock one, but this doesn't solve any issues with the stick not registering right (when the user has used the stick a lot), being iffy on registering left as opposed to diagonals, and a host of other problems users have been having.

I am all for improvements, and at least this means that people can use an improved cap, unless they already use DaveC's, for minimal cost; but it would have been far far better if GamePark had offered its customers a D-pad option (even if it cost a few quid, as an upgrade option) as this is really the best way forward.

Hay, I don't mind, I made my own D-pad (as per my thread); but the vast majority of users are still using the crappy joystick supplied.

A bit of an improvement, but not the "perfect one". I would be happier if GamePark offered its customers an official upgrade pack, comprising of a proper D-pad, with new front case (to house it) and very easy installation instructions.

If people have a need to do an upgrade, they will brave it. I remember opening my original GBA with trepidation to install the Afterburner (front light assembly) - that involved removing the motherboard and case, putting a new anti-glare cover on the LCD itself, placing a new light membrane, cutting part of the unit, wiring and soldering. I suggest, if GamePark bring out an "official" D-pad upgrade kit, and charge for it, many many people will buy one.

I don't care if it's official or not - but I do want a D-pad upgrade kit.

I seriously doubt these will be any better than DaveC's, but at least they're cheap enough to buy and throw away if they're no good :)
