New Firmware Soon!

I am hoping for MPEG-4 support, a couple seconds shaved off the startup time and no audio coming out of speakers when using TV out. Plus some magical improvement that makes the batteries last longer,

And maybe we can get rid of those scanlines ;P (What? I can still wish)

Craig / EvilDragon probably don't know much more than we do; GPH seems to be pretty mysterious about everything due to their difficulties in making things known in English.

As for all the input concerns; if usual USB HID devices are available in this kernel as they do appear to be (gamepads, mice, keyboards, joysticks) programs should be able to get at them through standard SDL conventions should work just fine-- I recall Paeryn implemented gamepads recently and AFAIK keyboards and mice should ALWAYS have been supported, although if they interoperate properly with whichever /dev/ files this kernel utilizes remains to be seen on my part. May be your usual /dev/input/mice or what have you.

Scanlines .. just cranking the LCD to 120hz (bar all the way to the left in the FW2.0.0 built-in LCD tweaker) should really be taking care of that for you. It sure does for me, on my MK1 'Second' edition and HydraLancer's MK1 First Edition.

I'm not sure what I'd hope for in a newer firmware; but I guess on my wishlist would be a removal of the obnoxious 100 Mhz setting in the menu and 200 Mhz setting when apps run so scripting wouldn't be necessary when running apps overclocked or underclocked that don't internally support it, fixes to the fucked-up interface in the video player that gets on my nerves, crash fixes to the Photo viewer, maybe a better menu entirely .. maybe correction for how USB Samba support likes to shit itself for no apparent reason and need to be de/re-enabled (Same for telnet sessions dropping out for unexplained reasons.)

Maybe the MMU hack should be proposed to GPH as a kernel module, if the idea can be gotten across to them effectively. They seemed to be listening when they implemented YafFS and rotated the stick.

Unlike the PSP owners who hear "firmware update" and start crying and moaning.

I don't think the gp2x particularly needs a firmware update. If they want to make one, that's fine I guess.

And remember, you can always down-grade to any version of the FW for the GP2X ... many folks still use 1.2 and earlier.

Ya, the only gripes I have is the music player shitting out at the 2 highest levels of audio. Other then that, its fine to me.

No major probs with the current firmware - maybe some fixes to the built-in apps - that's about it.
Obviously I'm not currently using it to its full potential (as it's my son's and he won't let me test it for him any more).

Well, it's probably just overdriving the speakers (overamplifying the signal..) which means the software shouldn't be LETTING you go that high. The maximum should just be decreased.

They should make a way to make the volume control NOT dependent on the software. That is one major flaw I see in the GP2X, and is a big factor in me not wanting to get one. If they fix that, I will be in the "might" stage. But either way, the headphone jack is on the freakin' TOP of the unit. Tell me, how do you guys live with that?

By putting it on the top or not using it ;)

Headphone jack never bothered me because of its position. The wire loops below the unit, up to my ears. Could'a been worse, at least it's not on the sides. :p

I hope in the new FW the boot time is faster...
and a faster way to go thought your music. other then one at a time down. takes awhile.
some of my videos freeze. hope that is fixed.

At least having them under software control means the buttons may be used for other things if required - I think that was a good idea - I like mame rotated 90 degrees sometimes :)

And as for the headphone jack being on the top - as TKF15H said, it's definitely not a problem with the cable looped under..

Also maybe consider using headphones with an inline volume control if you don't trust the 'soft' volume buttons.

These are some reasons why you don't wanna buy one? Very strange, but each to their own I guess.
