My Touch Screen Just Quit Working For No Reason!!!!

Kumaki, you mentioned that your OpenPandora model is a Rebirth edition. While you wait for Link`s response, could you try rebooting into the older/prior kernel 2.6.27, get into xfce desktop again and see if the situation changes/improves or not?

...Patnik.

I'm not taking anything apart!!

I don't have the skill for that sort of stuff, and I am not going to do it.  How would Link know, then, that it wasn't something I did?!?!?

Seriously, I just am not messing with taking it apart.  I really have not a clue what I'm doing!

I have no idea how to do that.

I don't even have the old firmware.

Besides, it was working just fine with the firmware I currently have,

I originally got it, it had Super Zaxxon 1.51 and the 3.2 Kernel, I think

Later, I upgradeed to Super Zaxxon 1.52 same Kernel.

Ever since I have owned it, (four months) the kernel never changed that I was aware of.

And it worked fine up till this morning.

Still have not yet heard from Link, getting a little worried.

I had the same problem with unresponsive touch screen,  followed the video and my problem went away , it's really not that hard just use the pause button and go slow ..

Really is worth a shot and is not that difficult..

I can't do it, Budweiser.  Seriously.  I am not skilled and totally don't want to take anything apart!!

Please don't ask me to do this....

For starters, I do not have the tools....second, I do not have the know-how.

Oh My Dear God....for shiggles I tried watching the first four minutes of the video....and within 15 seconds in, I knew if I even TRIED doing something like that I would foul things up worse than they already are and B, I would NEVER get it put back together right.

Hand me a hammer and nails and thou art a carpenter...NOT!!

All those little parts would break or fly away somewhere or I'd never get them back in right....no....no....and no freaking WAY am I doing surgery on my Pandy.

I have built desktop computers before, but THAT is a while different game and there are no really small parts in there.  Nope....seriously, this is not happening, not for a million bucks would I take apart my Pandy....just not gonna happen...

It is okay, just for future reference for you and anyone else wondering, as well as a reminder for myself, Original Pandoras 256MB 600Mhz ( CC board models from Texas company ) and Rebirth Pandoras 512MB 600Mhz ( GC board models from Germany ) units can be booted into the older kernel 2.6.27 upon reboot by holding or light tapping the R-Trigger button, then you get the screen with several options like "Default Boot" (for kernel 3.2, the current default) "Boot older kernel" (kernel 2.6.27), "CLI Mode Boot" etc. Then you choose an option with the "B" action button.

I believe that the 1GHz OpenPandora units do not support the old kernel. In any event, it was just for a bit of troubleshooting why I suggested you try it.

But since you said that you have been contacted by Link re. RMA details, then that is probably your best step in your personal situation.

Just bear a little patience while Link oversees the issue for you.

That is what I'm doing.

But I didjust now notice something odd....

When my Pandy is closed...the top part is not flush with the bottom part anymore.

On the right side it's flush, on the left side there's a hump in the top part makes it not flush with the bottom part when closed.

But I swear I did NOTHING to this thing...nothing.

I never dropped it jarred it, shook it, took it apart, anything.  It has been treated lovingly from the day I bought it.

It has never been exposed to extremes of heat or cold...nothing to explain this hump I'm noticing.

Don't panic :)

It's perfectly normal that the lid doesn't close 100% on the left side, as the hinge is just fixed on one side. There should be no visible hump in the cover though...

Are you sure, that all the clips on the top part, surrounding the screen are snapped in correctly?

I'm not.

But I never unsnapped them.

There IS a visible hump in the left side along the top of the screen, as mentioned above.

Incidentally, the mouse nub doesn't work, really, either....it moves the pointer, but only a fraction of an inch, and it bounces around the top of the screen, over and over...this is just weird.

But Link is supposed to get me an RMA tonight via email, so we'll see what happens then.

My touchscreen is not working.grit stuck in the bezel.the nubs still work fine. This may be all thats wrong with your unit.

Wasn't it once suggested to just press the bezel firmly inward ?

dunno what the bezel even IS???

And my nub isn't working right, either, anyway.
Try pressing the frame around the screen firmly inward around the 4 sides.

With your hands.

Also you can try to turn off the unit , boot it on again and while it is booting move the nubs around before you get the desktop....'The Nub Dance'.

No, this is not weird.

That's exactly why we asked above whether the mouse movement with the left nub works or not.

If it snaps back to the top, then it's either the top middle clip that sprang out (just clip it back in) or some piece of dirt in the top middle area.

The middle clip sounds a lot more likely though.

Just push the inner lid in the top middle back down and that's it.

Bezel

The Pandora's bezel is all the plastic around the screen

As others have said, that's a pretty strong indication that there is contact with the touchscreen on the rim in that area, which is preventing it from registering your stylus, and affecting the nub response - checking the bezel is clear of dirt and seated correctly in that place will almost certainly fix the issue.

I've been on the road most of the day.  Have to drive two hours to the nearest VA clinic.  I could drive to one an hour away, but they want me to have an appointment and aren't the best with customer service.

I'm guessing this hasn't been resolved and I"ll be emailing Kumaki RMA info.
