My Touch Screen Just Quit Working For No Reason!!!!

Nothing.

I was using an emu....and was trying to map keyboard buttons for a specific game, which I have done a thousand times before, and it just wasn't resonding to the touch screen as it always had.

I tried re-booting, no good,  I tried recalibrating touchscreen no good.  Nothing.

I can move around the desktop with the d-pad, of course, but the touch screen absolutely does nothing.

The emu I was working with is Beebem....but this did not cause the problem.  As I said, I have used touchsreen hundreds of times to map keys for a game on that emu with no trouble.

Incidentally, another weird thing happened with my Pandy last night, which might be related.

I went to bed, with about 25% power left, and plugged in to charge.  This was at 11PM Eastern.  I woke up around 7AM Eastern, as is my custom, which means it was on the charge for eight hours...and the things was still charging...and only up to 91% power.  which is totally not normal, it normally takes a fiull charge in about 3 hours.

Now I am down to 83% power, it seems to be eating power too quick.

Several reboots have not fixed this problem, and I even tried taking out the battery and putting it back in.

The only thing I haven't tried yet, which I will if you want me to...is to take out the battery and replace it with my spare, but I can't imagine THAT would have any effect either.

Anyway, I am freaking because my ReBirth is only four months old, this should NOT happen!!

I hate to use the generic reflash response to fixing it, but it would rule out a software bug or data corruption..

so perhaps reflashing to the latest firmware?

I'd also suggest a reflash.

Who knows, maybe the touchscreen config somehow got corrupted, or the driver file.

Of course it can also be hardware. If one touchscreen out of 2300 delivered units fails, that's nothing bad. Such things can always happen.

Well, I have the latest firmware already unzipped on my SD1 slot, let me try a re-flash.

I will report back.

EDIT:  Nope.  Reflash did not help.

Hm, then it seems there really is something broken.

If you're within the US, contacting Link would be the best idea.

Maybe some dirt or something is causing the touch screen to get "stuck"? Perhaps you could try removing the lid case plastic and putting it back on?

My CC unit has this issue, but I can see some mouse movement.. the cursor will jump a little when hitting the screen and jump back to the edge of the screen. Is it doing that?

I should fix it instead of just tracing my finger nail under the screen bezel and prying at it..

I can use the mouse nubs, that does move the arrow.  But no response to any touch screen.

I have already contacted Link, but not heard back.

But, he's on the West Coast, three hours behind me, so I'm not worried about this yet...the man needs to get up have his shower breakfast and coffee before dealling with this.  I'm sure he will get back to me shortly.

He lives in Vermont.. so not west coast.. or is he just currently in the west coast?

Did you check if maybe something is stuck behind the display bezel in a way that permanently triggers the touch screen?

She says she can move with the Nubs fine, if the touch screen was stuck it would interfere with that.

Hmm... not necessarily.

If it is outside of the touchscreen area, it might still lock up the touchscreen but won't send useful signals to the driver.
