My first impressions of the Pyra

Well this is the Tapatalk Signature, so when this is written under my Posts, it’s an IPhone, or the Android Tablet, although I plan to use only my Pyra from now on, it’s quite thought because the Pyra have to fire up to use it, while I have the IPhone allways on..
When Suspense or the Low Power mode on the Pyra is implement this may change..

Send from something, i guess ^^

I always thought you added that 'send from something, i guess' to take the mickey out of people that advertise tapatalk with every post. The benefit of the Pyra having a proper keyboard is you don't need anything more to help you make well phrased posts.

I just wanted to avoid the phrase that I „Send from my IPhone XR whit Tapatalk „
But I want to change the Signature on the Desktop Version, because it’s now „Send from my Pyra 28 (4G EU DC ) whit Firefox„ or something
I remember bevor i had the Pandora or a Smartphone, I posted whit the PSP and had to pick the characters whit the DPAD ^^

Not send from my Pyra, but my Pyra is also here whit me ^^

I was mostly just referring to some kind of notepad application. I think that some things such as e.g. type derivations are easier when written down than when typed down. Thus I like having a touch screen for that.
so you use a computer for math but not for computation just for jotting down equations. cool!

i am interested in symbolic computation combined with pretty type-setting and charts.

i use mathematica a lot which is good, but it's commercial / closed. there's https://www.wolfram.com/engine/ which would be cool but it's cli only afaik.

then there are all these python based notebooks which were all meh the last i checked. maybe they are better now.

Actually I use my computer for both of those but of those two jotting down math is the only one that I need a touch screen for.

Personally I like Octave a lot because of it's CLI interface (which I consider an advantage, I like CLIs) and because it's libre. But I'm not a very advanced user.

yeah i have gnu/octave on the zaurus - it's cool.
andrew ng recently turned me back on to it.

I made a Video where i compared the Pyra whit some other Devices and showed some Browser and Drastic Impact on the Systemmonitor
its in German

ah, the voice of an angel

i used Mathematica in college/university, and got a raspberry pi to use it for free from time to time.

i haven't tried Octave, but i've used pari-gp a bit and that's fun. syntax takes a bit of getting used to, though.

Today I tried to connect Bluetooth Headphones, or Headphones generell, and it worked quite good:
Whit the Bluetooth Manager it’s quite easy, and then only switch the output on the soundoptions to Matzes Airpots Pro, and voila: Drastic whit true wireless Sound,
Something I never got to work on Pandora, although the Pandora also had Bluetooth..

Not send from my Pyra, but my Pyra is also here whit me ^^

Working bluetooth out of the box is good. I have faced trouble getting bluetooth to work in some of my laptops. This is really good considering pyra has trouble with audio.

The only trouble I noticed is that it ditnt switch automatically between the Airpots and the Internal Speakers, but it’s just a few klicks,..
it’s not my first Bluetooth device I connect, the first was my Bluetooth Mouse.. and I have also a foldable Bluetooth Keyboard, but as it’s not illuminated, I don’t know if I should connect it, it’s wider but technically a downgrade ^^

Please let me get a noob question as well.
How I get any sign of life from the 4g modem ?
lsusb shows me two devices, sometimes just one:
Standard Microsystems Corp.
Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Modem Manager can't find such a device connected.

So I dont need it now, but I want to ensure that it's propper connected and I can use it, whe software is smooth running.
SIM is already inserted

And yes, I choosed EU mobile edition and have an IMEI label inside.

You might want to look here: https://pyra-handheld.com/boards/threads/pyra-mobile-broadband-performance.99310/

Only loopback and wlan0 as devices
:-/

As I undersand it, they are some steps further and talking about antenna specs.
So far I'm not able to read out anything in that direction
It never hurts to ask there as well, atc is the most knowledgable, Wally and elw3 might help you as well, they are the only ones I know that are actively trying the modem.

Yeah, I guess the modem might be turned off to begin with, so needs turning on, and the people in that thread surely know how to do that.
The thing Ive read on IRC is that aTc said that modemmanager should do the work, maybe there is a on button in there too? It should be accesable via the installed mate. Also after getting the pyra you should do an update / upgrade to get the latetst kernel/OS.

Update and upgrade were done often.

I will check the modem manager and will ask the guys then.

I'll keep you updated. Thank you for your support
