The file system on the SD card was definitely broken.
Thus I backed up my data, reformatted, and installed the brand new Pandora OS 1.6 (previously I had 1.5.a4).
This time, instead of EXT2, I choose EXT3 (+ journaled file system, less error-prone to power loss! - supposedly has more R/W access, "wearing out" the SD more quickly. But I hope for the best), and since then things work normal.
Hopefully the SD card is physically ok. Will know sooner or later.
In the event of negative changes, I will post here.
