I guess it depends on how trustworthy the licencees are.

Yep, it would have to include an NDA with all bells and whistles suing someone to death when violated. A random forumite would have to go through a complex approval procedure, most likely losing interest half way between.Pleng said:mali said:^Would this actually stop someone from producing a rip-off?

Silver tarnished. You'd be for ever polishing the darn thing. Come in handy as a pocket mirror for the ladies or any geek fops (if that's not an oxymoron).hobbyman II said:silver is £340 a kilo, at a guess you want about 100g-150g of (pure) silver, then you prolly alloy it with something else since pure silver is really soft, cost for metal somewhere between £34-£54, getting a silversmith to make it will be more expensive than the metal, but if you do it yourself? lots of people work with precious metals/gemstones for a hobby. Depends on which gold you want to use...may88 said:Silver tarnished. You'd be for ever polishing the darn thing. Come in handy as a pocket mirror for the ladies or any geek fops (if that's not an oxymoron).
Before I order. How much would a gold one be?

But it would take alot of work and I don't have the necessary skills.
Silver is about $16 per ounce. A solid silver case might cost you $100 or so, but an alloy would only be half or third of that. Silver, in the grand scheme of precious metals, is cheap.may88 said:Before I order. How much would a gold one be?

Gold is currently running at about $1100 per ounce. Think around $8000 for a solid gold case. Alloys would be useless. Even if only gold plated, you'd probably still need at least half an ounce to cover something as large as the Pandora. Unless you're made of money, real gold isn't a very cost effective decoration.
Oh, not an arm and a leg? That's a bargain!Vlynndar said:WizardStan said:Silver is about $16 per ounce. If you were made of the gold's worth of that money, then it would only cost you a hand or a foot!

wouldn't cutting the holes for the keyboard / smoothing them out be really hard?mali said:Fixedrabidpoobear said:mali is crazy
I'm handicraftsman to the bone It would be easy, but time-consuming.
ohhh, so you'd get rid of all buttons? or just the keyboard? I thought you meant a flip-around screen when you said tablet conversion.mali said:^The trick is to scrap the keyboard completely, thus "tablet conversion"
I thought about a swivel hinge MOD in 2008 and even collected the parts(I've got tons of junk in my workshop for those projects). I scrapped this idea, because of those many conductors on the LCD ribbon that would have to be replaced by special wires. We counted them back in the days, but I forgot how many.rabidpoobear said:ohhh, so you'd get rid of all buttons? or just the keyboard? The tablet conversion would just be built around the bare components. No controls, no speakers. I'd keep a power button, the headphone jack and the mini-USB.
For gaming I would create a gamepad "docking station". I'd buy a good USB gamepad, put in speakers and add a docking mechanism for the bare tablet unit.
The tablet could have a stainless steel screen cover. If properly built you could even throw it on the floor and step on it without
damaging it, I suppose.
