I just ordered a screen protector from Play-Asia, and for my five bucks american I got a cheap nasty piece of wobbly less than a mm thick sticky back plastic. Now, where the hell can I get a real screen protector to replace the one I put a small crack into?

Allan.

Welcome to the club. I ran into the exact same problem. Apparently what you, I, and many others consider to be the screen protector, gp32z and Play-Asia consider it to be the screen, and what we would consider a screen protector protector, they consider a screen protector.

It really bytes, I know. In fact, for that dinky little piece of plastic, gp32z charged me $10.99 for bottom of the line shipping. I tried emailing him several times with no response. Then, I tried calling him, explaining the situation, and he said he understood the situation and also thought the shipping to be too high. He said he would send me an email on how we should work this out; this was on Wednesday last week I believe, and I still have gotten no response.

Finally, I just said the hell with it. I bought a 5x7 sheet of plastic grazing at hobby lobby for $1.99 and even had the guy cut the plastic into two screen protectors using the original one as the template. I also bought a roll of double sided tape for $1.99. Then, I used acrylic paint on the edges to get the black bezel effect and it works fine now.

I dont understand why anyone refers to the plastic shield you have to install when you get your GP2X as a "screen protector". It's a REQUIRED item. if the original GBA shipped without it's own equivolent peice already installed it would be concidered defective or improperly packaged so I fail to understand why GOH would shit the units this way unless they personally where planning to sell glass shields... or hoping someone else would.

The vocabulary used in regards to these LCD shields needs to change because it's just not an accurate term.

"I dont understand why anyone refers to the plastic shield you have to install when you get your GP2X as a "screen protector"."

Well the lcd is the screen, so whatever offers it protection is the screen protector, right? This is why we refer to it as a screen protector: logic.

Noob question: Why can't the GP2Xs be shipped with the "screen protector" already on them?

I just cut my own out of glass. If anyone wants me to make them one, let me know and I'll try to get ahold of a larger piece of glass to cut them from, and some paint of the special type that sticks to glass.

I don't know which is sadder, your having thought of that and linked it, or my having watched the entire...damn....thing.

What is sad is I know where both the "song" came from and the little looping gif came from.

Pic from Azumanga Daioh (anime)....

yeah... *looks at my avatar...

You know, you could make quite a $$ doing this for say, $10 per screen ... you could become the DaveC of screen covers :) Heck, I'd buy one if it was as flush as the plastic one ...

I find the screen protector that came from gp32z.com to be good. There isn't anything wrong with it, mine infact is still in mint condition and I bring my 2x everywhere :)

No scratches on it, only smudges which are easy to remove. and its quite flexible. And makes the gp2x look real slick.
