Gpengine The Official Word - Anyone Know?

No, I haven't tried doing anything for the GP32 yet and I don't think it will happen anytime soon...
DS coming out now, still too many ideas and too little time for the GBA  B)
But I really hope someone finds the source usefull and inspiring when they do stuff on the GP32.

So you don't really like the GP32 very much, howcome? What is it about the GBA and DS that makes you only want to do stuff for those and not the GP32? It is too bad that you can't have your emus out on non Nintendo systems too as they are really good. I am sure us GP32 users would like your stuff alot. There are also a few things that would make your stuff nice on the GP32 like a bigger screen and widely available and less expensive media to hold ROMs.

Rlyeh is working on fZX right now, then Im guessing hell turn his attention to fMAME and fGen. Still, fPCE will come eventually else I wouldnt have done this!

PC engine would be great. I really could care less about ZX though. Hopefully he won't burn himself out on Speccy stuff and have enough time to do the good systems like PC engine, GBC, NES and even the holy grail of emus, MAME.

Is there anyone here who really wants a zx emulator? I know the more systems the better but i for one would much rather see more work done on the fXXX emulators.

Time.
Simple as that, if I had all the time I wanted I would probably have done something for the GP32 by now.
A machine with dedicated hardware is a bit more fun to explore too. (I guess that's why I never have coded on the PC as a hobby).

Bummer, I was hoping to have PC-Engine on a larger screen with the proper res. Oh well, good luck with the DS.

I just released PCEAdvance 7.0 with the new sound core. This is not to pimp my new emulator but point you to the source code, it mixes 6 channel with different stereo seperation on each to 2x8bit buffers, it can probably be rewritten to handle 16bit (because that is what the GP32 uses?). I think it uses less than 10% cpu on the GBA. I think this can be usefull for other emu projects as well.

It's absolutely insane what FluBBa has done with PCEadvance! I mean, this is a 17Mhz system with 256K RAM, and he's got CD ROM support working?! The sound is much improved. Speed is still an issue with many games tho, but some are quite playable even with sound now.

Can you imagine what a TG16 emu on the GP32 could REALLY do with enough dedication? Full speed CDRom, Super CD, SuperGrafx... GPengine was off to such a great start. *sigh*

Yes, I CAN imagine what a TG-16 emu would be like with those features. That is what hurts. Maybe Rlyeh will come through with something, I can hope...

How can this be possible that PCE emulation requires 525 Mhz to be full speed on PPC whereas it's smooth on a 16.7 Mhz GBA and full speed with fs0 at 166 Mhz on GP32?

There are so many ways to optimize code. :)

man it must be difficult to be a dev and come hanging around these boards - flattering 'cause everyone is like "you're a god, you'r e agod!" but also like walking into a den of hungry wolves, everyone is eyeing you and licking their lips "where are.. OUR.. emulators?" Ah well. they may be a little hungry, but at least it's evident people are trying harder to show restraint.

I don't care if we never see another PCE emu update on the GP32 - shit hell ya it would be great, but the one we already have is more than enough reason in itself just to own a GP32. Sure, I miss my Blazing Lazers (glitches out). Sure, I would like to play Legendary Axe wtihout the sound gettin gall fuxxor'd. Yeah, it would be cool to save the battery RPGs. But fuck it. There's enough games on that system that work straight away and play fast + clean enough.

Besides the PCE's "competition," Genesis is coming along pretty wonderfully, that's enough of a consolation for me (I NEVER tought we'd see it go beyond Zardoz' initial try)

Flubba, I think it's great what you've done for the GBA scene, and of course it's cool that you're even trolling these boards - I have no idea if you've got a GP32 even, but if you do I am sure you're enjoying it. If you want to stick with GBA/DS/etc for your projects, I don't think anyone can blame you. Hell, I think it's great that you're continuing with PCEAdvance at this point, I am going to see for myself what all the fuss is about. Thanks again!

(damn, that means I gotta lay off of Metal Slug GBA for a little while doesn't it..)

No It looks like there is little hope for any further PC-Engine developements any time soon. FluBBa is sticking with GBA, GPEngine source code was lost, and other coders are busy with other projects. It looks like it may be awhile.

I found this the other day. I know its not GPEngine, but the author of PceGP has sourcecode on his site...

Link is here

I've just tried the Beta 2 and it's actually pretty good. There's plenty of glitches and it's a bit slow but it'd be a good starting point if someone wanted to pick it up.
