GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

Yes according to their statement. Not sure whats weird about that, if it were USB 2.0 with a type C connector, that would be weird.
It sound weird to me because it sound strange that they (originally) would rather go with the USB2/MicroUSB combination instead of using a USB3MicroUSB combo > when a USB3 capable port (on the SoC) is there, why not use it from the get go?

Liitle more news from GPD the other day.

1) They have started a promotion in readiness for the mid - June Chinese crowdfunding. You can reserve your place for 1 yuan and get a 50 yuan discount when it goes live. At least that's what crappy translation is telling me. Looks like the Chinese crowdfunding price will be a little cheaper for the WIN. It will be 1799 yuan ie $274 . Here's the Taobao promotion page for the WIN -> https://world.taobao.com/item/53263...&spm=a1z10.5006-c.w25161-12508239259.1.q6M8rV

2) Also as a further promotion, in mid-June there will be available 60 staff assembled machines priced at 999yuan ($152) China only for both things mentioned

The plan is still for testers to get their GPD WIN's in June . And here's some random image of a GPD WIN techs desk:

After all that thinking, I will just buy a 3DS just for Pokémon.

Where did they suddenly get the USB3.0 support from? Adding USB3.0 to a smartphone-style SoC that didn't have the controller baked-in sounds fiddly and expensive.

There's a USB Type C 3.0 port and a USB Type A 3.0 port.

I think the SOC does support it. From memory it supports up to three USB 3.0 ports - could be wrong

As for the Japanese crowdfunding, I'm not sure why they put only 50 units up for grabs. It sold out in 12 hours. Now what.

Indiegogo contributions by country, looks like Japanese contributors were the majority by far

Erm no. This is Indiegogo, not the other Japanese crowdfund.

That's probably because they're the only ones that can read the campaign?

You just pissed off 1.5 billion people who would like a word with you to explain the difference between Chinese and Japanese :p

Jokes aside, Japan is where it got some coverage on (japanese) tech sites

I got the same message. That's just the recommended price. IMO sellers will sell it for is a lot less . If you have seen the usual markups geekbuying etc put on the XD, then you will be able to work out what the WIN will be ED. We both have the same info , so I know you can work that out.

By the way, Geeekbuying (and soon other sites ) have started preorders for the WIN, priced at $330 with free worldwide shipping -> http://www.geekbuying.com/item/GPD-...ss-Screen-1280-720-Type-C---Black-367872.html

It will probably go up once it launches, with the resellers magically providing heavy discount codes that make the price $330 . Then it will just end up that lower price - if not lower. It's the same dance over and over.

Well, as I know the distributors price, I know they can do it, as they don't have a lot of pre-costs for that.

However, in Europe, the price will be a lot closer to those 399 USD, as shipping costs from GPD to here are higher, VAT is being added, overall costs for running a business (incl. employees) is much higher, etc.
