GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

Well beside the performance benefits, the other reason HD was used instead of Full HD is the Solomon chip only handles rotation up to HD resolutions, but not at Full HD... The chip also has some scaling properties that may be handy as well.
Yes, and the only reason the rotator chip was needed is because things weren't going so well with the FHD display.

Seriously, even with the rotator chip being able to handle FullHD, I wouldn't have used it after seeing how small everything is. GIMP needed extra manual changes in the configuration files (simply choosing the largest icons still was too small), and many Linux programs simply ignore the DPI settings of the desktop (sadly).
I, and many others, appreciate that decision. It would have been nice to get 768 pixels vertically, but I am fine with what we have. It should be fine until a display more suitable to our use is made and affordable, if that ever happens.

Sell a million Pyras for current price, use the money to make custom parts next time: Epic Win.

I hope that isn't the name you are recommending. :p

I would be thrilled for ED if he sold a million. He could probably get any (ARM) SoC he wants, and, yeah, we probably could get a custom display.

Have you ever used Android on a 27'' screen? It's like a children's book slammed in your face.
Uhm, I guess nobody uses Android on a 27" screen. o_O
But it still does not hurt to have an OS that can scale on big and tiny screens like (evil, I know) Windows10 can for example. They had some interesting ideas with their "continuum" project actualy.

Hm, I don't have Android or any TV-Sticks, I'm to old-fashioned maybe. I've seen Apple TV on my Buddys 50" TV but that's a complete different calibre in every way. I also doubt you sit that close to a TV like you sit on a PC screen. And maybe Android is also scalable to some degree, otherwise this "Remix OS" would not existing.

When I posted that photo, I was going to mention the rotation and highlight that it was just their first power up of the board - ie don't make that much out of whats displayed

I suspect they are close to starting their Japan crowdfunding. A China crowdfunding will follow after that.

It seems GPD has closed off the InDemand option on Indiegogo. You now cannot get a GPD WIN on Indiegogo anymore. 1838 backers in all

They must have alot of capacity to run so much (useless?) Crowd funding campaigns...It really seems it's only marketing and not for the money. Let's hope they will spend so much effort into later maintaining and supporting their device and don't drop it like a hot potato after launch.

I wouldn't call it useless. It has it's purpose. Especially if you don't have the means to conduct pre-orders yourself or don't have a a front to the west.

It seems they decided to allow backing of the GPD WIN again on Indiegogo

Another Indiegogo update today:

Dear Backers.

Here is some new update for Mouse Mode:

1. When slide the switch button rightwards into the Mouse mode, the D-Pad,left stick, ABXY all can function as usual.
2. L1 and L2 are set as the left mouse button, R1, R2 are set to the right mouse button, It is convenient for long fingers player and who are used to click L2,R2.

That makes sense, it struck me as absolutely nuts to make the DPad & Buttons non functional by design in mouse mode for a device that is supposed to be used for Windows gaming & software.

The last big failure that needs to be fixed is the dpad/left nub that don't work as the arrow pad

Split keyboard would be logical but I guess they fear that design, it's not like split Keyboards are that common. I never used one but in that case I guess it would be a good solution to have such a design. Enough space would be there.

I grew up with a split keyboard and it's easier to handle imho since you got additional "borders" and every hand has its own clear number of keys. In fact, I should get one again.

I hacked together a quick split layout a few months ago that fixes the two biggest problems with their keyboard - the offcenter qwerty layour and the horrendous L3/R3 placement. It could certainly be prettier (you'd definitely want to rearrange the numlock numberpad keys so they're all on the same side), but it's a really solid starting point and infinitely better than what they're going with. I removed an entire column to account for their "we can't have 3 sections because the plastic covering the separations would be too thin" excuse. But honestly, they could make it one singular block of keys and not worry about those separating bits.

That would be the obvious improvement, but what it does is challenge the notion that this isnt a design.

As such, you now notice that its not good for two finger typing, whereas before it could easily be overlooked to be just an ordinary one, with implied 10-finger logic.

I hold it to be a 10finger board, because that _is_ the current design, and those are the games they are promoting.

It ids too small to work like a typical keyboard. It might work as a 10 finger board for a monkey or something else with small hands and fingers.
