Got displays, looking for keymats


I doubt you even get the keyboard dust-proof with that design. For a more rugged version there would be alot of redesign needed I guess. However, I'm sure it's possible and even compared cheap to seal the lid better when closed. Pandora had a big gap due bad injection molding. How about an surrounding rubber ring onto the lid that seals lid and the base better when the Pyra is closed?  :)

Rubber at the edges of the device would also improve the durability. Should be doable with an clamshell design and may even improve the haptics while holding the Handheld. Compared to that an average iPhone looks like it will break even from stare at it. XD

I'd really like an Otterbox Defender style case for the Pandora / Pyra (optional add on somehow). I have one for my Galaxy Note II, and a friend has one for his iPhone, and they make the phones darn rugged. Not waterproof, but you can toss them onto the ground or gravel etc without any damage to the phone at all.
 
It would be nice if you could at least get IP67 water resistance.
 
Only the last digit of the IP code refers to water resistance. IPx7 allows you to submerge the device in 1m of fresh water for half an hour, which IMO is a little excessive for a handheld computer. IPx3-IPx4 should make it pretty much rain-proof, but would probably need something done about the SD slots.


On the subject of the first number, that refers to the ingress of solid objects. If I'm reading it right, anything above IP2x would stop us having hacker-friendly accessible screws, the previously mentioned SD slots, and might even have something to say about the headphone socket, I dunno.


All that said, my Pandora got rained on today on the front edge (with both SD slots and the headphone port occupied) for about five minutes and it carried on rocking. That might make it theoretically IP23-compliant in those circumstances.
 
The main PCB


Nikolaus was mostly working on the display PCBs, so the progress on the main PCB was slower, as you can imagine.


It's still nearly finished - but that 'nearly' are the last percent that always need a lot longer than the rest.
I don't want to derail this but as you said the PCB is nearly done and I feel it's the last chance to ask you to consider this. (Edit: Being able to split the two pads of the space key by desoldering a connection and soldering another one and having an unused keycode for the other pad in the driver.)
No need to worry. There has always been a 0R resistor (0402 dimension) for exactly this purpose :) It can either connect both meanders to a single matrix position or add the meanders to different matrix positions.
Sometimes we can identify through our crystal ball what the community would like to have :)
This is good to hear, but can we also get an alternate case and keymat that have the space key split in two?
You can print one on your own.
One might be able to print an adiquate case top, but keymat? Not currently possible.

exactly what is forbidding pyra from being pushed back 6 months though?
 
I would really like some way to make the Pyra usable in Rain. If the Keyboard is rainproove then I can place some big foil in the lid so the gaps around the screen are closed. Same for the speakers. USB and SD ports won't be hurt in rain.
It's not impossible because look at the iPhones, they created waterproof cases for them. Not to mention that there are already mobile phones out there that are built to be waterproof. Actually I think I saw a lame commercial on youtube of a couple teenagers sharing pictures on their cellphones in a swimming pool :p that doesn't sound safe. I hope they don't forget to return to the surface for air ha jk.
