Here is Gods Deluxe, a remake of the game Gods of the Bitmap Brother.

preview1.png
The game is coded in Java (full sources in the PND if you are curious), but Fullscreen, in Java on the Pandora, doesn't seems to be fully supported (the screenshot are in windowed mode, but the Fullscreen mode is barelly better). Nothing I can do I'm afraid.

I have customized keys, so "Action" is {X}, and if you choose the "SHIFT" mode to Jump (default is Dpad-Up), then it's {B} to Jump.

I haven't ever heard of that game before but it does look like a cool game that came during the 16 bit era. I might give it a whirl.

One of the best games ever on the Amiga but pressing up for jump got me killed far too many times to make it really enjoyable.

Cheers for the port ptitSeb. I didn't even know that this had been re-made B)
I loved the intro music
Musics are missing from build 01 :( . Some windows <-> Linux capital letter has messed up the Intro music.

I'm preparing a Build 02, with intro music and a pack of music remixes for the standard levels (but the package will be much bigger, the remixes are MP3).

Yeah that tune's a classic. I always thought it said "Into the waterfall" though :D

Good to hear ptitSeb. Cheers for putting the extra effort into it and making it such a complete port.

The music will be the icing on the cake for me. This has always been a seriously addictive game. I'm blaming you for any time I waste from now on ;)

Coming soon on the repo ;) for a wooping 84Mo package full remixes.

And don't forget to try the many included level (in option screen), and the "jump not by up" mode too.

I only know it from an old Computer Magazine. They reviewed the Acorn Archimedes Version there, seems it was a good game back then that was ported to many systems.

New (huge) build on the repo.

Build 02

-----------

  • Added musics
  • fixed intro music
  • fixed level musics
Also note that there is many music that will play randomly in the Intro screen (most are remixes of the Gods Intro music)...

The size is due to the music. All music are MP3 except for the intro, which is a mod (but, the mod player, written in Java, as difficulties playing smoothly on the Pandora, that's a shame, but at least the MP3 plays well).

I have it downloaded, I haven't played it yet, but it looks kind of like a Castlevania game from the 16 bit era at a glance.

Nope, nothing to do with Castlevania. It plays very differently and your character has much more "weight". :)
So other words do you mean he falls hard? haha alright I will have to check it out.

Oh! I see now. Yeah you sure aren't kidding.

Oh, one of the best classic plattformers for homecomputers/pcs - thanks !

Found one problem but it's with the software itself not the port. Every now and again when your changing direction it seems to get itself stuck in a loop on one spot. It's happened a couple of times on the top platforms of stage 2.

Pressing a button for jump is much better. It confused me at first as you still need to push up and diagonal on the joypad at the same time though.

For anyone that hasn't played it before.. The level can change depending on the order that you flick the switches in. This can be very confusing when you first start playing as certain shortcuts or rooms aren't there all of the time. Just a heads up ;)

Hi,

I'm sorry to report that Gods doesn't work for me (Rebirth Pandora, latest SZ, OC @ 850 MHz):

Found java.pnd at /media/Pandora/pandora/menu/java.pnd
Attempting to execute jvm at /mnt/utmp/java/openjdk/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/java
Args are: -Djava.library.path=/mnt/utmp/gods/bin -classpath /mnt/utmp/gods/bin -DROOT_DIR=/mnt/utmp/gods -Xmx100m gods.game.GodsGame -full-screen
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: gods/sys/GameEngine : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0

[...]

Could not find the main class: gods.game.GodsGame. Program will exit.
And here is the output of "java -version":

java version "1.6.0_18"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.8) (6b18-1.8)
OpenJDK Zero VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode)
Would this PND be only compatible with Oracle Java ?

Cheers, Magic Sam

I have made some modification in the source code, I had to recompile a few classes. Maybe my JVM is too new? I'm not a Java specialist. The sources are in the PND, maybe you can try to recompile the classes using your JVC?
