Gizmondo...

shaddap about the screen already!!!! damn!  :D  :p

IT'S

NOT

THAT

SMALL!

Yeah it is.

Even the GP32 screen is a tad small after playing the PSP for awhile. I can live with the GP32 screen size but it is borderline, any smaller then meh!

well you all are spoiled then.

The Gizmondo screen is comparable in size to the DS screens, slightly larger than the regular GBA screen. No it's not as big as the GP. So what? I found it easy enough to play on, though it is a shame... the graphics this thing can pump out, it SHOULD have a larger screen.

I wouldn't say spoiled, really.. I only ever had a gameboy, gamegear, and now GP32. The gamegear screen is alright, but it's still pretty small compared to a GP32, and the gameboy screen is really bad... not only is it small, but it's not lit, and it has no color... I'm definitely not spoiled... I'm not saying that the system blows because it's screen is smaller than a GP32's, or that it's even a huge deal. I'm just saying, after playing a GP32, anything else that's smaller, even by like a milimeter, I notice right away, and I can't help myself from dwelling on that fact. Even if it had a big screen, I wouldn't buy it... they want like $400 for the damn thing. I've never even paid that much for a console... I'll be damned if I'm spending that on a handheld. Plus, until it becomes cracked(if it needs to be, and i'm sure it does), I won't buy one anyway. The main reason I bought the GP32 is because it can emulate my old favorites, so now I can finally play ANY(very few were ported to gameboy, and those that were just weren't the same... and they were hard to see) old NES game I want when I'm not at home, and the same goes for Sega(well, at least every game I've tried so far works, and I can't think of any others). The GP32 is a dream come true for me. Until I found out about it, I was looking around, considering a game theory admiral, GBA + Flash cartridge, pocket famicom, and even trying to build my own system from an NES case. The GP32 is a much better option because it can do much more than either of those things, and its media storage device holds more and takes up the least amount of space... I LOVE MY GP32!!

The screen isn't a huge deal, it just grabs my attention quickly and easily. It does have some more buttons than the GP32 though(enough to properly allocate an SNES controller's buttons... if you can program the ones at the top in emulators), and maybe with its extra power, it will be able to emulate SNES perfectly... if that happens, and they get a lot cheaper, I might buy one eventually(only if gamepark doesn't make another system first though)... but my GP32 will always have a special place in my house and my heart, no matter what happens, along with Chrono Trigger, Tobal 2, Brave Fencer Musashi, Seiken Densetsu 3, Zelda 3, and my MadCatz RetroCon.

Well I definately can agree on one thing you say about the Gizmondo... if it doesn't get cracked, it's not worth buying. It is very expensive, though unlike you I have payed small fortunes for many of the game systems I now own, handheld and home console, usually to pick up the import versions early. I'm very interested in the Gizmondo and am *hoping* that some dev people would take as much interest in it as me and commit to cracking it and working with it. I know we're not talking a unit with as much draw as a DS or PSP, so there will be a lot fewer people who will be willing to even bother with it... but... as long as it's FEWER and not NO ONE, then I think it could be a viable emu/homebrew system. So that's the real question... are ANY devvers even interested in this thing? So far, unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it :(

It is very powerful though, 400mhz, a seperate, powerful Nvidia GPU, plenty of buttons, and a just-right screen resolution (320x240 if I remember right?), and support for (dual!) SD card slots... a perfect emu machine.

Depending on what happens with the PSP emu scene and how quickly it develops, and when and IF a scene even develops for the Giz, I may end up getting one.

oh yeah... also, I'd consider paying maybe 300 or 350 for it if I knew I'd definitely use its extra features. I guess a GPS function can come in handy, and I wouldn't mind having my own digital camera, but it's primarily a gaming system, and that's what it'd be to me. But as long as the GP32 scene is still around(and if there's another gamepark system coming out... that'll be even better... I really hope they make another one because I love helping out the "underdog... not underdog, but... less known and praised," but I'm not gonna do it unless I feel the underdog is the underdog for any reason other than sucking), my needs are satisfied. I hope it gets good battery life... I don't really like those L and R buttons, but I'm sure I could get used to them just like I had to get used to the GP32's joystick. It would be nice if it had start and select buttons too. Then it would be PERFECT for SNES emulation as far as the controls are concerned.

on an unrelated note... I wish they hadn't reversed the GP32's start and select buttons from the norm... when I was messing with a friend's GBA SP the other day, trying out tony hawk 4(i've been curious about how good it was ever since I saw that it was actually on GBA. I guess if I were used to the controls, it would be just fine... as good as another tony hawk skating game CAN be), I found myself hitting select instead of start when it said to hit start... BAH! For some reason though, it hasn't messed me up with my PS2...

Cuz you notice that screen was stuffed
Deep in the games i´m playing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh, PSP I wanna get hot

it runs windows CE, and that's going to take up most of the resources, so if you were going to code a emulator for it, it would demand _alot_ more resources to the system, my old 1ghz celeron can't even properly emulate the n64, whereas the n64's cpu clocks around 93mhz. unless there was some way to hijack/overwrite/change the firmware, the gizmondo in my opinion will remain a worthless gadget that can't do much but wow your friends.

from what i've seen, the games are absolutely *horrible*, a lawn mower simulator, that one game where you jam a guitar and kill monsters, absolutely retarded ideas.

Worst of all, from what I have read online, there are two price points for the system. I think the one is $400 (maybe $500.. not sure), and if you pay that, you're good to go; you can do what you want with the system. BUT the other option is to pay a lower amount (again, I don't know the exact price) and agree to look at three advertisements each day. What the heck??? They said that they will do a survey or something, so the advertisements will be tuned something that you are interested in, but regardless, I won't want ads on MY console.

THAT is ridiculous.

It`s basically a 400mhz pocketpc with console controls and a 3d accelerator.

It`s the Zodiac of the pocketpc world, Just a few years too late.

Oh and the colours crap, I want a white one :p

That screen.

omg, ads on a fricken console? Are you kidding me? What kind of bullshit is that?

And if anyone doesn't believe me:

With 89 games due out this year alone, the only remaining issue is price. The Gizmondo will launch at two different price points on August 11: $229 and $399. If you choose the $229 price, you'll be asked to view at least three ads per day. You can choose to sign up for more ads per day, but this won't affect the price of the unit. When you first power up the device, you'll encounter a brief introductory screen where you'll be asked about your ad preferences, in addition to your likes and dislikes. And from then on, Tiger will try to send you targeted advertising. The ads will never interrupt what you're doing and will only show up when you go back to the home screen.

Yeah right!, Ah what the hell, Stick me down for a few more adverts, It`ll be more like a portable tv and they`ll probably be more interesting than the games anyway.

What gets me is how the fuck do they think they are going to sell this POS, And what market are they actually aiming it at.

Hypathetical senario:

Friend: Cool!, Whats that you got there ?.

Me: Oh, It`s my Jiz. :p

Friend: Is that like a Gameboy.

Me: NO!. <_<

Friend: Oh, What can it do ?.

Me: It can play games, Surf the net, Send messages, Take pictures, Watch movies etc etc.

Friend: Way cool!, Let`s play a game ?.

Me: Sure!, (Switching on Jiz)

Friend: Whats that ?.

Me: Oh!, It`s just an advert, It`ll be finished in a minute, I think.

Friend: WTF?, Forget it, I got my PSP with me anyway. And that screen`s way small.

Me: Come back!, The adverts finished now.

Haha, trooper... Well screw that, I take back any neutral and positive things I said about the Jiz, I'm not buying one of those if they're gonna charge 400 bucks or force you to watch advertisements... That's fricken ridiculous... It's a HANDHELD GAME for christ's sake... Advertisements in game systems now? Fuck that, we get enough of it elsewhere... Advertising does NOTHING to me. If I knew about something and didn't want it before seeing an ad, I'm not gonna want it after seeing the ad either. I'm so sick of advertisements... The last thing I will ever want is to have to watch 3 ads before being able to play a damn game every single time I turn the machine on. If I see anybody walking around with a Jizzmondo, I'm gonna steal it and blow the damn thing up with C4. And if anybody ever tries to tell me to get it, I'm gonna tell him/her to suck my balls. Whether you have to have the ads or not is irrelavent... the fact that there's a company out there that will actually consider doing that at all surprises the hell out of me. And just because they're doing it at all, I refuse to support them in any way. Ads on a gaming machine... that's the most retarded thing I've ever heard of. DEATH TO THE JIZZMONDO!!!!!!!!!

I don't think anyone can honestly say that advertising has no effect on them.

Oh yes I can... well, not absolutely NO effect, but it doesn't effect me in the way it's meant to... for example... most of the products out there that I see commercials for are fricken retarded... things that a lot of people would buy, but I never would... and seeing a commercial for those products leaves me thinking "omg, that's retarded"...which IS an effect... but what I meant was that no advertising ever makes me want to buy something unless I didn't already know it existed, and it seems worth buying to me on its own. If the commercial says "IT'S SUPER FUN! YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT HOW MUCH FUN YOU'LL HAVE WHILE USING THIS THING!" I just shrug that off. THAT has no effect on me... but if I look at what it is, what it does, and how much it costs, depending on what I think, I'll buy it... but the only reason the advertisement made me want to buy it is because I didn't know it existed before, not because the commercial made it seem cool with stupid buzzwords or any of that crap... And it's usually something that fills a niche... something I know I need, but I don't know that they make something for what I need. Then when I see it and find out exactly what it is and realize it's exactly what I needed, I buy it. I don't feel the urge to buy something because of an advertisement. know what I mean?

The GP32 is a perfect example. Ever since I was like 5, I've wanted to play my favorite NES games when I wasn't at home... I didn't know about anything that could do that until recently when i found out about the game theory admiral, game axe, and pocket famicom. Then I found out about GBA flash cartridges. THEN I found out about the GP32. Because it was something I already wanted and was looking for, I bought it. If I didn't want it, a commercial wouldn't have made me buy it.

You're obviously ignorant in the reasons for advertising

most advertising is not spose to get you to buy stuff straight away

its suposed to give association with brands, so if you were buying a computer, yu would remember that Dell advert you saw on TV and give them a look

everyone is suseptable to advertosing, you are not some super being that is not affected by them, they affect everyone

if all they wanted you to do is check out their stuff, they'd be like "hey! look at us, here we are!"

obviously they want you to buy stuff, that's the whole point of having a company in the first place. I never said I was a super being. You don't have to be to not be affected by advertising like that... I don't buy stuff from wal mart because I see their advertisements all the time, I buy stuff there because most of the stuff I buy really IS cheaper there than other places around here. Believe me, I've checked. I'm not the average stupid consumer. And I have no association with brands for any reason other than the fact that what they make or do is actually worth spending my money on... I don't see an ad for a chevy truck and then say "omg, chevy is teh awesome!" Most ads that I see make me a lot LESS likely to buy anything because they're so damn stupid. Stupid ads selling stupid products made by stupid companies = i'm not buying shit. and the only association I get then is "stay away from that stupid shit"

Nevermind... I'm sorry... Clearly, you know how my brain works so much better than I ever could. I mean hey, come on, it's only MY brain, what the fuck do I know about it or my personality? I guess I really do have tons of brand associations, but I just don't realize it, despite the fact that I never go specifically for a certain brand for ANYTHING unless I already know that it's good. I guess I impulsively buy shit cuz of ads too without noticing it. I haven't really been broke for the past 3 months. It just seemed like I was because I've been spending my money on useless shit because the ads made me do it! Indeed...
