Hi all,

Old school gamesbooks are great and cant wait to play them while laying on the coach with my new pandora.

I think others may(?) feel the same so here is a cool list for ya:

Acess via web browser:

all these keep track of your states, dice, etc for you

http://www.ffproject.com/

http://www.sryth.com/ci.php?f_c=members_join.inc&f_mmt=1

http://kindlelight.typepad.com/thats_swell/

And if you read Japanese:

http://page.freett.com/yaztromo/online.html

Others online

you need to keep track of your own stats

http://www.projectaon.org/en/Main/Home

in Japanese again

Interesting to note: The lone wolf project has some software development. (Links at the bottom of this page
http://www.projectaon.org/en/Main/Books )

One allows you to read/play games with a browser and the other is a software program for mac, windows, and linux.

I hope that there is enough intersted that development will continue and or be implmented for pandora, (if it cant already be done).

While this doesn't have a direct relation to the Pandora, it's great to see ideas of things to do with it. I've never seen these online versions of these cool books, but they sure beat the "click here, now here, now here, now invite 20 friends" games on Facebook.

Well, I hope to garner some interest regarding gamebook development on pandora. The lone wolf books have a lot of potential I think

There is a DS version of Lone Wolf: LoneWolfDS

It's quite nice. Maybe the author would be willing to port it.

I have played it, it is sweet! I dont think s/he has done much development on it in a long time though and cant imagine he would want to move it over to a less popular system. doesnt hurt to as I guess.

I would rather see a develpment of a browser based type gameplayer that can access the 20 or so plus oter lone wolf books that are avaible on the site

Hi,

I'm the guy behind "That's swell", http://kindlelight.typepad.com/thats_swell/ and I'm amazed to see my humble work listed besides the likes of Lonewolf. Thanks! :) , that has been sweet. I have no idea of what's Pandora is about, btw, just found this link, in my access stats. Anyway, I'd like to correct the opening post. I'm using a blog engine to run the game, typepad to be precise, and unfortunately, it does not " keep track of your states, dice, etc for you".

Well that's all, I don't expect to be around here much. If you have questions, I think it would be better that you comment directly on "That's swell".

Some other browser based games:

If you want Project Aon's Lone Wolf books on Pandora, Seventh Sense is by far the most impressive and well-featured playing aid software.

Its unique features include a "journal" system keeping track of everything you've done and a hall of fame on its website. I've asked the author about a Pandora version and while he's not a Linux guy he reckons it should run well enough. Sadly I'm no coder so all I can do is plug it in threads like this in the hopes someone will look into it. ;)

Website, source code etc is here: http://www.projectaon.org/staff/david/index.php

Ei guys! Thanks for the links, I'm enjoying them a lot!!

I have successfully compiled Seventh Sense on my Linux box. It's only dependencies are the SDL, with SDL-Image and SDL-Tiff, cURL and PhysicsFS (I had to compile and install PhysicsFS from source, since it requires a version (2.0) newer than whats available on the repos of my distro). So I think it will work easily on the Pandora.

As a side note, anyone knows if I can find these/similar books in French for online/with a software play?

I think the French Lone Wolf books are either still in print or the rights simply haven't reverted to the author, Joe Dever, so while equivalents of Project Aon exist for Spanish and Italian versions there is nothing in French.

EDIT: Except, that is, for this: http://chg96.free.fr/jeux/loup-solitaire/index.htm ;)

However, at least a few years ago there was a reasonably sized community of amateur authors writing French-language gamebooks for the internet, so it might be worth searching around.

Also check out this site run by one of the Project Aon guys: http://outspaced.fightingfantasy.org/

It's all in English, but there are a number of excellent reproductions of rare gamebook-related stuff.

Very cool. That seven sense sounds great for pandora.

One thing I havent been able to find on that site is does that soft support all the Lone Wolf books, or just a few (still work in progress)?

Thanks, great stuff ;) . I'm myself Spanish, but I'm learning French right now, and learning by playing is always a good idea. That's why, if there's no French, I stick to the English version. That way I can always improve my vocabulary here and there, not to mention that usually the English version is the original :)

At present, Seventh Sense covers the Kai series of books only (that's 1-5). However it is still being actively developed. The browser-based Statskeeper program found on the PA site isn't as slick, but works with more books. Check out the old version too, some people prefer it despite its relatively crude presentation.

For instance, I am a fan of the feature allowing you to output your action chart as a text file - very handy!

Almost forgot!

French versions of two "boss fights" - mini-adventures designed to flesh out noteworthy combats in the first two Lone Wolf books:

http://homepage.mac.com/siyanlis/Xhoromag/Tr10.htm

The English originals are hosted on the site belonging to the Project Aon volunteer I mentioned earlier.

Oh yeah, I remember those combats, because I played them yesterday :). Lone Wolf -> very bad books, they prevent you from doing anything useful for the day :D

A small note for anyone tempted by this thread to visit Project Aon: On the main page there is currently a login popup. Close that and click on the links on the page itself. This login is something to do with the Spanish section of the site temporarily being down. The English and Italian sections are unaffected.

I'm sure most of the people on these boards are entirely capable of working that out for themselves, but I thought I'd state the obvious.

By the way, if you have a DS and can read Japanese, Sword World 2.0 is a newly released Gamebook like lonewolf DS. It is very sweet.
