The legendary Reesy just ported Final Burn Alpha to the Caanoo: http://www.gp32x.de...showtopic=61911 While this is great news, I am hoping this may help one of our Pandora developers to take a swing at porting it to the Pandora. Enjoy the hoilidays!

What is FinalBurn Alpha?

An arcade emulator optimised for 68000 and Z80 based hardware.

Is it a MAME replacement?

No. MAME covers a wider range of hardware; FBA can be considered a specialist emu for a subset of arcade games.

What systems are supported?

Supported hardware includes CPS1, CPS2, CPS3, Psikyo, Taito, Kaneko 16, Neo Geo, Toaplan, Cave, Sega (system1, system16, system18, x board & y board, megadrive), and some others. There may be unsupported games within these hardware types.

Why is system support limited?

This port of FBA (known as FBA2X) is based on the source of the GP2X port, which means it's a snapshot of how FBA was circa 2007. dave18 has also added Sega support for this release. FBAnext, a more recent fork, supports a wider range of hardware. But this would need to be ported to Pandora from scratch (ie. it would be a separate project to this.)

Will FBA2X ever support more systems?

Perhaps, but there are no guarantees. Non-68000 systems like CPS3 would probably not run well if added.

The Capex frontend lists 900+ games; will they all work?

Not necessarily.

Which ROMset do I need?

ROMs for FBAnext (PS3) seem to work well. Grab this and read this.

Where do I get preview images for Capex?

Here. Thanks to jw11611 for the link.

DOWNLOAD:

  • dave18's PND with Capex frontend is in the repo.
  • crow_riot's latest beta is here. Unzip to SD, and double click 'fba.sh' to run. Now merged with the above.

I have tested in caanoo and the games run full speed some neo geo games don't run and it doesn't work with controllers.

Emulator is very good and works like a charm.

Damn, I didn't know Reesy was still in the scene. Him and Notaz are why the GP2X was so awesome.

I'm still waiting on the CPS2(Capex) from the GP2X to be ported over.

But this should run the same games and then some, so hopefully it can be brought over.

Edit:I just checked it out over in the other forums, and it looks like the same emu(at least the frontend anyways). Please bring this to Pandora ASAP!

I have this emulator on caanoo,it runs perfect, caanoo version is good as gp2x-f200.

Gp2x f200 had amazing emulators and they run so fine,if gp2x never existed and doubt we would ever had pandora and thanks to gp32 the original emulation console in the world.

I don't have a Caanoo to test this, but you may need the NeoGeo bios for those games to run.

Chris
i have installed bios and the only i got to work is aerofighters,i will try some more.

Final burn alpha looks amazing on caanoo screen,it suits so well like it was really made for this system from the start.

Now you might have an issue of "proper" roms to deal with. NeoGeo is like Mame, and certain emu's require a certain rom set(pain in the arse). If you got one game running, that means they all should work once you have the proper rom set.

Yeah, these games looked Fab on the GP2X, so I'm sure they look steller on the Caanoo. Hopefully we will see this on the Pandora very soon, as I'm sure these games will shine on there as well.

Chris

The best thing is, thet FBA runs perfectly at only 266MHz on the GP2X. :) I'm sure that a Pandora port would have no speed problems.

CPS2 and NeoGeo where just about apex of 2D games in arcades. They did have CPS3 and some other custom boards(for 2d) from Taito and others, but they came along near the end of standard arcades, so there aren't to many of those games to be missed.

The Pandora should be able to run these games with her eyes closed. NeoGeo already runs perfectly, I just need some low clock speed CPS2 emulation, and I'll be set. Dungeons & Dragons, and Alien Vs Predator, here I come.

this was the same for the psp port truth of the mater is this port is pretty lame the games it plays it does well but neogeo games more than 10 meg dont seam to work and the other games supported by the pc version ie 68ec020 games and sh2 based games also do not work. Not to sure if the gp2x version produced cache files for larger games maybe thats the problem.

Gp2x played many games.

I find it quite disappointing on caanoo because it doesn't hardly play any neo geo games apart from aero fighters and not all cps1,cps2 games work and others which don't work.

Cps1,2 never had problems this the first time i've seen fba emulator doing this, even beta on gp2x played more games than this but still it does play more than few games if not many.

It will get better with updates.

Gp2x was the best for fba but gph caanoo will win the crown at later time, caanoo is much powerful system and has much better features than gp2x f200. :D

Games look incredible on caanoo especially the fba games. :D
