Emulator brings x86 Linux apps to ARM devices

Have 2G Phone wifi (still on holidays) at the moment so I don't want to check the requirements for UT (really slow here).

How does it compare to
1: Rome Total War
2: Star Wars Empire at War
3: Age of Empires 3

Any chance to play any of the Games mentioned above on Pyra?

UT ran well on my 400 MHz P2 with tnt2 graphicscard.

I think the games you mention are in a different league.

I've played UT competitively on a P1 with software rendering, although not at 1080p.

I think I played it with 1024x768 resolution on this machine.

The original Unreal I played on a P1 133MHz with a PowerVR accelerator.

It was one of the first games (with Quake 2) that used it natively and supported the texture compression.

I was able to play in 800x600 then. Others with VooDoo cards only had 640x480.

Oh memories...

does the Pandora / its OS meet the mentioned requirements ?

Hardware requirements:
- ARMv7 instruction set with NEON and VFP32.

Software requirements:
- Ubuntu 12.04 or later
- binfmt_misc kernel module is required
- 3G/1G virtual memory split.

Ubuntu, no.
I know that there is no Ubuntu (except some early proof of concept, iirc) for the Pandora, but I guess they are not interested in the brand, but rely on some components that are included in Ubuntu version 12.04 and above - which someone (like notaz) may be able to recreate for the Pandora...or not.

I have Ubuntu 12.04 built for the omap5 dev board, but I have a newer build working so much better.. So it may be worth a go for me..

Lunixboxhs already built it on Pandora so ot should be possible.

mayve he can make a deal with them to distribute it as a paied pnd somehow.

It's more important it's softfp version (they don't specify which they sell), other dependencies we can take care of somehow..

The standard version is fully statically linked and does not even use libc. It works on the Pandora kernel, you just need to get creative and perform the installation by hand. I have only tried it inside a debian chroot, but the userland shouldn't matter at all because it's not linking to it. If someone buys it and wants help putting together some manual Pandora installation documentation, I can probably help.

I have both softfp and hardfp versions of the OpenGL version, but that won't be public for a while. There's plenty of work to do still, and I'm doing it using a CC Pandora as my test device because I haven't gotten an alucase + replacement LCD for my 1GHz yet.

Oh, that's good to know. Then it should work on anything supporting ARMv7 and proper kernel split, which even includes some of Android devices I guess. It's unclear why do they put Ubuntu into the requirements though.
How do they do licensing, do they try to tie it to the device or similar?

because their installation is through .deb files. I had success manually unpacking these files into the proper folders.
Ok that should i can and will buy it too next Days.

Sound good and is there a easy Manual or a complicated Manual Included?

Maybe it work fine under Slackware.

Did you tried it under the Pandora OS?

How big is the Download Size from the .deb Package? ;)

I extracted the .deb files on my PC, copied them to my SD card and symlinked them to pandora roof FS. It's relatively easy to get to the exagear prompt where "uname -a" says "i386". Next step is to put wine on top of this.

If I get it working before anyone else bothers to, I will e-mail exagear and ask them if we can have that stuff packaged in a PND (you still need the licence file to activate the installation, so it should be possible to have redistributable PND on the repo).

The .deb files themselves take about 150 MB of space, and around 600 MB once extracted. However, only a couple of symlinks, scripts and config files need to go to NAND.

Thx for Answers ;)

...will it work with GLSHIM or is an own Gles to GL Wrapper inside?

I cannot wait to play Descent 3 on the Pandora....

...maybe an old Dream come true for me ;)
