Devs Seem To Love Gp2x Already. :)

I do hope that craigx puts the videos and other pics up very soon to sustain peoples interest as with the now late october/early november -actual- availability of the Gp2x there will be those who will look elsewhere for their gaming needs(ie: the X-box360).
The GBA Micro will take a chunk from this community as well.
It simply comes down to how much money each of us has along with who can get the "in" product to the market shelves online or otherwise sooner as the holiday season approaches.
I live in the U.S. and have immeasurable patience so it doesn't bother me to wait till early to mid-november to get my hands on the Gp2x but I know some will play the waiting game to see how the emulation scene will be in the short run if the new handheld is slow to become available for purchase. :p
Joe.

Hanz & ratx,

Perhaps the two of you should refrain from visiting messageboards until you develop better social skills. Your boorish posts in this thread and others are the only thing "down hill" around here.
I wasn't saying this particular thread was a good example of the way the topics had gone down hill.
But when I thought about all the senseless arguements that had emerged from the GP2X - I realised alot had gone-down-hill.
So how was your bitch at me any less boorish than reading 1 word from me agreeing with Ratx?
Apology?

I noticed that too.

Also the guys that did Frodo and Atari 800 are chomping at the bit too.

Now only if the SNES team would come back for a bit ;) The PSP seems to have their hearts. Also Skeezix is huge on PSP now, hopefully there will be Castaway on the GP2X

Stop the fanboyism.. its starting to annoy me to heck.

So I bought a PSP.. so what?

You know I've got some 15 or more handhelds of various kinds over the years, right?

I'm fully intending on doing GP2x stuff, just as I've done GP32 stuff afte getting some half dozen Palm and Pocket PC units, a zodiac, and other gadgets.

Its only you that is jumping to conclusions on what I'll be doing.. making these assumptions.

We (in the GP scene) need peopke like you who are nitpicky, but turn your attention to the positive, and not always bringing everything down.. you're starting to sound like a 'fanboy' -- if itds gp32 its good, if its not gp32 its bad.. and these days I can almost hardly read your posts, knowing you're just going to trash something.. its depressing :(

(Don't take this wrong, but damn dude :)

2 points, although its not the place for this, GP2X etc has its own forum so just ignore it, personally I think the GP32 was becoming a little tired, the GP2X and the XGP have animated these forums becuase its new and exiting.

(Actually, for the record.. I'll get a gp2x as soon as I can. But its tough to keep on top of all these gadgets.. my wife will shoot me if I buy another gadget. I justify most as a writeoff since I do development for a living, but the gp2x is a tough sell.)

GPH can't give dev discounts, since half the GP32 community are devs.. but I wish they'd give me a dev discount.

Fanboyism? I have just made the observation that you are big on PSP now. As you say it may be tough to buy another gadget so Castaway on GP2x or a GP32 update is not certain, you may just decide to stick with PSP, maybe not, I don't know. What am I trashing? Sorry if that was too fanboyish, I wasn't trying to be.

I think he's refering to your "glass is half empty" style. Optimistically one would just say "he still posts here, he'll be back". You tend to say things like "he'll probably stick with someone else."

Bleh, I never said I had any problem with the GP2x, just get annoyed with people like DaveC constantly whinging.

First thing.. /me hugs DaveC

Seocnd thing.. I'm an extreeemely positive person; it just brings me down every time I check gp32x.de boards I see DaveC trashing something :) (Maybe I'm overperceiving it, but I don't think so, as everyone seems to note once in awhile that hes bitter.)

Third.. it just seems like always anything but the GP32 is being trashed; never saw a positive word from him about anything but the GP32 as long as I can recall.

Any time something new comes along, its 'what that thing can do to destroy my beloved gp32".

So thats where the fanboyism comes -- anything not gp32 is a threat _to the gp32_. Hence, theres no objectivity.

ie: On zodiacgamer/emuboards and here.. nothing can be trusted, since its pretty much always slanted.

So, furthering the thought -- no one can ever ask DaveC anything, because he will bend everything to the pro-gp32 "rose tinted glasses" outlook.

Others are often not so far bent over, and can even be balanced -- I like to think for instance that I can argue pro-gp32, pro-palm, pro-pocketpc, pro-NDS at leisure, as they're all good. (I'm rarely pro-Sony, since they're corporate assholes who've personally screwed me a half dozen times, as they've screwed everyone whose ever bought a Sony product :)

So .. where am I going?

All I'm asking for is.. DaveC -- can you try and be more balanced when comparing things? Or let people know your lean.. its unfair to diss something, and not tell someone you're always going to do that. (ie: Trashing the zodiac, the nds, the psp, the gba.. theres a pattern :)

In a personal opinion, you can always say "this and this and this, within the domain that you know I love the gp32 the most". But if someone asks you to compare and contrast, you should not say "well, that device sucks due to the screen", when really you should say "the screen sucks compared to the gp32 which I think is the best". At least once a week you present an unbalanced comparison I bet :)

ie: When making a 'review' or comparison, you have to reveal your slant.. or better yet, try not to have a slant. "Editorial lean" is an industry term.

Be objective. Be balanced. Reveal all points _imparitally_.

I suppose I'm just bneing a hardass, since I should always just assume everything you say has that lean, but it angers me since other people don't kow that when they see your posts.. it takes awhile to suss out. Yet time after time I see in various websites you giving advice wihch is completely slanted and misleading. Its terrible and disservice sometimes.

(Not all the time I'm sure, but all the posts of yours I remember are the evil ones :)

At the same time, I'm not trying to personally attack you.. maybe that one part of your online self just rubs me the wrong way. A community needs your passion, and you've personally helped a lot of gP32 folks I think.. since you're more informed than a lot of people.

Like someone said above.. you're the glass-half-empty guy.

But damn, it brings me down.

I don't know why I'm posting, except to say that over the months, I've gotten to the point I'm nearly afraid to read your posts, konwing you'll likely trash something :)

Maybe I should use the MB feature to go throgh your posts and see.. maybe I'm making somethign out of nothing and its 1 in 10 posts. But my gutt feeling is its 1 in 2 posts "I read" (the threads that interest me perhaps?)

At any rate, please don't be offended or hate my gutts, thats not my goal. (I don't know what my goal is, except it burns my nuts :)

I like DaveC. I think he's quite rationale, personally speaking.

I've seen him getting excited with GP2X just like everyone else, and it is the only console that he speaks highly of for the purpose GP2X is set out to do.

I believe him to be a voice of reason midst all our screams of excitment. Nothing sour to it. Just a bit honest.

Ok so I am a fanboi. I kind of admit it. I am mostly an emu whore too. Anything not emu friendly I may diss at times. But there are things I feel very strongly about like sharp 1:1 images and digital sticks for emulators etc, can't help it.

I have had many posts here that were positive but it is just human nature to remember the bad ones. I have had bad ones too yes, sometimes reality can be a bitch too. I may lash out at someone saying that they can't wait for the N64 emu on the GP2X because it is so dumb. I admit I will stirr up other system fanbois too :p I guess I am sorry if I pissed you off that is not the intention.

I have tried to help the scene as much as I could. I have donated to devs, helped with beta testing (because I am so damn picky I can find bugs or problems that many don't notice) Helped improve the contrast in stuff by informing many devs of the intensity bit, I even did a bunch of artwork for an unreleased game. I finished the art but the dev abandoned the project so you don't know of it. Plus I "spread the word" of GP32.

No, I don't hate you even when you flame me. You always seem to have class and you are basically a nice guy. So sorry about the fanboism ;)

For sure, its true; half the features in CaSTaway/GP32 exist because a few passionate folks bugged the hell out of me :)

Alright, no more to see here folks; PM's ;)

Well right now we are on opposite sides. You are a zodiac fanboi and I am a GP32 fanboi.

Someday this might change if you go to the "dark side" and get a GP2X even though it doesn't have a touchscreen ;) Then we will both be GP2X fanbois.

Peace.

Are there any Zodiac fanboys? I've not turned mine on in 6 months or more :/

I keep it because I'm supporting my zodiac apps, and because its a cool device.. so it'll be cool for my collection :p But since I have to move with more current devices, the Treo 650 and Axim X50v are all I carry now. GP32 is too big to carry (its big and white.. if it wqas black, maybe.. but it doesn't fit in pocket). PSP is a game machine so it stays at home, since I commute via driving (not in subway, bus etc).

But really, I'm equally pained by all devices; I'm not a fanboy for any of them, since I can rip a new arse or praise all of them, since every device has its place.

You might want to charge it. Li-ion batteries deteriorate with no charge in them. That is one of the thing I like about the GP32 is that you don't need to worry about the battery.

Ugh... same thing happens when you let a Li-ion battery run all the way down. Happened to my mp3 player, and that was not a fun thing to fix.

Double A's are one of many reasons why I favor the GP2X at the moment.

It's a pity that both processors use the same address and data bus (producing contention), but hopefully the caches on the processors will help with that.
This is a bad news.
Althought it would have increased the price, a *small* reserved memory for the second processor would have been nice.
The caches will surely help a bit, hopefully!
Let's hope they added some facilities on the PCB for eventually upgrading the memories.

Sincerely,

LDChen
