Davec For Guru

I wholeheartedly agree. Without his cap, my Gpx2 would be crap.

I agree. It is the only problem I have ever really had with the gp2x. Things that others have complained about (batteries, screen, boot times) haven't been an issue/haven't worried me. But the stock stick s*cked whilst Dave's replacement is fantastic.

And a bit of constructive critisism never hurt anyone

i tihnk he might be a bit too hard on people sometimes to be a guru - maybe locking topics and blasting users with modpowers unnecessarily in the future - but other than that, i think he would make a good guru.

You're confusing Moderator with Guru.

No, we're called things like 'gestapo'

Anyways, I PM'd Hando, and linked this topic, so it's all up to him ...

They provide us with great content for our systems, that's what they "do". They get a title for all their hard work (and donations, if the community so desires).

I vote yes, just based on his caps. He does get accused of complaining a lot, but he also has done his part to make things better.

I dont always agree with your point of views Dave, but we're all entitled to our opinions.

I vote yes, DaveC is exactly what a forum as hardcore optimistic as this one needs to keep everyone on the ground. Always makes good points(mostly pointing out flaws though :) ), always constructive, and most important, grammatically correct. Not even mentioning the caps. Yes, Guru please.

guru is a badge offered to people who know what they talk about and can be trusted,
or as well people who developed something great wich usaly includes the first thing.

I dont see davec as beeing a guru, it realy takes more than that, it would reduce the worthyness of the badge if davec would get it.

He could have some special badge, official gp2x ranter, naysayer and cap crip.

Or, better yet, create an award in his honor:

The DaveC Award -

For people who keep the optimists rationalized and machine useful bits of hardware.

His cap is something great. It has had a bigger impact on the GP2X scene than a lot of the applications some people have been guru'd for. It's not like he just made a mod and showed it off; he has made it available to everyone here. Sure, he gets some of his facts wrong sometimes, but guru status isn't an affirmation of perfection.

(He also came up with a joystick settings chart and LCD test image, and initated a dialog with Squidge that lead to a transparency hack)

His cap is just an example of what a good job you can do if you choose to replace the cap. It's popular because a lot of people don't want to do do that sort of thing. Good on him for providing that service, but it's no innovation.

Are you implying that he does not know what he is talking about and cannot be trusted? Are you saying he hasn't developed something great?
Even if you take away the Cap, you still have oodles of other things he has done for the community.
- Disecting the Joystick assembly and making suggestions (that went to GPH for consideration in future releases) as to how to improve its function.
- Creating a diagram to help unify joystick use across the platform.
- Creating an improved LCD image to help users with tweaking
- offering no holds barred evaluation of the emulator's we have, helping to drive improvement.

He is blunt, but he is fair. While there have been a few times he ticked me off - Talking smack about a really decent NES emulator when it was first released, and complaining about battery life when he was just using a cheap pair of rechargables. For the most part, he adds alot more to the community than he takes from it.
