Craigix Discloses Information On New Gp2x?

Well, since all we have are speculation and rumor, let's try to guess which SoC it's based on!

The aforementioned MMSP2+ is probably a contender. Dual CPU (360 and 300 mhz arm9), 1 million polygon/sec 3d accelerator. The dual-processor thing was pretty much a bust for the gp2x, but sticking with a known SoC family might be important to the secret cabal producing this unit.

Texas Instruments family, for example:
OMAP2420 -- 330MHz arm11, 2 million polygon/sec accelerator, 5MB internal SRAM.

Samsung? Like the s3c2460? 266mhz arm9, maybe 500,000 polygons/sec (probably outdated)

Freescale i.mx31? This would probably be my pick (not that I'm a huge expert). Arm11 running at 500MHz, 1 million polygon/sec 3d accelerator.

Other options?

I would love it to be the i.mx31. I looked into that SoC a while ago and it looked perfect. One faster core is probably better than two weaker ones as with the GP2x. Which I suppose has 1 weaker one and 1 crippled weaker one.

500Mhz? That must be some pumped-up battery to last 8-10 hours!

GP3Q is a code-name, right? If not, it's going to win the geekiest-console-name-I've-ever-heard contest again...

I don't know if this has been mentioned previously; how about an expansion port? I believe a lot of features mentioned previously could be included as accessory cartridges (wifi antenna+chipset, gps, motion detector, etc). I believe providing an expansion port would extend the longevity of the console, and also give 3rd party developers scope for a bit of hardware creativity.

I think would make good business sense too, lowering production costs of the system and allowing those of us with more money to pig out on accessories (me me me!). Look what happened with the NDS, who would've thought it would end up with light/motion sensor cartridges? There's no reason to for creativity to be limited to software.

EDIT: deleted quote

I don't know much about the ARM11's, but an ARM9 with Jazelle would be pretty nice. I know there are a lot of people around here who dislike Java quite a bit, but good Java performance could open up the device to a lot of homebrewers and expand the scene quite a bit.

Edit: Looks like the chipset Dzz likes has it. Neat.

If it's the 500Mhz SoC then it should be called "GP-500" or "GP500".

So, back to dreamland, 500Mhz and 128MB RAM would do wonders for MAME. :)

i think there's an arm11 with jazelle. i certainly wouldn't mind java, i mean what harm would it do to have a chip that's java enabled? it'll just broaden the horizon, so to speak.

It doesn't seem to be developed by GP or GPH so I doubt it'll be called GP-anything.

big surprise to me, no kidding?
