CraigIX, only you can fulfill the prophecy of old! Girl gelflings can fly!

Please? :D

Seriously, though... give us some teasers. Partial hardware redesign? Mere firmware update?! Dpad?!?!?!

EDIT (08/08/07) - I've moved my X3X Info List here, so that new readers can find it easier. I will update as new information becomes available.

EDIT (08/11/07) - Most recent update.

Yes, an entirely new... dpad!

(Well, thing you stick on top of your current stick anyway!)

or maybe not, what do I know :p

:D

So will the next thing be a Mark 3 or a GP3X?

It would be sad to see the GP2X fade after only 2 years.

Even if there was a such thing we could still use the current GP2X.

The GP2X is a good all around form factor and is very versitile. The screen aspect matches emus nice, the button layout is pretty comfortable, it can easily be rotated to portrait mode to match the 100s of arcade games and still be comfortable. It uses easily obtainable batteries that you can always get cheaply etc. Since many companies like GPH give in to fads and peer pressure they may stick us with some emu unfriendly widescreen thing with hard to get custom batteries for all we know. There always seems to be a "gotcha" with these things. There never seems to be a single handheld that gets all of the parameters right. They always seem to have some nice features but then blow it somewhere. The Gp2X is not perfect but is one of the closest in many ways. The Gp2X could be the last of its kind.

What we know so far:

D-pad
3d Capabilities, eats PSPs for breakfast.
Backwards compatible with Gp2x.
Craigx is getting a big kick out of all this, and could be really pulling our leg. ;)

Anything I'm missing??

Hmm... this kinda worries me. I'd rather do away with the stick entirely with it's dead-zone and all. I hope Gamepark Holdings is listening when I say: nothing is more precise than a true D-pad!

But this would mean the entire current-GP2X community will be left in the dust after just 2 years of existence, just when things are starting to mature. Backwards compatibility or not, everyone who has the opportunity would use the new more powerful hardware, and disregard the GP2X's lower specs :-/

Let it just be a MK3 with better controls/screen/etc., and keep the performance improvements for the GP3X in late 2008!

I agree with Alex, I will be disappointed if the GP2X is replaced so soon. Two years is way too short of a life cycle. A GP2X SP type dealie would be pretty nice, though.

dont worry, if you look craddle release delay ... we cant see anything from them before 2008 (middle :D )

otherwise build a mk3 or build a new compatible handheld ... it's the same thing. It just some options to add in your program to enable or not the new functionality. Or dev only for gp2x and it will work on the new unit.

The biggest error they can do, it's build new uncompatible handheld (I know they can do that :D )

MMSP2+ ;)

All these rumours could affect current/future gp2x sales.. :(
Not a wise move?
Yeah sounds like a bad idea to me too. It would be best to clam up until about a month or so before anything is released.

Still the way things are if anything did come I would not expect it for about a year by my guess. It was pretty long with the Gp2X between the time we saw the working prototype board running GBC and a unit you could buy. We have not seen anything in the way of anything like new hardware here, just alot of blabbering. I have not heard of any D-pads being made either, which is dumb. They should at least do that if they do anything. I gave Craig my D-pad mod and begged him to make GPH steal the design from me. GPH did nothing
