COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

At least i should calm down a bit now that im fully vaccinated, today there where standing two man for the backer store smoking, and i ditnt want to come to near to enter the store , then they went away, and i was able to enter whitout the danger to be too near..

the big advantage of the Mandatory masks is that its dosnt mather when im not shaved like today ^^

Of course we all hope it will be over by then but if the 1917/18 pandemic is anything to go by, one should expect it to last until ~2025...maybe it won’t seem that way across the World but almost certainly some parts will see unrelenting epidemic-like conditions.
I don't know how good that parallel is. BAck in 1918 we didn't have vaccines for the flu, but we (or some of us) have something beter or worse for COVID-19. But back in 1918 there was less international travel.
The pandemic was over in some places. In NZ noone killed nobody because of masks, because they haven't been wearing a mask most of these months. They closed the country and had short and hard lockdowns and lived normally without COVID-19 for most of the time. They now have a "big" outbreak than we in Europe wouldn't even notice.
With the policies in Europe that pretend to save tourism and restauration and all sort of business by farming the virus and hoping on vaccines only (basically protecting the freedom to consume over the freedom to decide about your own health), we may have COVID-19
for many years. We may eventually get natural immunity, or find better treatments or better vaccines, but what I'm seeing in Europe is bigger outbreaks this year than the year before. They say mortality is lower with vaccines (fewer deaths / infected) but there are so many infected because of lack of lockdowns and travel restrictions than we end up with more deaths anyway, even when most people got vaccines (I'd like to crunch the data but I don't have time or compute power right here and now). And it's not even a sole crazy politician, it's more or less what european society wants, so it'll likely stay so.
That politician that said it'll be over next spring is just saying what people want to hear a couple of days before an election. Next spring he'll say he wasn't counting on the mu variant or the vaccine protection span, or whatever, and that nobody could know.
Don’t forget that something like 75% of the vaccine distribution has been in < 20 countries and places like Zimbabwe are still really struggling, potentially even more so than they were in 2020 because countries are opening up and travel is allowing variants to spread.
That's very true and does not seem to improve. But look at EU itself, it's nowhere near solved. And we're starting to give 3rd doses in the EU instead of 1st doses in Africa. We'll never solve it this way.

A beard causes the Mask to be not that thight fit, so it not that save whit lots of hear on your face..
usually i shave when the hear under my nose are anoying ^^ ..

I think im quite save, allthough the vaccination isnt that powerfull,

Like the German Punk Band (or German Rock now) "Die Ärzte" sayd in one of there new songs on the CD they just brought out today (Dunkel) "Menschen sind für Menschen nicht gemacht" (Humans are not made for Humans), .. I have to listen a lot more on the CD to remember every lyric but i think they right..
He he ... Die Ärzte. Their album "Planet Punk" from 1995 is pretty good pop punk. I'm going to listen to it today.

I do see that there is a difference in time. Before there were a lot of people without immunity, not wearing a mask would certainly increase covid cases.
Now a lot of people do have immunity, so they're less likely to get covid. People that already had covid probably not get it again soon.
So between the start of the pandemic and now is a big difference in non-mask wearers. They can still be breaking a law if masks are mandated and they willfully not comply.
I could imagine that someone that never was wearing a mark, got and recovered from covid, is not going to wear a mask. And science would prove him right.
But as we can't see who has covid, you expect/hope everyone complies if a mask mandate is in place.
But I wouldn't be afraid of non-mask wearing people, unless I try to force them to comply with something they probably disagree with.

People with some immunity still get similar viral loads than people without immunity, just fewer symptoms. So they are less likely to know they have any viral load when they do and somewhat less likely to isolate or take precautions. I'm not convinced that they are less contagious than people with immunity, but they might. But less contagious is still contagious. Masks don't bite.

And rules are only useful when followed. Are we going to say that good drivers can drive a little drunk ? No. Don't try to be smarter than the virus, the virus has proved to be smarter than us. It evolved to be orders of magnitude more contagious. Its evolution is possibly more than any decrease in infectiousness of "immune" people.

Oh man, there's a variant with a steady foothold of 0.3% to 0.4% in the US called B.1.1.194, but I can't find any info on it, other than one page that claims that two-thirds of worldwide cases of it have been found in the UK, so it must have an even more steady foothold there. I wish there were an official site for tracking all the variants, not just the ones named by the WHO.

Edit: I found a site which may or may not be credible, but has info on B.1.1.194. Apparently it's been around since the start of the pandemic, so it's probably not one to worry much about.

There's a lot of variants listed here, but I don't see B.1.1.194 listed there. I'll just point out that less the 0.5% of US cases means that even if 66% of worldwide cases are in the UK it's still small fry compared to the major variants.

My point wasn't that masks are pointless, my point was that people shouldn't have a unrational fear for unmasked people. You'll not instantly die if you're near them.

and places like Zimbabwe are still really struggling,
Really?

Population is 15M
with 5 thousand deaths

In NL Population is 17M
with 18 thousand deaths

So let's say for the sake of argument,

UK Population 68M
And 135 thousand deaths

So: 68/135=15/x solve for x=30

So Zimbabwe is 6 times better off than UK.

You did put on a mask before posting your message, right?

About the masks: there are masks that work, like the n95 and n97. In the Netherlands they made them illegal to buy for consumers. (out of fear that the medical world would have none). They sold us masks that did not work and were assembled in unhygienic conditions. Contained cotton with residual pesticides, etc.
Studies show that farts contain a very concentrated amount of airborne covid. But nobody could sell me a buttmasks!

I'm on the other spectrum, I believe more in (put's on tinfoil hat):

The 24-09-2021 at 24.00 hours Netherlands goes officially into segregation. Those that have the QR code and those that don't. They've learned from the past. In the past, they put something on unwanted people (negative reinforcement). Now they give something to wanted people (positive reinforcement). Half full - Half empty? Potato - Potato? Perhaps...

And if you have spare computer cycles:

You’re assuming that the “official” figures reported are an accurate representation of the situation on the ground (which is not the case for either UK or Zimbabwe...). Also the vaccination rate in the latter is nowhere near as high. Anecdotally, friends there have lost a *lot* of relatives to Covid-19 over the past two months.

Yeah, looked pretty nasty in Zim in July, but then shortly afterwards both the cases figure and deaths dropped off as rapidly as they'd risen. What I noticed is that there doesn't seem to be the same few weeks lag between the case and death stats that we have in the UK, but perhaps that's indicative of the lack of healthcare people preserving your life for as long as possible there.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. Also here in NL they do not want to register or keep good tabs of. To the point our temporal minister makes up figures (and gets caught) because there aren't any.
Sorry for your loss.

I just had a thought, albeit a speculative one. The study I just posted mentions that the lateral orbitofrontal cortex is one of the two brain regions most affected by COVID-19 shrinkage. I wonder if this accounts for some of the rise in violence during the pandemic, as this region is involved in decision making, and problems with it are linked to a lot of psychiatric disorders.

Interesting.

Conspiracy time! Let's see...

it is being found that areas of the orbitofrontal cortex are activated by pleasant touch, by painful touch, by taste, by smell, and by more abstract reinforcers such as winning or losing money.
So post-covid we do not react to losing money.... "you will own nothing and be happy"....

That's exactly where the mark of the beast will be... so we shrink it, to make room for it. Brilliant. ;P

It seems one hospital in one day, had only vaccinated covid patients in their ICU.

There was a QR processing problem in Nijmegen. Everyone had to wait to have drinks:

Probably not a problem decoding a QR code, that can be done entirely offline and normally returns a web address for your browser to load. That server the address was on might have been down for example, but the QR decoding to a web address should have gone through just fine.
