People have had trouble distinguishing between flu and covid-19 since long before the vaccines were available. In fact, many unvaccinated people have trouble distinguishing between being healthy and covid-19. I have often been told that I need the vaccinations because I might be spreading covid-19 without knowing it due to the possibility of me having asymptomatic covid-19. Yet I am also told that I need the vaccines in order to make covid-19 asymptomatic. So preventing asymptomatic covid-19 is the reason that I need the vaccine but making covid-19 asymptomatic is also the reason that I need the vaccine.
Besides, the flu can kill. I would much rather get long covid than being killed by the flu. The flu can also last multiple weeks and can be horrendous non-stop torture. The flu can be pretty terrible. But you do not focus on that because your world-view is based on the news.
I sometimes mention ISIS as an example of this phenomenon (though in the future when the MSM stops mentioning covid-19 I might switch to using covid-19 as an example). When propaganda about ISIS was repeated on the news every day, people cared about ISIS and were often talking about ISIS. But when the news stopped mentioning ISIS, ISIS suddenly became nothing to those people and they stopped thinking about ISIS. But nothing changed except that the news stopped talking about ISIS. Nothing in real life changed for those people. So all along their worldview was shaped by the news they watched and not by real life.
This is how it works with every issue. How much people care about covid-19, ISIS, anthropogenic global warming, future oil supplies, Muslims abusing women, etc is directly proportional to how often the news covers it. The people who make the news have the power to control what it is that society thinks about and how they think about it.
Watching the news is a waste of time. Did the MSM ever advice people to buy Bitcoin back when it could make them rich? Did it warn for the upcoming Orwellian regime? Did it tell people to prep for the upcoming scarcity of supplies? No, no, and no. People who's worldview is shaped by the MSM are always a few steps behind. People could have been rich, unaffected by the high prices, and prepared for the lock-downs if only they had spent less time watching propaganda and more time watching the world.
