hum, I remember having seen some painted test case, isn't this picture one of theses old model? or is it really the new model?

i would love something like this for the pandora to control music and whatever else can be made to work on the go

I agree. I plan on using my panda while riding my bike to Uni, so I would love to be able to have the ability to skip songs. However it just means I have to make a play list that I'm willing to put up with for an hour.

[by bike, I mean motorbike, so pulling out my panda and changing songs is kinda out of the question. i'm not cool enough to ride my pushie to uni xD]

Any news on the upgrade for the Circuit-Co pandoras? The one where you Send in your 256MB pandora + ~ $200 and get a 512 MB unit.

Would love to get my hands on one of the new boards.

Maybe after people who've been waiting 2+ years get their first system? You're cannibalizing a new system with that, an extra $200 or not. The board/chip is the bottleneck for the entire operation at this point. Why don't you try being happy with what you have, considering you'd only see a marginal improvement with 256 more ram.

I am sorry I offended you in some way, I was not demanding an upgrade or for anyone to wait longer. I was just looking for information.

Actually its the other way around. Keep in mind that with every batch of pandoras produced, a certain percentage go to new orders. If ED can find time to implement this scheme, then the upgraded units would come out of the 'new order' allowance, so it would not slow down the original order queue. Also the money made from selling the refurbished units would allow him to increase the percentage of each batch that is used to fulfill the older orders. In short, it may help those waiting 2+ years get their pandora faster.

It's not surprising you'd take that stance considering you have your system too and I've seen you posting about having various minor issues with it. No doubt you'd like to create an upgrade system too so you can get a newer system that benefits from the lessons OPT has learned while justifying it away with your logic. The new system is apparently $400+. So you want to get a new board, a new system, for $200 more, which of course delays an older preorderer getting their system by one unit, and then want to suggest that OPT being able to sell your refurb unit for 300 or so bucks, which of course is a unit that an old preorderer could also never get, is going to solve the wait for us?

It won't. I confess, I'm far less concerned with OPT running out of money and having to shut it down. If that happens and I don't get my system, we all know exactly how mismanaged the project was and why it happened. I can live with that.

But having to sit back and watch people leapfrog me because they're spending their money now, or opting to spend more money, and then validating the mentality that the only way any of us SHOULD be able to get our systems is to fork over more cash (because woe is OPT they blundered every step of the manufacturing process), is absolutely maddening. Two E3s ago I figured I'd be sitting in meetings with journalists with the thing out on the desk getting questions and showing it off. Another E3, a third E3, is about to come and go, and no f***ing system.

You seem to be contributing to the dev community so don't take my ire personally, I'm just miffed at this wait. But maybe you really should just consider paying full price for a new one instead of trying to weasel your way into an "upgrade."

This isn't official, but it's likely, we will be looking for people who want to upgrade to the 1Ghz+ chip. This will involve you sending your unit to us to have the board swapped for the new one.

We will keep your old board.

This will cost around the same price as a new unit, however due to the new nature of the 1Ghz+ test board we will offer closer support and a new forum section. You must be aware that you're essentially beta testing the newer board too.

That's probably the only 'upgrade' option which will be available. Please don't start a new thread about this, it isn't ready for that yet.

I have no need to upgrade at all actually, and for what it's worth I already have paid in full for one of the new units.

My stance is based entirely on having read ED's business plan and news posts.

I never said that selling refurb units was going to solve the wait, I said it would allow an increase in the percentage of units that go to the original pre-orderers - this may make the wait slightly shorter. My point was that simply that given the way the allocation of units works, your order would not be delayed any more than it already has been simply because someone else had ordered one of the german built units as an upgrade.

So if I wait a while before expediting my current pandora pre-order I can get the new faster chip + the new case colour.would i have to pay extra for the new chip or what?Would it create any compatability issues with current software? This sounds pretty cool.
