A Lot Of Pnd's Run Only Once

This is a bit of a crosspost from gp32x.de, but I don't know if I should post it here or there.


I'm having a weird problem.


When I have a pnd, it runs once fine. For instance, chromium. If I close it, and try to run it again, it fails. If I remove the chromium dir from appdata, it runs fine again. The problem isn't 100% consistent, sometimes it does work fine a second time.


I have a recorded case with Gargoyle, where I saved the output of dmesg & pndrun:

I already formatted it with the panasonic formatter.


Is my SD bad? Does anybody have the same problems? Anybody got any clues? It's not my pandora, as I had it with my first one, as well as with my replacement.

Very odd; it seems evident that the app is not mounted (ie: no ./run.sh is found, and above that the bit ("wrong fs type") etc.


But how could it be that it mounts once, but not subsequently? Could be a lot of weird little things, but yeah ..


I'd try a fresh reboot, and try putting gargoyle on a fresh other SD card, and see if all is well, then plug in your investigating SD, and se eif the problem exists. That woudl poitn stringly to the SD being funky, somehow.

You got a write error on the SD card. Try a different card, or try putting the card in the other SD slot.
 
Apaprently she did not have a solution, beyond hitting it with a stick a few times and ignoring nesemu :)


Seems like corrupted SD or something to me :/

I have a problem with pnds that doesn't unmount when you exit the program. Precisely the ones I did :D (powder, triplane, etc) I must investigate the cause before I do more pnds.
 
i had this problem with mupen64plus after a crash recently. it died and i couldnt reload it, deleted the appdata and now its fine.


the only other pnd i am having issues with is scummvm and i just cant get that to work at all

Laurens dmesg showed I/O errors on the SD card.


In the case of an app crash, the loopback filesystem in /mnt/pnd stays mounted, so it can't mount it again. Open terminal and type 'df' (or cat /proc/mounts) to see if the filesystems are mounted.
 
I have a possibly-relevant update to bring to the table (I mentioned this over at GP32X as well). Installing the final release of Hotfix 4 seems to have fixed the very-similar-to-this issue that I'd been having with NesEmu (it now works properly, saves and loads states properly, and always works again the next time, be that during the same session or after a shut-down or reboot). I don't quite understand why this would be the case, but it does appear to have done the trick.
 
Possibly some changes to how the pnd_run performs the union mount. Maybe it is more tolerant to whatever was causing it to bail before.
 
You also formatted the hell out of it, and you mentioned you didn't use NesEmu anymore after you formatted it. For me, a couple of formats later and it's not solved, but I'll try the hotfix and report back if it does solve my problem too (formatting it didn't solve my probs). Let's hope it's fixed for me too (even though I have a new SD incoming..)
 
Indeed. Though as I said before, it probably only needed one reformatting. :p Either way, I felt curious for some reason after the new hotfix - hopefully it will also work for you. :)
 
So, it definately was my sd card. I got another one today, and that does not misbehave. So, for the record: I had a Peak (peakhardware.com) 16 gb class 6 SDHC card, and that gave trouble. All the formatting I did, did not fix it.

I could also see a case where if an appo does not clean up properly (keeps some stuff open), then unmounting may refuse to happen, and running it again.. I forget offhand what could happen, but let us say 'the results are undefined.' :) ie: If the app forks off a daemon that is still keeping the mounted stuff open, and then the launching app exits and thus the whole pnd tries to unmount, it would go ugly. (ie: This is why some apps that start daemons request the user to keep the terminal window open (as the trigger to keep the pnd alive), or have amonitor-script that watches the daemons and only exits when no client and no daemons are running, etc.)


Thats not what happened here of course, but I could see some obscure cases occuring :)
