Ah, thanks, that makes more sense.

4 Mbps isn't much.. I'm a little bit surprised. And OMAP3 only 3Mbps? I haven't measured, but I was pretty certain the N900 could do much faster than that. I could be wrong of course. But BT on the N900 can do 3Mbps, and Wi-Fi on the 900 is supposed to be faster.

    Would Usb-Ethernet Work?

Not certain. I know the USB200M works though.

    Would Usb-Ethernet Work?

It's not so strange that Linux users like those. That's the one I have. The main reasons for liking it is: 1: It just works. Plug it in, and it'll be immediately available as an ethernet interface for Linux. I sometimes use this when I install new computers, because whatever ethernet I/F is on...

Bluetooth Works, But I Need Some Help :)

Yeah, it could be a DUN or PAN issue, as winmo seems to prefer PAN these days and Linux-based systems are often DUN-oriented. The Nokia tablets, for example, supported DUN out of the box but PAN had to be hacked in by the users.

Great to have that confirmed. Thanks! I'm all set for the arriving Pandora then. USB Ethernet dongle, Huawei 3G dongle, hub, Beagleboard, laptop for SDK, etc. :D

I expect my USB-Ethernet dongle to work, as it works fine on both x86 and Beagleboard. Driver is in the standard kernel.org kernel. That should keep me going until wi-fi gets good. In the other thread I asked about a mailing list for contributing hackers, I'll ask it here too in case it gets...

    New Blog Post

ED, I'm looking forward to getting the Pandora and start hacking at things that I'm interested in. But to send you patches and following things real-time there'll need to be a mailing list -- a forum isn't good enough for that. Will there be a mailing list? Discussing patches, forwarding...

    "terminal Fear"

It's easy enough to set it up yourself if it doesn't do that already. Well, if the kernel has been compiled with virtual console support at least, because then it's just a matter of setting up getty or mingetty listeners (in e.g. /etc/inittab) on some additional consoles. Someone else said the...

    "terminal Fear"

Just to nitpick a bit, '-' isn't needed for the 'tar' options. I.e. 'tar xvf file.tar' is OK, it isn't necessary to enter 'tar -xvf file.tar'. It's a bit non-standard in that sense, but a keypress saved is a keypress saved.

    Sd Card Search

    >True, but even with re-branded if the company is a trustworthy they'll only buy quality chips. Agreed. The different re-branders still deliver different quality cards. I've good experience with Lexar Professional full-size SDHC cards, for example. They're not the cheapest ones either. I'm not...

    Sd Card Search

Over at Brighthand the consensus seems to be that there are really only 3 SD card manufacturers out there: Toshiba, Sandisk, Panasonic. Everyone else (Transcend, Kingston, A-Data etc.) are only rebranding. That doesn't mean there aren't differences, presumably those manufacturers have different...

    Frying An Arm Chip

Weren't the Xscale processors mentioned in this thread manufactured before RoHS came into play? My understanding is that RoHS soldering (lead-free) is a bit more sensitive to temperature changes and could be worse affected by high temperature - i.e. you should be more careful these days. But...

    Meego On Pandora?

It's a bit divided. But as usual for TMO most people try to take it in stride, and find a way forward. As expected there's some arguments about moving from Debian/DEB-based to Fedora/RPM-based, both on TMO and the developer's mailing list, and here your background kind of shows through. For a...

    Meego On Pandora?

Maemo, or at least maemo.org, is quite independent from Nokia. However, the 'MeeGo' moblin/Maemo merger is purely a Nokia corporate decision, there was no advance warning, not to mention any discussion, over at maemo.org.

    Arm Compiling Howto

There are other reasons for building for Pandora using a separate PC, not just performance. The most important is space. Take my N800, for example. I have built software for it for three years now, and over time I have accumulated a large amount of software and libraries. All these appications I...

    Arm Compiling Howto

Last year I built some test applications for Pandora using a Pandora SDK. It's been a year since I did that so I don't recall where I downloaded it from. But it was a standard cross-compiling environment which I installed on my Linux laptop. Easy enough to use, slightly different from the...

    Ohh Looky Here

I've owned several devices with a thumb hw keyboard, and I've still needed an on-screen keyboard with all of them. There's a reason full-size keyboards exist - one of them is that they have many more keys, and easier access to special characters.

    Is Virtual Memory Possible

Not only is "virtual memory" possible, there is only virtual memory - as far as all our applications are concerned. What the OP is asking is if it's possible to extend VM by adding swap. And yes, it is. And I'm not entirely in agreement with WizardStan in that it'll not be needed. It depends on...
