Hi there, i was just wandering if anyone tried to hook a controller up via the usb or ext port? I understand this would need programming (drivers) but it just seems to be the only right way to do it, since i dont want to add custom ports.. is it even possible?

If it works with chatboards then you could probably make a controller for it. There is also a controller port mod on Mashmods but it just remamps the normal GP32 buttons so there arent any extra buttons. Has anyone gotten that mod yet?

I think the mashmods are to destructive. It should be posible to hook a controller up to the ext port and then detect the signals, i think. But is it also possible to somehow simulate the action that keys on the gp32 make? So that when u press a button on the controller ..the driver Simulates "button A pressed". Thats the thing im really after, otherwise a controller wouldnt work with all games/programmes.

The USB socket cannot be used because it is a slave and therefore does not send out any power. Any external devices would have to have batteries/power supply making it less worth the while.

What about doing it the other way arround?
What about the idea to hook your GP32 to your xbox (it shouldn't be any problem at all to do so, as the pad-connectors are USB) and use it as a controller there? I would love to play, say emulated GBA games on a big screen this way.

The only thing you would have to do is to emulate a pad via software. The signal that goes to the xbox when I press Up should be the same as when i press up on an official pad and so on. this shouldn't be that hard, imo.

This would also make the GP32 more famous as some sort of underground GBA and stuff. Just an idea to make the GP32 more known. :)

I looked into this a bit before. The GP32's EXT port is similar to a PC's serial port. You could probablly adapt a serial port gamepad to work on the GP32. I remember looking at the Gravis Stinger that would probablly work if you ported some of the open-source drivers to the GP32.

GP32 programs would have to build in support for it, though. It's not going to just directly press the GP32's A button when you hit the Stinger's A button.

I wonder if it's possible to modify a SNES controller in the same way as a the chatboards, by soldering a ext plug on the end. It would be cool if this was possible.

WHY NOT USE IT AS A CONTROLLER FOR THE PC!!!!!!!
U know for simple games on the pc that havent been ported yet or something.
Have it simulate keyboard presses. So a "start" on gp32 will become "enter" on the pc. up=up a=ctrl b=alt etc.

Then we can use it to play c-dogs n shit. The usb connection is already there..

Well if i have a gp32 lying around and i can hook it up to the pc it would be kinda cool to use it as a controller. I just thought it would be a nice extra. Im not gonna waste money on buying a real one.I know c-dogs doesnt support it, thats why i thought mayb some driver could be programmed to make it act like a USB keyboard or something...

Well there is source code to C-Dogs so it would be better if someone just added controller support to it.

thats been talked about a ton of times
anyway i don't think that mash mods would be destructive
i have only heard good things about them

Diablo2,
By destructive people mean that the gp32_console is altered in a way that can not be restored to its original state (putting a little socket on the side in this case).
They don't mean that they will damage it.

cant you send in a controller to mashmods and they will modify it to fit the ext. port? The other mod is to actually alter the GP32.

Yup take a look in the order section of their site and you can send in your own stuff.

i might do this with like an n64 controller
actually this seems very easy to do yourself
it would probably work the same way the worklight mod does
